HE’S NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS SO, EITHER …
This website has little use for status quo S.C. Rep. Todd Atwater. He’s basically a special interest lobbyist masquerading as a state lawmaker … another poster boy for the perpetual ethical dubiousness of Palmetto politics.
That’s why we were surprised to hear him rise in rebuke of the “Republican” agenda at a recent meeting of the S.C. House GOP caucus.
On the list?
1. Pro life/anti-dismemberment
2. Per Child Education Scholarships for kids with developmental disabilities
3. Eminent Domain Reform
4. Dam Safety
5. Ethics Reform
6. Updating the Castle Doctrine
7. Shortening Session/Biennial Budgeting
8. Restructuring DOT
9. Judicial Reform
10. Environmental Regulation Reform.
Hmmmm …
That’s pretty weak if you ask us … even if you flesh out some of the bigger ticket items (ethics reform, judicial reform, etc.) and assume the “Republican” leadership means business on them. Which of course … they don’t.
Anyway, Atwater reportedly rose and addressed S.C. Speaker of the House Jay Lucas after the unveiling of the above agenda … offering an uncharacteristically blunt assessment.
“This agenda sucks,” Atwater told Lucas, according to multiple lawmakers who attended the caucus gathering.
Several conservative lawmakers told us they agreed with Atwater … albeit their criticism of the agenda is coming from a vastly different ideological perspective.
Lucas is facing a badly divided caucus. Like, terribly divided. In an election year. And based on this, it sounds as though his efforts to bring them together are failing … miserably.

Is that agenda ranked in order of importance, or what? Not alphabetical. Maybe in the order the subjects came to their feeble minds?
“6. Updating the Castle Doctrine”
I wonder specifically what they mean by this. Are they going to make it harder on homeowners and other good citizens who use deadly force against criminals, or easier?
I hope the House version of Constitutional Carry gets resurrected next year and idiots like Jay Lucas, Mike Pitts, Greg Hembree, and creeper, Larry Martin, are unsuccessful in blocking it this time around.
In trying to out “gun nut” each other my guess is they want to do away with the laws that make it illegal to set up a “gun trap” that shoots anyone opening the door.
Is she making that money on her back or on her stomach? I bet it’s tighter if on her stomach.
Anyone else see the glaring missing item? ROADS!! “Restructuring DOT” has been going on since I moved to SC 15 years ago, but I have still seen better roads in post-Desert Storm Kuwait.
But it includes our dam safety, so what’s not to like.
Probably the only people who could do it worse than DHECs water division are the legislature.
“Reform” is four out of the ten items listed.
If they could not get it right when laws and regulations were originally passed, what makes them think they can get it right this time?
They won’t get it right ever. We are just dreamers.
Restructuring DOT? Didn’t they do that a few years ago? How about fixing the god damn roads?
Sir, we are here to shuffle shit, not work.
It’s December, we have enough annual leave to take the month off and if not, we will call in sick. Let’s not forget about compensatory time. It’s a great day in SC! What work?????
The problem with “ethics reform” is that every single one of the other reforms involves changing the rules to benefit their financial supporters.
What?…did we say “dam safety?”…silly us—you see ”damn SC flag-ripping legislators” is in fact what we actually and truly really meant to say
Because other that the three senators and 20 House members sane enough to vote for patriots’ flag—the other scum are certifiably…D O A !!!
We don’t have to bring up the traitor’s flag anymore, it’s removed forever. Please find another issue to cry about.
dead and gone was well…dead and gone…he just didn’t know it yet
Because Southern heritage and patriots’ valor he CHOOSES to forget !!!
It looks like a list made by a 12 year old who may have glanced at the newspaper a few times. Ridiculous!
