… WHICH IS BETTER THAN TICKING DOWN

The Palmetto State’s lagging labor participation rate ticked up modestly in December to 59.2 percent – up from 59 percent the previous month.  The metric is up 0.7 percent from December of 2014.

That’s the good news …

The bad news?  The Palmetto State’s labor participation rate – which measures the percentage of the state’s working-age population that is currently a part of the labor force – still ranks eighth-lowest in the nation.  Which is only slightly better than our state’s ranking when it comes to income levels.

Still, up is better than down … even if our workers are still earning far less than their counterparts.

Under governor Nikki Haley, labor participation peaked at 60.9 percent in June 2011.  It hasn’t been at or above 60 percent since October of that year.

Nationally, the labor participation rate clocked in at 62.6 percent in December – just up from its forty-year low-water mark of 62.4 percent.  When U.S. president Barack Obama took office, the rate was 65.8 percent.  When former president George W. Bush took office, it was 67.2 percent.

Increasing retirees from the Baby Boomers already here, plus the fact we get Retirees from other states probably explains 90% of the drop since 2011. Don’t let facts get in the way though.

Good mention about incoming retirees from other states, that is something we share with Florida and should definitely be part of the discussion!

Add to that, retirees are living longer. 85+ are the fastest growing segment of the population.

Isn’t Walmart raising wages for most of it’s employees? That should help.

If she is right I will feel like a fool. Trying to maintain that much retail space in a low sales volume scenario is incredibly hard. Then dealing with the theft from rural welfare queens and Meth heads just sinks the ship. That would be awesome if the booms she was hearing was a subterranean Super Max being built instead of a meth lab.

And according to the Spartanburg H/J they welched on a $1000 donation to the Pacolet FD.
Walmart’s reply was ‘we will honor our donation…the check is in the mail” AFTER the Spartanburg H/J checked on it
You know…that dinosaur of the media…a fucking newspaper????

I compare 2015 to previous years back to 1976. SC has set new records in job creation.
When I am off work, (This evening) I will comment on how SC compares to other states in PART II.

I can see now how my public school education is failing me. I would have made the mistake of starting that first sentence “Fits and I.”
