I guess women are too dainty to be drafted, they need to stay in the kitchen, birthing table, or the appropriate binder and do what they are told in the eyes of Cruz. He is a typical Republican all right.
Cruz like many Republicans can’t imagine their own kids being sent off to fight their wars and he doesn’t want anything to get in the way of him serving the wishes of the warmongering oligarchs.
Why is Cruz criticizing Israel so harshly?

I work in law enforcement, and I can tell you first hand that what actually happens is women get in and start wanting special treatment. We just dealt last week with a female officer who wouldn’t respond to a domestic violence call with out a man with her, a call that given the circumstances any of the rest of us would have had to respond to alone. If you’re talking about a completely equal treatment situation, then yes. Go for it. But, you only breed resentment in the ranks if you start carving out special considerations for women.
Plus, forcing women who are not police or militarily-oriented in mindset against their better judgment and will into this will add even more problems. It’s one thing when you have to go on a bad call with a woman who doesn’t mind the fight or the danger and can hold her own. Quite another, if it was a timid girl and she was forced to be there and rightfully was terrified.
I’ve seen male and female cops who just were not cut out for the job, even though participation is voluntary. Most though, because they chose that line of work, were A-1.
Don’t forget, with women on the force it makes it harder for you to rape. I know you’d hate to lose that ability.

By now the BS about fighting unnecessarily lengthy wars in other parts of the world, for the benefit of big corporations and other wealthy fat cats’ monetary interests, should be apparent to anyone who bothers to open their eyes. The shame of this practice is made worse when you realize that good men’s and women’s lives are destroyed and shattered because it is profitable to someone’s interests up the food chain to unnecessarily prolong and extend these wars, never intending to let the brave men and women fighting them to decisively win.

That is one way of looking at it and I respect your position on it! That said, we have so many Lindsey Grahams and John McCains who honestly don’t care, I am hesitant to endorse adding women to this involuntary travesty.
You make a good point. Draft powers won’t go away, and we can’t count on guys like those to use them responsibly. I could only hope if women were drafted to war that people like Lindsey and McCain would be thrown out of DC but that’s probably wishful thinking too.

I was in the Army when the draft was still in effect (1971-1974) I was a volunteer but anybody who was at Ft. Jackson in 1971 (or any US Army Basic Training Facility back then for that matter..) can attest to the following roster headcount EVERY time as you passed through the “chow hall” line:
“#1 RA, #2 NG, #3 AR, #4 US” and so on down the line in no particular order for headcount purposes
RA = “Regular Army” = a volunteer (like myself)
NG = “National Guard” = someone who had joined the National Guard (back then mostly to keep from being drafted and sent to Vietnam)
AR = someone who had joined the Army Reserve (See “NG above for the most part”)
US = a draftee
I did my entire time in the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg. I served alongside draftees who had volunteered for jump school. I can attest that I would want those guys having my back every damn time even today. When the shit hit the fan during the Yom Kippur War alert no one shirked their duty and the entire Division was fully mobilized in less than 14 hours (a record which still stands even today even if about 20% were “stoners”). I’d be willing to bet that if you asked any one of those guys today (who’d be at least 61 years old), serving for 2-3 years was one of the best things that happened to them and set them up for life later on.

No doubt that there are plenty of tough women – it’s a matter of economy of scale. My battle buddy in Sapper school was a female who readily handed my ass to me in combatives – she was a “multiple forms” black belt and 15 years younger than me.
Think about this for a minute. We offer two different types of every uniform except the PT uniform for males and females – that costs more than it would if there was one type. A female’s basic training initial issue costs almost $100 more than a males and they’re given 4 times the males allowance to fill out their uniform requirements. That doesn’t sound like much until you multiple it time the 100,000+ new soldiers we add each year – the $100 difference becomes 20,000 (new female soldiers) x $100 or $2,000,000 just for bras, panties and high heel shoes… The allowance is that same 20,000 x $270 (360-the $90 males get) or $5.4 million. Net cost is about $7.4 million just to have females in uniform.
This doesn’t even come close to addressing the cost of body armor, facilities, health care extras and “accommodations” that Molly costs over Joe. Joe doesn’t get pregnant, has greater upper body strength and is generally more adaptable to a combat environment.
Armies exist to break things and kill people, not create equal opportunity experiments.

Any immigrant citizen applicants under Trump will be subjected to STRICT vetting, some of which are enumerated on Trump’s website, and others that he’s mentioned during interviews. There will be NO mooches (must be completely self-sufficient), NO law breakers, and NO persons that had to be physically deported.
Not to mention, Trump’s immigration paper calls for a “pause” in immigration (moratorium) to allow CITIZENS to take the jobs once occupied by illegals that will be exiting the country (ousted by either by force, or by self deportation)…construction, food services, manufacturing, etc.
Also of note, the work/trade school/community service requirement Trump will place on able bodied citizen welfare recipients will have our OWN welfare cheats/mooches scrambling for jobs vacated by illegals, or their welfare spigot will be SHUT OFF. This will immensely lower our outlay for welfare, and keep the money in America’s economy where it belongs.

Jan, just over 1% of the population of the United States volunteers to serve, Cruz is not unusual or different in that respect – in fact none of the candidates still in the race on either side have served. (Only Graham, Perry, Gilmore and Webb, all of whom have dropped out, have served) Of the total population of the US, there are something like 19,000,000 veterans from all wars still living. That accounts for about 6% of the US total population, vastly disproportionately male are veterans.
So if your point is the Republicans are running a bunch of weenie chicken hawks for the office of President; I agree.

The common definition of a “chickenhawk” is someone who talks tough about kicking some nation or group’s ass but never served a day in the military which is something you won’t find Bernie Sanders espousing.
But none of them are running for office so who cares. We haven’t had a draft in forty years and there are far fewer veterans than you’d think. Jefferson never served and he ended the paying of tribute to the Libyan pirates (our first real dealings with Islamic terrorists). While not a fan, FDR never served and he win a world war.Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon did serve and we know how Vietnam turned out…

Don’t forget that the Cuban Revolution happened during the Eisenhour(sp) administration and that Castro actually made overtures to the United States early on after he gained control but when we rejected his overtures (again under Eisenhour{sp}). Castro turned to Russia who gladly took him under their wing.
That being said, I personally think that the American way of life reached its apex under Eisenhour(sp) and the short-lived Kennedy Administrations.
My earliest political memories were of Eisenhour(sp) having a heart attack and I was 9 when Kennedy went on TV for the Cuban Missile Crisis (I remember it vividly) because we had been doing the “duck & cover’ drills at school for a few years prior to the crisis.
I remember thinking the 9 year old equivalent of “Oh shit,this is it”. Since we lived in coal mine country, I figured we’d just hole up in a mine somewhere till the thing “blew over” so to speak…..
Eisenhower (Ei sin how er) just like it sounds. My point is Kennedy had a chance to overthrow Cuba and punted even after landing soldiers, all be it Cubans. The net result is that we were stuck with the Cuban problem for 60 years.

I don’t think so. The United States has a pretty lousy record of “nation building” and if we had “conquered” Cuba (they are a proud people) we’d had a western hemisphere version of Vietnam on our hands.
