“BEAT DAT CREMMSATIDE!”

For those of you unhip to the local parlance, the above headline and kicker (a.k.a. “subheadline”) make reference to the fact that the No. 1 ranked Clemson University football team has departed for Glendale, Arizona – where the undefeated Tigers will participate in Monday night’s national championship game against the No. 2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.

It’s safe to say “Clemson fever” has captured the state of South Carolina.  We wrote yesterday about the big tiger paw that mysteriously appeared on the lawn of a federal courthouse, and now behold: Fans of the top-ranked Tigers gathered today on a bridge over Interstate 85 to cheer on their team …

Nice.

Even nicer?  Clemson’s proposed football facility.  Not so nice? Um … Interstate 85.

Oh well …

As much as we’d love to play spoilsports by offering additional faux redneck headlines and lamentations over the mis-prioritization of state resources, there can be no denying a tremendous amount of credit is due to Clemson’s players, coaches and athletic administration.

Whatever we think of the rules of the game, Clemson is one win away from achieving something truly remarkable … something all of us should be proud of.

Good luck, tiggers … err, taters … err, Tigers.

Got a question for you…If Alabama is the Crimson Tide how the hell did they come up with an elephant as the mascot?

Reply
TontoBubbaGoldstein January 8, 2016 at 7:53 pm

TBG thinks the double mascot must be an Alabama thing.

Auburn Tigers/War Eagles….

Call TBG “Deacon Blues”…

Ok.

Go Tigers beat the wet Elephants.

I have to admit, I will be watching the game and rooting for the Tigers.
If the Gamecocks were in the same situation, I would also root for them.
I did not go to either school, so there is no duplicity in my statements

If Clemson wins, I’ll be happy for the state. If they lose, I’ll be happy as a Gamecock. If they get crushed … well, that would be just awesome. Here’s the thing, though: Clemson is damn good. They have the potential to lay a beat down on Bama, much as I hate to say it.

erneba January 8, 2016 at 1:58 pm

Many people are under-estimating Clemson. I think it will be a good game, competitive, probably won by a touchdown or less by either team.

Alabama is WAY over hyped.Clemson should be favored.

favored as they were in Columbia and can only pull off a 5 point victory vs the 225 ranked team in the nation. That same University Of Clemson Team?

I am a Gamecock fan first. I enjoy pulling for Clemson – the team – the state – the University. Hell my son is a student there and I would love to see him enjoy a National Championship while he is a student.

My fat, orange – drenched, hillbilly neighbor: I would like to see him cry like a little boy.

Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly emerged from a jumbo jet to a smattering of applause and wasted little time heaping praise on the Irish’s next opponent.

“We think we’re playing the best team in the country,” Kelly said. “No disrespect to any teams in the final four.

Kelley was right about THE Ohio State University-and the Buckeyes proved it Jan 1,2016.

lulz…Ohio sucks. Ohio State sucks.

If they were so great as you say, they’d be undefeated and playing for the NC. They’re not.

Squishy123 January 8, 2016 at 7:13 pm

Well as a state they do have Cleveland, Cincinnati and Toledo. So they have that going for them.

It just goes to show how far to the fringe of respectable society you have sunken to when no one in the six hours since your article was published even bothers to call you out for your racist use of the “tiggers” term or African American vernacular. You’re like the crazy uncle that we just learn to tolerate, but never take out in public.

I wonder what black Gamecock players and former players think about your use of that term, like Clowney, Jeffery and Lattimore.

Have you lost your mind?’fringe of respectable society’ is Nikki Haley who fucked fits and now thinks it Will go away.

Reply
Bible Thumper January 8, 2016 at 8:50 pm

It’s not unusual for people like you who are on the fringe to think that they are in the center. Haley is giving the Republican response to the “State of the Union” address.

Jethroe Bodine Verdad January 8, 2016 at 9:06 pm

Yes she is.I am not surprised that the Republican ESTABLISHMENT selected someone as immoral, disgraced, liberal and as much as a liar as Obama to reinforce his address.

Nikki is a nothing more than a lying whore who has used her minority status, selective social policy agenda to appease the bible thumpers that fell for the shit in SC and as an encore taking down the confederate flag for the Republican ESTABLISHMENT for Farrakahn,Sharpton and Jackson.

She finds stooges like you to push her whorish political agenda. I got news for ya-NO CHANCE.

Bible Thumper January 8, 2016 at 9:55 pm

Haley is a rising star. Ahead of schedule. When you have progressed to your thirtieth or fortieth disqus account, she’ll be President.

KoRan DemaThumper January 8, 2016 at 9:58 pm

LMAO!!! President of Planned Parenthood or the NAACP?

Bible Thumper January 8, 2016 at 10:00 pm

Haha. Will that be closer to your thirtieth or fortieth disqus account?

I don’t think Haley has any chance nationally, becuase she is proving to be a lightweight. But there are a lot of quota-worshippers who would jump on the bandwagon because she is a woman, and only one generation removed from being native as an American…

She is appealling to the pop culture robots who are a little more open-minded than the FITS-Numb types…

Tazmaniac January 8, 2016 at 2:55 pm

Know what you mean. As a Gator man, I’m kind of pro-SEC, and yet to see a team from my adopted state win is nice also. If Bama’s defense steps up again like they did with MSU, the Tigers will have their hands full. Clemson can’t let them own the clock either, and that is Bama’s specialty. It is going to be razzle dazzle against long, steady, boring drives. It is going to be a great night of college football that is for sure.

Reply
erneba January 8, 2016 at 3:01 pm

If Alabama can get Derrick Henry “up and running,’ and play ball control, it could be difficult, but not impossible for Clemson.
I also favor and follow the SEC in football, best and most competitive college football conference in the nation.

Henry reminds me of Herschal Walker. If he leans forward with the ball he gets 6-7 yards. If Shaq ain’t back there’s going to be trouble.

Herschel never scored on Clemson…hopefully we can say the same about Henry on Tuesday.
