LIBERAL LAWMAKER’S PASSING TRIGGERS SPECIAL ELECTION
S.C. Senator Billy O’Dell has died of a massive heart attack, sources tell FITS.
O’Dell died in his sleep, we’re told. He was 77 years old.
The fiscally liberal lawmaker was a Democrat until 2003 – when he switched parties and became a “Republican.” He had previously said he would not switch parties – but reportedly changed his mind at the urging of another former Democrat, powerful S.C. Senator Hugh Leatherman.
Democrats were incensed. They demanded O’Dell resign his office (he didn’t) and pay back nearly a quarter of a million dollars spent on his behalf in the 2000 election (again, he didn’t).
First elected to the Senate in 1988, O’Dell was a consistent vote for bigger government and higher fees and taxes – no matter which party he swore allegiance to. And yes, we understand it’s impolite to speak ill of the dead … but what was it Maximus said in the movie Gladiator?

Indeed.
Nonetheless, O’Dell was widely respected by his colleagues and by State House insiders. And whatever our ideological differences with him may have been, there’s no denying he had a reputation as one of the few genuinely decent people in the S.C. General Assembly.”
“He was a kind person,” one told us. “Kind and forthright. There are some really bad people up there – the kind ones are rare.”
One of O’Dell’s constituents agreed, saying she didn’t like his voting record but “he was always nice to me.”
“Anything I need he would help me with it – or do it himself,” she said.
A native of Greenwood, S.C., O’Dell represented Senate District 4 – which includes parts of Abbeville, Anderson and Greenwood Counties. He was set to file for reelection in March 2016 – seeking what would have been his eighth term in office.
Pending notification by the S.C. Senate, the S.C. Election Commission (SCEC) will set a special election based on the office becoming vacant. That would mean office-seekers could file as soon as January 22 for a March 22 partisan primary race. Runoff elections (if necessary) would be held on April 5 with a general election on May 17.
Ordinarily, the special election would be held on May 10 but state offices will be closed on that date as South Carolina celebrates Confederate Memorial Day.

So there’s going to be a special election held on May 10th (and primaries before that) to fill a seat until the regularly-scheduled November election–so basically to have the seat filled for one month of a legislative session? What a waste of resources.

He did get into a falderall with the Democrat party – at whom he thumbed his nose.
He was a very liberal Republican based on his voting record and legislative work.
There will be a special election to replace him.

Which makes these events allthemore a cause for celebration when they occur. Because the majority of the electorate is terminally stupid, this is one of the few occasions when these crooks leave office. Sadly, they will select and elect another one and he or she will likely occupy that seat until he or she is removed for legal issues, they decide to leave, or this happens.
People are too stupid to watch, pay attention, and vote them out when they learn the ways and profits of corruption, which is usually 2-4 years or less in office. Thankfully, mother nature occasionally intervenes in our behalf.
For all you fucks in the Statehouse, let this serve as a nice reminder of what awaits you after you die. Most of you will be cursed under the breath of decent people who have been enlightened to what most of you are.
You may have won yourself riches on the backs of the productive, but your legacy will be worse than that of a dead homeless person, as at least when they depart their family will bear no shame for their actions.
Who gives a shit about legacy? As long as there’s a building, street, or bridge named after them they couldn’t care less about what people think. The point of getting into politics is to enrich yourself, and most pols are successful at doing just that. When they croak they go to heaven where all is forgiven so they don’t have to feel bad for what they’ve done.

Here’s a great example of how politicians line their pockets. I refer you to Abbeville County Parcel # 003-00-00-099. This was a modern Milliken plant, until things began to unraveled for that company, and they decided to dump it off to the County of Abbeville. It was on the books for over $ 4,300,000 for the real estate alone (not counting equipment). Milliken got a great tax writeoff by donating it to the county, who didn’t hold onto it very long. What happened next is the interesting part. Without any marketing or other effort, in April 2012, the County of Abbeville “sold” it to Billy O’Dell for $ 55,000. See Deed Book 293, page 179. I see now it’s on the books now for $ 548,170. No questions asked.
