A.K.A. “MAJOR TOM …”
We’ve been watching the German-language thriller “Deutschland 83” lately – and loving every minute of it. Set in divided Germany during the hottest period of the Cold War, the show’s opening credits are accompanied by Peter Schilling‘s 1983 hit “Major Tom (Coming Home).”
The English-language version, oddly …
Frankly, we prefer the German version – “Völlig Losgelöst” (a.k.a. “completely disconnected”).

Schilling’s hit was an unofficial extension of David Bowie’s 1969 song, Space Oddity – a musical drama which received further treatment courtesy of The Smashing Pumpkins 1993 song, Spaceboy.
Anyway, if you haven’t checked out “Deutschland 83,” do yourself a favor … it’s one of the better spy sagas (from any era) we’ve seen.
