As long as the legislature is involved in the selection of Judges to the SC Supreme Court this “wheeling and dealing” will occur. In the process they will trade, using our tax money, the form of projects, promotions, appointments, and special privilege.
These piss ants in the legislature should be relieved of this responsibility and judges should be elected by the citizens.
Or executive appointment …
Yeah, if done right, it would be much better than the present procedure.
You hypocritical piece of shit! Is that MORE governmental involvement which you constantly rail against as a libertard? Why would you want judges beholden to the politician who appointed them? That’s worse than the current situation. Wouldn’t the election of judges by citizens be more in line with your alleged libertard thinking?
Of course not. Your paychecks would if the politicians were taken out of the picture, you sell out jackass.
Agreed.
The worst clusterfucks are always those that are rife with

Believe me when I say that no one on this forum has more experience with this process than do I. It is far from perfect, but it’s a damned sight better than popular election. There is no ideal method of populating the judiciary. I believe that the best method is where nominating committees (how to constitute those can be tricky in itself) put forward a limited number of names (three is a good number) from which the Governor selects one. Involving the Senate in a confirmation process I can take or leave, as I wouldn’t expect it to have any real impact.
The People of South Carolina are non-existent in the minds of its elected representatives.
