Opposition To Barack Obama’s “Neighborhood Engineering” Intensifies

A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE “SURRENDER CONGRESS” TO TAKE A STAND …

As crunch time nears on efforts to shut down one of U.S. president Barack Obama‘s most radical, overreaching social experiments, a key member of the U.S. Senate is signaling his opposition to the Washington, D.C. power grab.

U.S. Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina – who is no stranger to bucking the politically correct status quo in the nation’s capital – is reportedly joining the ranks of those opposing the so-called “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing” regulation.

This onerous regulation – promulgated by Obama’s Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) – would effectively put the federal government in charge of local zoning laws all over the country.  This would allow Washington, D.C. to infringe upon one of the most fundamental liberties we have left – the right to live where we want.

Sources familiar with Senator Scott’s thinking tell us he disagrees with the HUD rule and has asked his office to investigate it – likely as a prelude to public hearings before the Banking, Housing and Urban Development committee (of which Scott is a member).

Scott reportedly supports recent court rulings which have discouraged findings of “discrimination by data” – and wants to see a rule based on such findings eliminated.

That’s excellent news ….

A recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling – Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs v. Inclusive Communities Project – expressly forbade the government from imposing racial mandates “based solely on a showing of statistical disparity.”

Not only that, the Court specifically warned against using these “disparate impacts” to dictate race-based housing mandates.

“Courts should avoid interpreting disparate-impact liability to be so expansive as to inject racial considerations into every housing decision,” the court concluded, adding that such considerations must be “properly limited in key respects to avoid serious constitutional questions.”

Indeed … never mind the fact that “neighborhood quotas” are inherently racist against the black Americans they demean and the white Americans they demonize.

Earlier this year, the U.S. House of Representatives – led by Rep. Paul Gosar of Arizona – stripped funding for this Orwellian nonsense from a Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) appropriations bill.

That measure is currently being taken up by the Senate, and Scott’s opposition is likely to embolden more GOP Senators to support the House defunding language.  How come?  Well, not to put too fine a point on it but Scott is black – and his opposition to race-based social engineering like this puts a major crimp in the traditional liberal spin supporting such measures.  It might also help spur U.S. “majority” leader Mitch McConnell into taking the appropriate action regarding this appropriations bill – a.k.a. adopting the House language.

Let’s hope that’s what happens …

More to the point: This is a golden opportunity for the “Surrender Congress” to finally stand up and tell the Obama administration (which has been a disaster for black Americans, by the way) that the era of GOP appeasement is over.  We’ve been arguing in recent months that Congress must radically reinvent itself – that its members must rediscover their backbones and start reasserting their power over the purse as a way to check executive overreach.

Again, let’s hope that’s what happens here …
