SOUTH CAROLINA DOWNS ARCH-RIVAL CLEMSON IN G-VEGAS …
Who was president the last time the University of South Carolina men’s basketball team got off to a 10-0 start?
If you guessed FDR, pat yourself on the back …
Franklin Delano Roosevelt was in the Oval Office during the 1933-34 season, which saw the Gamecocks race out to a 17-0 start (including a win over-arch rival Clemson).
This year’s squad dispatched Clemson 65-59 on a cool night in Greenville, S.C. – the Tigers’ temporary home court while their on-campus arena, Littlejohn Coliseum, undergoes a renovation.
Riding a 24-1 first-half run, head coach Frank Martin‘s team held on down the stretch thanks to some clutch baskets from true freshman PJ Dozier, who scored in double figures for the third straight game for the resurgent Gamecocks (10-0, 0-0 SEC).
Dozier also had a key rebound late in the game and hit a pair of free throws to preserve the win – which upped South Carolina’s all-time advantage in the in-state rivalry to 90-76.
Leading by twenty points during the first half, South Carolina saw Clemson (7-4, 0-0 ACC) climb back into the contest in the second half thanks to a smothering zone defense. The Tigers cut the margin to four on several occasions – but couldn’t close the deal.
“It was a game of runs, but obviously their run of six or seven minutes in the first half when we played poorly was the difference in the game,” Clemson head coach Brad Brownell said. “Our guys fought back, we did a lot of good things in the second half that gave us a chance to win, and cut it to four with four minutes to play and had plenty of opportunities. We consistently got stops and had a chance, but nobody could make the big play at the end to win a game like this.”
Martin was disappointed his team blew the big early lead, but pleased with the late defensive stand that iced the win.
“To go on the road and play a real good basketball team that’s extremely disciplined and experienced, and to feel the lead and then see it kind of fall apart and then figure out a way to hold on for dear life and depend on our defense and some free throws, that says something,” Martin said.
Of course the fourth-year head coach said his squad had issue to correct moving forward if it wanted to keep its streak alive – and position itself for its first NCAA tournament appearance in twelve years.
“Defensive rebounding continues to be a problem for us now,” Martin said. “We’ve got to clean that up. We’ll end up getting beat because of that.”
South Carolina plays St. John’s on Tuesday in Uncasville, Connecticut at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Shootout. Tipoff is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EST and the game will be televised nationally on CBS. After that, the Gamecocks have a tough home tilt against Memphis on January 2 prior to opening Southeastern Conference play on January 5 on the road against Auburn.

Still waiting for an article on the November football game.
The one where Sakerlina got beat by an instate rival?
Or was it the one where Sakerlina got beat by an instate rival?
Its included in Folks’ book on his affair with Haley. You don’t have a copy yet?
I heard of that, its up there with the Danny Ford book “Winning Without Cheating!”
Right next to the Spurrier and Holtz books, “Quit While You Are Winning”.
Or next to your book “How To Effectively Live With And Love Your Boyfriend While Infected With An STD”
Is something wrong on Taternet? If only you knew how to write, you could have your own site to write all you want about it instead on constantly crying on here for someone to write it for you. I guess you went to Clemson and they taught English and Reading Comprehension while you were out sick, but I am sure you still passed Cow Tipping 101. No wonder you have to troll. . Go back to Moo U and ask for a refund
What are you, in 8th grade?
Why, do you think you saw me in class or something? I mean the way you are crying on here constantly you must be. Did you get the new Taylor Swift song downloaded?
So angry.
no, laughing at you!!! LMAO
Insecurity? Chip on your shoulder?
Insecurity? You are such a child, bless your heart.
Ok. You’ve won me over. USC is better. It is a better-rated college. Its student body is higher rated, and its graduates make more money both immediately after graduation and over their full careers. It has a prettier campus. It has less crime. It has happier students. It is in all kinds of top 20 lists. It is rated higher in all academic rankings. And USC beat Clemson in football the past two years.
Regardless of the above infallible truths and your unclever ad hominem attacks, it’s still amusing that Will didn’t have the fortitude to mention the game of the year in this state in football. Which was the original point.
Why do you feel entitled to have Will write stuff for you? He can and does write whatever the hell he wants here, if you don’t like it go somewhere else.
The Gamecocks’ football team this year were simply not worth writing about, the most notable thing that happened wasn’t any particular game they played, it was the coaching changes that happened. You’re acting so giddy over barely beating a team that struggled all year long? Pretty sad.
Gamecock fans here are so literal and so joyless. In the spirit of the season, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I hope Santa brings you some football recruits and $100 million dollar city makeover. No one could argue that USC needs and deserves both.
LMAO thanks for proving it got to you. 3 posts all without a reply during the night shows it got to you. 1 repy 13 hours ago, one 2 hours agaon and 1 23 minutes ago show you were thinking about it and couldn’t get past it. Again if you don’t like what they write here,or want more about something else you like, then go to a fucking site that writes what you want. lol you don’t have to come here you stupid ass. lol you really are a child crying she didn’t get the doll she wanted. thank you for that laugh this morning!! #owned!!!
Congratulations on your victory. I’m glad to have made your day. I’m sure for years you’ll tell all your friends about that one time you showed someone something.
You in particular seem very literal. I’ll bet you never went to any college, much less USC. True?
You would be out money if you made that bet. USC alumni class of 89
I think you meant “alumnus,” assuming you’re male. English major were you? Or rocket scientist? I feel so owned by you again. I’m not sure I can go on. I may have to go buy a rock out with your cock out shirt or something cool like that and join the cool kids club. This is fun. Say something else really smart.
Just to point out you are now bitching about grammar and language from a comment section on a blog. This isn’t exactly a collection of English papers or dissertations. Nice try though Nancy Drew. I hope you feel better now that you think you are on to something.
You nailed it again with that Nancy Drew comment. I’m so #owned. Congratulations, you’ve scored more comment section argument points! You’re good at this. I’m having so much fun. Say something else really smart. I know this has nothing to do with my original silly post above, but I’m really enjoying the criticism and advice,
You are the one that keeps coming back for more.
Bet you can’t not have the last word. Don’t call me a name ahain because I made a silly comment about this website. You can’t just stop. You own me.
At least I can spell. You must not have gone to college. See what I did there?
You own me yet again, wizard of the comments section. You are so good at this. And you can’t not respond, because you own me.
You keep going back to that. That seems to have you upset. Bless your heart
I bow to your superior comment section form. You are awesome. I am owned. My heart is blessed. By you. Which makes me feel good. But not as important as you. Because you are great at this. Say something else witty and off point. Demonstrate your capabilities. Really go for it this time. You can do it. Because you are the king of internet arguing.
Just letting you go at it yourself. You seem to have so much to say. Why not get it off your chest. It helps to talk.
Thanks for the therapy. And for teaching me my place for posting something silly to this website. Can you forgo another response, wise one?
I’m just glad I was able to help.
You can’t not be last, Sheriff of Commentville.
Why?
I don’t know, why not ask a therapist why you can’t stop.
Then why cant you?
Well, being that you’re the comment-section ruie maker, I guess you’re entitled to the last one. It’s your jam. So, have at it.
Why is Duane Notice untying Michael Carrera shoelaces? Michael doesn’t seem happy. Maybe he doesn’t want to change into the pink, purple and green shoes like his teammate.
USC sucks, They suck at everything, wait they beat us in Basketball? Oh basketball doesn’t matter. Wait they have 2 national championships in baseball, baseball doesn’t matter. Only sports we win matter!
Right you are. When ws the last time they were #1??
SC has been #1 in both basketball and baseball.
Scooter didn’t ask if you had ever been number one…he asked when, idiot.
well it was in the final rankings and it was more recently than Clemson ever finished #1 in any of them, and when they don’t this year it wont matter as most fans will claim it was good just to be a “participant”. Finish #1 and you can talk. until then your ony an 80’s has been, kind of like Wham!
…kind of like Wham!
*yawns*
Wake me up before you pogo…
Choose LIFE.
now that was funny. Well played sir
Your erudition knows no boundaries.
… basketball doesn’t matter…
…because y’all play in a suck conference. It’s UK and then everybody else.
ACC! ACC! ACC!
*Y’all see what TBG did there?*
PRO TIP:
It ain’t as much fun when the rabbit’s got the gun.
And baseball?
FWIW, TBG has attended close to 100 college football games, most involving Clemson. TBG saw Clemson play y’all in baseball @ Sarge Frye in the 1980s in the only college baseball game he ever attended. Never have attended a college basketball game. A family friend was to take a very young TBG to a USC game back when y’all had John Roche (sp?), Tom Owen etc. playing for Big Frank.
As TBG’S blood had not yet turned orange…who knows what may have happened had he not caught the flu bug and been unable to go?
But, yeah, TBG is pretty biased toward football and THE #1 TEAM IN THE NATION, CLEMSON TIGERS!!!!
well when they win 2 times in a sport they are an elite team in it. USC is elite is baseball
This is an excerpt from Chapter 297 of his forthcoming expose, MY HAT IS HARD, by “C”
TBG too bad you didn’t get to see a game with them in basketball. (fan or not) They were one of the best teams in the nation that year and it would have been cool to see them play(they were even ranked #1 at a few times in the season). Roche sprained his ankle in the semi finals of the ACC tournament and without him USC couldn’t win and didn’t advance as the only way to go to the NCAA back then was win the conference. There were no at large bids. For you I hope the same doesn’t happen in football with Watson. It would be about the same for importance of the 1 player you cant win without. As a gamecock I laugh at your good hearted banter and always take you as a gentleman.
Lmao…Oho State kicked Kentucky ass yesterday….

SC is rated 25th in the coaches poll, 27th in the AP poll.
10 – 0 record against a very weak schedule so far. They get into the SEC schedule after the first of the year. Then we will see how they fare.
Good luck to them!
That is true Clemson did kind of bring down the SOS
I’ll try not to get excited until you say it’s OK.
Do that, it will serve you well.

From the photo at the top they look like a couple of chorus girls.
What the hell are they doing, some sort of new type of dance?
I must troll. odd seeing as how they area all (including the rejects from Clemson) better now than I ever was.
Gamecock mating dance… they’ve seen the women’s team and decided that their fellow men’s players were more attractive.
but isn’t your mom a member of the team?
Why are you using your real name this time?
what are you talking about?
Watch me whip… watch me nae nae.
Pride goeth before a fall, but it worketh both ways. The cock and the cat are both symbols of pride. There is no shame in lustily cheering for your team. But there is a phenomenon which the hindi call “Karma.” It comes at the most unexpected times and works its will on great and small. The cock of the walk and the forest king can both be ruler and lunch in the same day.
The cock of the walk’s reckoning could come on Tuesday, the forest king’s got eleven days, at least.
That wasn’t Shakespeare. Was it?
It’s from Yvgenye de Twahlette’s novella, I keep getting schlonged by the Democrat party.. A movement in three octaves.
good for them. At least we won’t have to hear about the beaverball team for a while. shat gets old. Well that and Marcus Lattimore.
Maybe this year they will get an invite to the mighty NIT.
“Gamecock Hoops Off To Historic Hot Start”
When do they play the Citadel?
Actually both USC and Clemson suck this year.USC outplayed Clemson.Citadel is better than both.
butthurt about basketball?
…and in other news, Republicans are still swapping spit with Rump.
Is Hillary still peeing? Or did she just lose her way back to the stage?
Secession Party rally went on as scheduled after Haley approved the permit. One woman counter-protester was arrested. Jatonia Devina Sanford, 27, of Buffalo, N.Y., was charged with public disorderly conduct and simple possession of marijuana,

Congrats to the chickens. Glad we were able to come back and at least make it interesting.
Even being a Clemson fan I have to admit Frank Martin has done an amazing job. He seems to be able to consistently recruit good players so should have that program in good shape for the foreseeable future.
