“OUR COUNTRY CANNOT BE THE VICTIM OF HORRENDOUS ATTACKS”
Donald Trump – the GOP presidential frontrunner who built his insurgent campaign railing against illegal immigration – is upping the ante on this increasingly potent political issue.
As various “Republican” presidential candidates try to splice which Muslim immigrants America should accept, Trump is once again throwing down a gauntlet: Calling for a “total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”
Citing polling data showing “great hatred towards Americans by large segments of the Muslim population,” Trump said it was necessary to stop the immigrant influx until the roots of this hatred could be understood.
Specifically, Trump cited a recent Center for Security Policy poll which found that 51 percent of U.S. Muslims believed they “should have the choice of being governed according to shariah (law).”
That number really doesn’t do much for us (we think the sharia law issue is ridiculous), but the poll also found that a quarter of American Muslims believe it is “legitimate to use violence to punish those who give offense to Islam by, for example, portraying the prophet Mohammed.”
That’s a pretty scary number …
“Without looking at the various polling data, it is obvious to anybody the hatred is beyond comprehension,” Trump said. “Where this hatred comes from and why we will have to determine. Until we are able to determine and understand this problem and the dangerous threat it poses, our country cannot be the victims of horrendous attacks by people that believe only in Jihad, and have no sense of reason or respect for human life.”

Actually there is no Constitutional issue. The US can set whatever guidelines it wants for immigration. Non-US citizens refused entry to the US have no “Constitutional Rights.” We can discriminate against people on any basis until such time as they are within our borders. At that point Constitutional rights attach. Until then, they cannot sue for discrimination.

If they are a US Citizen they are fully protected by the Constitution. They cannot be denied entry into the US, and that is not what he said. There are some complexities relating to the rights of citizens, such as a Muslim American cannot be treated any different than a Christian American in regard to immigration by spouses and relatives. But there must be a US Citizen involved or the individual must be within US borders. It is not unconstitutional to deny immigration into the US on the basis of race, religion, or national origin.
Trump does not seem concerned about the potential to discriminate against American citizens who are Muslim. He is against all Muslims.

Donald Trump, the golden boy of the republican party, is beloved because “he tells it like it is”. Here he goes telling like it is, again and the base just eats it up.
It is December and Trump has been leading since last spring. He may very well be the party’s nominee. The potential damage to the party is huge and you will only have yourselves to blame.
