GAMECOCK BRASS MEET WITH FORMER CLEMSON OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR
Southern Methodist University head football coach Chad Morris is highly unlikely to become the next head coach at the University of South Carolina. In fact most insiders probably wouldn’t even put the former Clemson offensive mastermind on the “short list” for the Gamecock job.
Nonetheless, South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner flew to Dallas, Texas on November 22 to meet with the young coach.
Tanner and several other representatives of the school met Morris in the conference room of the General Aviation terminal at Love Field. The meeting lasted roughly an hour, we’re told.
Tanner and his entourage reportedly took a chartered flight in order to throw those tracking the University’s two public planes.
Morris, 46, was a high school coach for a decade-and-a-half in Texas before being tapped as assistant head coach/ offensive coordinator at Tulsa in 2010. After a year with the Golden Hurricane, he was hired as Clemson’s offensive coordinator – unleashing an up-tempo, spread offense on the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) that helped produce a whopping 42 wins from 2011-14.
Morris was the highest-paid assistant coach in America during his four years in Tigertown – with good reason.
In 2012, the Tigers’ offense average 512.7 yards and 41 points per game. The following year the numbers were almost identically gaudy – 507.7 yards and 40.2 points per game. In 2014 – which was widely viewed as a rebuilding year offensively – Clemson still averaged more than 400 yards per game.
Things haven’t gone so well at SMU, though. The Mustangs have posted a 2-9 record in Morris’ first year in Dallas – and rumors abound that he’s looking to grab one of the many available coaching openings heading into the 2016 season.
Morris’ Mustangs close out their 2015 season this weekend against the Memphis Tigers, whose fourth-year head coach Justin Fuente is rumored to be on South Carolina’s short list (along with Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart).
In other South Carolina coaching news, Houston University head coach Tom Herman – believed by many to be the frontrunner for Gamecock job – has reportedly taken his name out of consideration for the position.
South Carolina’s coaching job came open earlier this year when eleventh-year head coach Steve Spurrier resigned midway through the season. Interim head coach Shawn Elliott has posted a 1-3 mark since taking over for Spurrier.
South Carolina is 3-8 on the year – its worst record since 1999, when the team lost all eleven games under first-year head coach Lou Holtz.

That would an incredibly stupid argument. Clemson played a legitimate program last year in their bowl (a team also currently slated to gain a playoff spot) and kicked their ass, even with “Three and Out” Stoudt playing QB. So quit pulling excuses out of your ass. Has playing a tough schedule helped us out? Not if you consider getting owned by the Citadel a telling factor.

While USC is not among the top tier programs in the SEC, the SEC is probably the premier college football conference in the US.The only drawback in that regard is that USC is a relative newcomer to the SEC, but no big deal, still the top conference. And any ambitious coach, it seems would want to coach in what is regarded as the premier conference.
In some respects, I don’t think it will be hard to get a top ranked coach, if you have the money, facilities, and the desire to have a top flight football program.
And what ever became of the idea to try to recruit some of those SEC Western division head coaches over to the Eastern conference, where the competition is not as tough, but it is still the SEC. Les Miles of LSU(he has recently fallen on hard times at LSU) and Gary Mullen come to mind.

While Alabama has won the National Championship three times in the last ten years(2005-2014), four other other SEC teams, Florida(3), LSU(2), Auburn, and Tennessee, in the last twenty years(1995-2014), have also won the National Champion ship. Ten Championships in last twenty years, by five different teams, that is not bad. Over time, it indicates that the SEC has been a solid football conference, winning the National Championship ten times with four different teams.
Over the last twenty years, the SEC has been the best college football conference and will remain so, with a number of teams acquitting themselves quite well.

Luckily, I’m ahead of the game, as I have studied and given draftable grades to 12 Buckeyes with NFL potential. And that is probably a conservative number. That dozen does not include QB J.T. Barrett (I actually have a 1st/2nd on him for future reference) who backed up Jones in Monday night’s win over Virginia Tech. Nor does it include juniors CB Eli Apple and S Tyvis Powell. They too figure to have NFL futures at some point; I just hadn’t fully studied them this summer.
If all draft eligible Buckeyes declare for 2016, there’s a chance they’ll have the most selections by a program in any one draft. The all-time mark in a seven round draft is 14, held by none other than Ohio State in 2004..

Hard to argue with Chad Morris’s success at Clemson, but too often he only new one speed, full throttle. Their were times when Clemson’s defence just got off the field after a South Carolina 8 minute drive that I wish our offense could eat some time instead of trying to score in three plays, so our defense could rest.
Chad didn’t have patience enough to develop any power rushing. I know you can’t compare a healthy DeShawn Watson to what Chad Morris had, but our current offense can score in three plays or eat 7 minutes off the clock. It can get a lead, come from behind or preserve a lead. This year’s offense can tire out their defense and rest ours. It can manage the clock whether there is 8 minutes left in the half or 40 seconds. It’s not just because of Watson that Clemson’s offense is better. The rushing is better, the play calling is better and the game management is better.
At SMU Chad Morris is using the power run game. He is not throwing the ball that much.
Gotta have talent to throw the ball.Ohio State lost Devon Smith and two other WR’s from last year.They have a hard time ‘stretching’ the field even the great athletes they have and 4 projected 1st round picks on offense (Elliot,Decker,Thomas,Jones).
In player interviews, they said that Morris was quick to give up on new ideas, plays etc… if they were not successful. Scott and Elliot give them more time to get it right before giving up.
Whomever Tanner chooses it is inevitable. Nick Saban and Gary Pinkel cut their teeth at Toledo. A protege of Coach Kehres (331-24-3), Matt Campbell stands out from Nick and Gary when they had the job. At 35, Coach Campbell will make a winner out of Carolina and win the big ones. As I implied, Tanner will fuck it up

You know that advertising and television revenue pours into South Carolina because of University athletics. You know that revenue sports supports all the other athletes and their scholarships also.

There is an old saying that goes something like this: Your treasury is where your heart is. We should be emphasizing education, not money guzzling athletic programs and their elites that rape the programs for personal profit.
Colleges and Universities have many missions besides education. They do research, provide technical support to agriculture and other industries. There is a mutually beneficial synergy that comes from mixing those missions. They also provide students with experience in arts, community service and social recreation.
Sports enhance the educational mission. Each benefits from the other. Many of the finest professors, researchers and students from arround the country come to USC or Clemson, who would’ve never heard of The University South Carolina or Clemson without sports.
NCAA sports are a marketing bonanza for colleges and universities. Even schools that don’t make a profit, recognize the importance sports are to advancing their educational mission.
Sports keeps alumni connected to their Alma Mater, which results in those schools having higher research and educational endowments as well as academic scholarships.
The principles of business work in the private sector too. As crass as it seems to you, sports with college has worked. Sports has as much to do with education as McDonald’s has to do with movies. The smart people thought they were idiots, but millions have been made by McDonald’s as well as Disney by their association.
America has the best and most popular colleges and universities in the world. Facts are that college sports increases public support for education. Your liberal ideals of “educational should be where our heart is” does not reflect the beautiful complexity of human nature. We love our schools, but college sports combines two loves in a mutually beneficial way. Liberals seek an idealized world that can never exist, conservatives look at the reality of human nature ask how can we improve it. Separating college sports from education does promote the IDEAL but in reality will cause harm to education.

IF that happens, and I don’t think it’s a crazy scenario for tonight’s games at all, the Big Ten not only gets three teams into New Years Six games, it also likely gets two teams into the College Football Playoff, with one of those teams being Ohio State and the other being the Iowa-Michigan State winner.
The Iowa-Michigan State loser would then go to the Rose Bowl, under this scenario.
If Oklahoma beats Oklahoma State, I do not think it will be possible for the Big Ten to get two teams into the playoff, unless Clemson would lose to North Carolina in the ACC title game OR Alabama would lose to Florida in the SEC title. Oklahoma will be one of the four playoff teams, along with the Iowa-Michigan State winner, plus Alabama and Clemson if those two teams win out.
It also wouldn’t surprise me to see Ohio State jump Notre Dame if the Irish beat Stanford, unless they flatten the Cardinal. The losses for Ohio State and Notre Dame both came in rainy conditions to Top Five rated foes. Granted, Notre Dame lost at Clemson and Ohio State lost at home to Michigan State.
Notre Dame best win is at home against Navy, who was ranked 16th this week but who was crushed by Houston on Friday. Ohio State just pounded Michigan State in Ann Arbor.
No conference is going to send two teams. Your best chance is FSU beats Florida who beats Alabama. Stanford beats ND then gets beat by USC. Winner of Oklahoma -Oklahoma St. goes no matter what. Winner of Clemson – UNC goes no matter what. UNC will be on the top ten this week.

If they didn’t get hosed by the bad call vs Nebraska where the WR clearly went out of bounds but still wasn’t over turned and cost them the game they would be 12-0 and a clear #1 after the close wins by Clemson over such weak teams in recent weeks. Don’t get me wrong Clemson is easily one of the two best right now, and completely deserve to be where they are, but no matter the match up with those 4 they wont win the semi finals unless they get Iowa in the semi’s. Watson will be a close 2nd for the Heisman too, in my opinion should win, but I don’t see it going to anyone other than Henry right now. Im trying to do this honestly without bias, and its just my opinion obviously.

yes but a refs wrong call didn’t cause the outcome of the Michigan st/ Michigan game, You failed to notice one was a human error, the other was a lucky play (much like the kick 6 for Auburn that won them a game, the SEC title and almost a national title) one is part of football and happens in every game, the other changed the correct outcome of a game even when every piece of video replay showed the refs to be wrong they still wouldn’t over turn it. But you are right about 1 thing OSU doesn’t get in unless and only unless Bama gets upset by Florida. but no OSU wouldn’t win 9-10, but it doesn’t matter as they lost this one, and it cost them the playoffs. Couldn’t win with it on the line so not a championship team and don’t deserve to be there because of it. Right now the best team in the country might be MSU or it might be Clemson, but it isn’t OSU
