Confederate Angst For Ted Cruz, "Rebel" Support For Jeb Bush

SOUTHERN SOLDIERS FIRING VOLLEYS IN “FIRST IN THE SOUTH” PRIMARY

Of call the candidates running for president of the United States, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas was by far the most friendly to supporters of the Confederate Flag.

Or was he?

Cruz’s response to the flag flap – which reached a furor last spring – was masterful, in our estimation.

First, he showed genuine compassion for the victims of the “Holy City Massacre,” the racially motivated mass murder that precipitated the flag’s removal from the grounds of the S.C. State House.  Then he reinforced his Christian faith by praising the families who forgave the murderer – 21-year-old white supremacist Dylann Storm Roof.

Next he praised the leadership of S.C. governor Nikki Haley and U.S. Senator Tim Scott – both of whom called f0r the flag to come down (Haley for less noble reasons, obviously).

Having covered his bases, Cruz then delivered the money quote to supporters of the controversial banner …

“It’s wrong, for a bunch of people who aren’t from the given state to parachute into South Carolina and dictate what they should do,” he told Fox News’ Bret Baier.

By contrast, former Florida governor Jeb Bush occupied the opposite end of the “heritage” spectrum.  He referred to the flag as a “racist” symbol during a June 2015 visit to West Columbia, S.C.

“If you’re trying to lean forward rather than live in the past, you want to eliminate the barriers that create disagreements,” Bush said during a tour of Nephron Pharmaceuticals, the site of one of Haley’s most infamous crony capitalist failures.

That quote has led to many Confederate flag sympathizers calling Bush a “traitor to Southern Heritage.”

Yet while Cruz was supposed to garner support from flag backers (and Bush was supposed to lose any chance he had at winning their votes), that’s not exactly what has happened.

One War Between the States expert – Leonard M. Scruggs, author of the book The Un-Civil War: Shattering The Historical Myths – has taken a dim view of Cruz’s response.

“If you listen to his elaboration, it is pretty clear he has no genuine sympathy for Southern Heritage,” Scruggs wrote in an email that has been making the rounds among Palmetto State flag supporters. “He is absolutely clueless about why many Southerners, especially conservatives, have strong loyalties to their culture and heritage and thus strong affection and identity with Confederate flags and symbols. He is probably equally clueless about the causes and conduct of the war.”

Scruggs added that Cruz’s two South Carolina co-chairs – ardent flag backers S.C. Senator Lee Bright and State Rep. Bill Chumley – “had better help him with his homework, or he is going to fall far short of his potential in South Carolina and other Southern states.”

Wow …

Meanwhile Bush – who was supposed to reap the whirlwind of Southern scorn – has actually been benefiting from some serious institutional neo-Confederate support.  In fact we’re told he has received the private backing of Richard Hines, the flag’s most notorious (and well-financed) South Carolina neo-Confederate.

“Publicly Hines waffles,” an Upstate flag supporter told us, “but follow the money – he is supporting him under the table.”

The source added that Hines – an influential member of the U.S. military-industrial complex – was loyal to the Bush family because he had profited from its warmongering during the administration of Bush’s brother, former president George W. Bush.

“He makes money off war – and the Bushes want to give him more of it,” the flag supporter said.

Wow …

So … where will the “Heritage vote” in South Carolina ultimately go?

We asked a grassroots backer familiar with the rank-and-file of the movement, who gave us a one word answer – which wasn’t “Cruz” or “Bush.”

“Trump,” they said.

How come?

“Because he hates the Muslims and the Mexicans,” the grassroots backer told us.  “And so do we.”

I don’t consider pointing out other candidate’s positions, IF true, to be dirty politics. Doesn’t make good sense, IMO, but it isn’t dirty.

In general, I agree. But I hate robocalls and push polls, in general, with a passion. The worst are the ones that pretend to be from supporters of Candidate X, but are really on behalf of Candidate Y, saying outrageus stuff to make the person listening to the call think they are really stating candidate X’s positions on issues. That’s what Andre Bauer’s close associate, convicted felon Jay Specter and his little group of dirty tricksters down here in the MB area and Charleston areas specialize in. Cahaly has been known to do such, as well. It is total dirty tricks, and absolutely reprehensible. Predictably, Specter is for Trump. His close associate, lard-ass cab driver perpetual loser candidate Keith VanWinkle is for Cruz. Same-Same. Local assholes supporting national assholes.

I’m glad we have FitsNews to support our racist views. Trump might be a liberal who supports late term abortions, but he pretends to hate brown people, so that good enough for us!

So you are saying that fiscal conservatives who don’t hate brown people and aren’t interested in changing abortion laws from what they are now are ok to support Trump.

‘a grass roots backer’ – unnamed person, unnamed organization, ‘familiar with rank and file’. does that mean he is in it ?

‘Trump they said’: notice they, not he,

‘the grass roots backer’

first, how do we know this conversation took place ? And if so, do we know if the grass roots backer was from a Southern Heritage Organization or their detractors e.g. SPLC, who may claim to be ?

Perhaps an SPLC Jew is quoted based on being a grass roots backer of another candidate, who is familiar with Southern Movement and trying to smear them ?

But it’s true radically changing the demographics by allowing massive Third World Immigration would be opposed by Conservatives. Jews want it because they hate Southerners, Europeans and Teutons.

Can you imagine how those people at his church feel now, knowing that while church going granny forks over her $2000/year out of her $20,000/year retirement money that ole Ted couldn’t even pony up 1% while sitting on millions?

He actually used the excuse that he had to build security for his kids…while sitting on millions.

Ol’ granny is eating macaroni & cheese out of the box so she can give her 10% to God and millionaire Ted “walking the Christian faith” is worried about his kids while dining on steak….yeah.

I’ve always thought that Trump would overtly court the pro-Confederate Flag voter in South Carolina. He will definitely have a corner on the bigot vote in SC.

And since Dems know their Feb. 27th Primary is locked down for Clinton with their base, the rest of them will choose to participate in the GOP Primary a week earlier, to boost Trump’s totals to in their minds, provide Trump with a larger margin of victory. Hopefully Trump will be emasculated between now and then, but we can count on Dems monkeying around in his favor on February 20th.

The slime continues to spread. Will Folks quoted in Vice News…

“Everybody is going to Will Folks, a former spokesman for then-South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford and political blogger, expects most of the mud slinging to come from Jeb Bush’s camp and his Super PAC, Right to Rise. “If we do see any shenanigans down here, look for the fingerprints of the Bush family,” says Folks. “cause they’re the ones who gave this state the reputation in the first place,” he said.

Folks was referring to the brutal anti-McCain attacks during the 2000 primary which many attributed to Bush family operatives working on behalf of George W. Bush’s campaign. Folks is no stranger to dirty politics himself, having claimed that he had an affair with Gov. Nikki Haley during her gubernatorial campaign, an allegation Haley has repeatedly denied.

Right to Rise has raised and spent by far the most money of any outside group in this election — “they’re richer than God,” Folks says.

Aren’t I clever for trying to paint Cruz and Jeb as wafflers when of course we KNOW Jeb IS a flaming RINO

And you know I’ve proved myself to be a South Carolinian of Scott’s and Haley’s low ilk with nowhere to go

So when the REAL SC supporters of patriots’ flag get though nominating the next President…Trump

I’ll meet you all where no doubt RINOs and Dims will end up figuratively and literally—down at the dump !!!

Vulgarity is a poor substitute for wit and understanding. I would encourage you to look at CNN polls: “The poll shows that 57% of Americans see the flag more as a symbol of Southern pride than as a symbol of racism”. Allow me to also refer you to Gallup. http://www.gallup.com/poll/2926/americans-divided-southern-states-flying-confederate-flag.aspx. I also fear that the goat idea originated with you, as I have yet to find documentation of such behavior in the South.

Bush isn’t a “traitor” to southern heritage. Much as W and Jeb like to minimize it, they are from an old New England family. Their historical connection to the Confederacy was surely adversarial.

Kathleen Hines February 16, 2016 at 4:54 pm

Wow. This is absolutely erroneous. I don’t know who wrote this, but the information about Richard Hines is absolutely false. Mr. Hines published the following letter in a newspaper.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR FEBRUARY 14TH, 2016

The proverb “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” still applies. Nikki Haley, SC’s Sikh-Hindu governor, opened a Pandora’s Box of cultural genocide last June against all things Southern. Since her Columbia appearance with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, building, street, and highway names have changed, accompanied by flag bans, monument removals, and efforts to remove Southern names from military bases and high schools.

Now most of the remaining Republican presidential candidates are soliciting Haley’s endorsement to thwart the “ogre” Donald Trump. Last week, Ted Cruz issued a press report appealing for her support. Mr. Cruz is a savvy, Harvard-educated lawyer. Pandering to Nikki Haley, he has obviously decided to throw SC’s heritage voters under the bus, hoping they will be too dull to see through his ploy.

We are not a confederacy of dunces. We recognize a vote for Cruz is a vote for Haley. A vote for Trump is a vote against Haley, Graham, and the Republican establishment.

Haley and the RNC, aliens to our history and traditions, have dishonored, desecrated, and discarded the memories of our noble ancestors as rubbish by the roadside. The faint of heart, Eliot’s “hollow men,” who have only a weak-kneed nostalgic attachment to our heritage can vote for Cruz, Bush, or Rubio, and make excuses for Haley et.al. But this is the time for intelligent Southerners to stand up and shout “Enough!” to the Republicans. In no uncertain terms, this means a vote for Trump.

I don’t think this iterates support for Bush. . . . This said, I find this article a brash representation of half-truths. The quote about Richard Hines and the final quote are gross misrepresentations of traditional conservatives. Perhaps this is why the author has not published his own name publicly and doesn’t cite any information supporting his Hines-Bush claim?
