COLUMNIST CLAIMS CONSERVATIVES ARE “HOLDING EVERYTHING RANSOM”

A liberal columnist with The (Charleston, S.C.) Post and Courier is passionately defending S.C. governor Nikki Haley from conservative criticism following the latter’s middling response to U.S. president Barack Obama‘s final State of the Union address earlier this week.

Missed the fallout from Haley’s comments?

It’s been intense … and not especially well-managed by the 43-year-old vice presidential hopeful.

According to the governor’s media cheerleaders, though … the blame lies with her detractors.  Exclusively.

“While the party descends farther into madness and anger, and populist demagogues continue to reign, it’s pretty clear the GOP desperately wants to get that crazy train off the track,” Post and Courier columnist Brian Hicks wrote this week.

“The far right is going nuts – admittedly not a far trip – as they do about everything that just doesn’t go to suit them,” Hicks added.

Haley?  She’s the “voice of moderation, of common sense.”

She was chosen by “Republican” leaders, Hicks wrote, “specifically to counterbalance that sort of lunacy.”

“They have pretty much adopted flat-out racism as a policy, embracing Donald Trump’s pandering plans to close the borders to all Muslims,” Hicks added.  “For that reason, you have to admire Haley for standing up to them.”

Curiously, Hicks admits Haley’s remarks don’t represent a “course correction” for the one-time Tea Party diva.

“A lot of people think she never was all that far right; she’s basically a Chamber of Commerce Republican,” he said.  “That doesn’t mean she’s not a conservative, it just means she is not without compassion.”

Well yeah … assuming you are a Chinese billionaire looking for tens of millions of tax dollars from people who absolutely cannot afford it.

Still, according to Hicks, Haley’s opponents are the ones to blame for everything that’s wrong with the government.

“The loudest faction of the base is often immature and selfish, stomping around like bratty kids when they don’t get their way,” he wrote.  “They don’t like reason – they get it all their way or they hold everything ransom.”

Really … hold everything ransom?  Like the crony capitalists did after the U.S. Congress temporarily suspended authorization of the Export-Import Bank slush fund?

Remember that?  We do …

Also beg our pardon but … how on earth can the “base” hold anything ransom?  Last time we checked, the purse strings in both Washington, D.C. and in Columbia, S.C. were controlled by majorities comprised of Democrats and liberal “Republicans.”

What exactly can fiscal conservatives hold ransom?

Good question … maybe Hicks will tell us in his next column.

Seriously … with the notable exception of S.C. Senator Tom Davis‘ impassioned filibuster of a totally unnecessary gas tax hike, the fiscal liberals win every time.  And speaking of, the last time we checked Haley has approved virtually every penny of big government that’s come across her desk … including many Obama agenda items.

In fact, where has she “not gotten her way?”  Well … except in the passage of a so-called “ethics” bill that would have actually facilitated more corruption in South Carolina government (which is already notoriously corrupt – thanks in no small part to Haley herself)?

Again, good question … maybe Hicks will tell us in his next column.

You should read the national news reports on Haley. They like her and so do voters outside of SC. Her slapping down the flag, alone, will get her far nationally. Most American voters love seeing bigots get there asses handed to them and she did that in the heart of bigot country. She know how to play the game, for sure.

The Withrop poll, after the removing of the flag, showed Haley had support of 81% of South Carolina Republicans.

You said the same thing several days ago and cited the same poll. At that time it was brought to your attention that the poll consisted of register republican voters outside of South Carolina. Predictably, you didn’t respond as your attempted deception was exposed. So now, you repost the same shit only this time you added “South Carolina Republicans” to avoid getting slapped again for your intellectual dishonesty.
It didn’t work, moron.

The bible does tell us not to lie, but it is not in the Ten Commandments.
Leviticus 9:11 — ‘You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.

The ninth commandment:

I guess this loser newspaper has completely forgotten how Tricky Nicky Haley took a direct bribe from the Georgia Ports Authority to screw Charleston Ports out of millions of dollars in trade, SC Citizens in Taxes and Charleston Voters out of Jobs.

Other parts of the state use the port of Savannah including a tire plant and there was no direct bribe. No one at the SCSPA objected to what she did.

Some people wanted to use DHEC for Charleston’s advantage for reasons that had nothing to do with protection of health or environment. That’s cronyism.

The Corps of Engineers would have overruled Haley if she tried to stop the deepening of Savannah harbor anyway.

I’ve gotten used to Fitsnews amateur style of writing. Nine question marks is more than enough. Brian Hicks opinion piece for the only had three, but that is the only compliment I can make.

Haley makes a polite speech suggesting that we tone down the rhetoric, but according to Fitnews, and some “media” conservatives, she compared Trump to Dylann Roof. Hyperbole, right??? (That’s my quota for questionmarks.)

Brian Hicks replies with more name calling of them. His message is not likely to be received very well when you call people “NUTS, RACIST, IMMATURE, BRATTY.”

Let’s be clear. Nikki Haley doesn’t welcome Brian Hicks praise. It’s the kind of high pitched rhetoric she opposes.

Corncobs – yep! On my Granddad’s farm in Alabama (my Mom’s birthplace) the outhouse was always reliable. Even though there was no inside water or electricity there were plenty of catalogues. My Dad always joked about the days when the Sears catalog arrived in the mail — he would grab it and head for the bathroom (I don’t think that my Mom thought it was funny).

partial samples of outhouse poems —

ELVIS IS IN OUR OUTHOUSE

Big’un likes playin’ the banjo in the outhouse
He thinks that he’s Elvis out there
Granny plays her flattop on the front porch
Where she can git lots of fresh air

Sometimes I fiddle in front of the fire
While Shooter plays a tune on the jug
Eunice will git a rhythm goin’ on the bones
Rockin’ in her chair on the rug
———-
GRANNY AND THE HAUNTED OUTHOUSE

A woodpecker started peckin’ on the outhouse door
While Granny was settin’ out there.
She kept yelling, “Wait just a minute!
Wait just a minute and I’ll be out of h’yar!”

But that bird kept peckin’ and Granny kept yellin’.
The boys were just rolling on the ground

erneba January 17, 2016 at 1:53 am

You have jolted my memory. I remember, as a kid, the neighbors about one half mile down the street had a two-holer outhouse. My parents always donated the catalogs to them that were mailed to us after they finished ordering what we needed. I guess that is a part of Americana that is gone, thank goodness. The first public school I attended had out outhouses.
A two-holer, who would ever want to go with someone else?

euwe max January 17, 2016 at 6:33 am

Two holes means twice as long before having to move the outhouse and cover the pit.

shifty henry January 17, 2016 at 9:46 am

“We need a bigger hole!”

shifty henry January 17, 2016 at 9:49 am

There was a rootin’-tootin’ cowboy who sashayed to the outhouse in back of the saloon. He heard a noise coming from inside, so he look down the hole. Sure as shootin’, there was an old Indian looking back up. The cowboy offered him
a hand and said, “Poor fellah. How long
have you been stuck down there in that awful hole?”

The Indian answered sadly, “Many moons.”

shifty henry January 17, 2016 at 9:06 am

It’s interesting at this moment to remember how many things have developed and changed in our lifetimes.

My Mom was the youngest of 10 kids and Granddad had built the new outhouse (yes, a 2-holer) in the interim before I was born. So when we would visit from Chattanooga and the time came when I was just able to walk and “do my business” on my own I couldn’t get up on the “shelf”.
Granddad said wait and he came back with a hatchet and chopped a slit in the floor in the corner.

It was a big moment when I could finally climb up on the shelf even though my butt was still too small for the hole so I had to hold myself on the self with both hands to keep from falling in. My Granddad then added comic books to the big stack between the holes.

Sort of strange as I write this how one’s memories can be unlocked. All this was just normal life as I was growing up.

I think the fact that Nikki Haley was chosen to give SOTU response or address as she terms it was all a set up. It was all set up so that Nikki Haley would indeed call out Donald Trump for his “tone” and Nikki Haley would get out of this world attention. Then Trump and Haley would kiss and make up and Haley would agree to be Donald Trump’s running mate or his VP candidate. Haley is not near as gullible as everybody thinks when it comes to getting her way.

Nikki isn’t dumb. The other possibility is she knows Trump may win the nomination but he is an anomaly. If he won the Presidency, he is only around 4 or 8 years. The establishment Republicans are not going away and casting her lot with them leads to a longer career. Whether that is a senate run, lobbying position or some other sweetheart position. Which would be more of a sure deal than Trump. Saw Demint praising her the other night on TV and look where he is now. Making a million up in DC.

Nikki Haley is certainly smarter than Native Ink. She knows what accusations are true or false and the false accusations make her a more compelling candidate.

What makes Haley so successful against her enemies is that they don’t care whether the accusations they make are true or false or that the voters don’t expect their leaders to be perfect in the “everything can be said on the internet” and anything goes campaign finance rules. There is not anything of significance that is known now that was not known before her 2014 reelection and if anything the narional media is more solicitous than the state media.

By the way, if Haley is VP nominee, she doesn’t have to win to rise to the top of Republican party leadership. Paul Ryan is Speaker of the House and he lost.

“…and if anything the narional media is more solicitous than the state media.”
That’s because, if you read and pay attention to the national MSM political press, you know that they have a couple of unicorns and they are a ‘bipartisan’ Republican and a conservative Democrat.
That’s why they loved John McCain when he was a maverick, and Lindsey Graham and Bob Corker, too. Democrat Joe Manchin, too.
They loved Chris Christie for a few years. But, they don’t seem to understand governors too well and are not good at evaluating their successes and failures.

High level republicans are hypocrites. I know because I was one but now am thankfully retired. God, I am glad I am out of that state government pitt.

“The loudest faction of the base is often immature and selfish, stomping around like bratty kids when they don’t get their way,” he wrote. “They don’t like reason – they get it all their way or they hold everything ransom.”
So the conservatives are like the feminazis who carry mattresses around campus for their false “rape” claims, or the BLM protestors who rally in the middle of the streets because that’s a sure fire way to gain respect and equality? Or they are like the occupy wallstreet safe space crybaby’s who are upset that they can’t get a six figure job with their liberal arts gender studies degree? Please enlighten me on how conservatives are anything like those three groups who cry, scream and demand respect but don’t do anything respectful to deserve our undivided attention?
