Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson compared refugees slated to arrive in America “dogs” – and Syrian refugees as “rabid dogs.”
The 2016 “Republican” presidential candidate – who is running neck-and-neck with GOP frontrunner Donald Trump – addressed the refugee issue during a campaign stop in Alabama this week.
“If there’s a rabid dog running around in your neighborhood, you’re probably not going to assume something good about that dog. And you’re probably going to put your children out of the way,” Carson said. “That doesn’t mean that you hate all dogs. But you’re going to put your intellect into motion and you’re thinking, ‘How do I protect my children at the same time? … At the same time, I love dogs but I’m going to call the humane society and hopefully they can come and take this dog away.”

Carson has said he with the thirty-one U.S. governors who oppose accepting Syrian refugees. Of course some oppose them more than others.
We oppose all government-subsidized refugee resettlements … on principle.

There’s one that lives across the street from me who can see me when I open my front door. Gracie has a gate on her front porch and she will bark at me when she sees me because she demands that I cross the street to pet her and talk to her and then hide a treat under a rug for her to “hunt”. Dr. Carson could have used a better analogy. Compare taking in Syrian Refugees to taking in homeless people. Most of us have a spare room in our home for which we could all take in one or two homeless people, right? So why don’t we all do that? Yep.

What is being asked of me as a citizen is, not only to finance Syrian refugees with my tax dollars, but to take any and all with no questions asked which is a real safety issue.

Homeless people still don’t stay at my house. They stay at homeless shelters. If shelters were super picky about every homeless person that came in they wouldn’t need nearly as much donations. I’m sure if SLED checked each one, I am willing to bet that most have some form of criminal background or mental illness in their history.
I am not against checking refugees to quash terrorism concerns, however if they are cleared I do not see the issue in taking some in. Those people can get jobs and pay out of pocket for as much as they can.
If you are concerned about terrorists, specifically those linked to ISIS, I would worry more about the troubled youths that end up reading and watching material created by ISIS and becoming sympathetic towards them. No amount of refugee refusal and illegal immigrant deportation is going to stop that, and that is far more prominent.

Not all of them. There are rules to follow such as curfews and not being allowed to be drunk, so the ones that don’t follow the rules don’t stay in shelters, they stay out on the street and some don’t exactly obey laws. Your bad analogy there opens the door for the questions about the refugees that act that way and aren’t following rules themselves. Those tend to be the exact ones that shouldn’t be here and bad things usually happen if you let those in. you walked right into that one and didn’t even see it.

Some of those refugees do deserve shelter. This is not the place for them to seek it, if it is forced on the people of this state by the federal government, and if there is no time to separate the good ones from the insanely murderous evil ones.

And it is hypocritical for a person to claim he or she is a Christian but is unwilling to fulfill the most basic of Christ’s commandments. Christ did not turn away the poor. christ did not turn away those of other religions. Christ did not turn away the wicked. Christ did not turn away those who may do him harm. He was very explicit as to what we as Christians were to do for the homeless and the starving.
You are free to fear Syrian refugees. You are free to support turning them away, knowing it may lead to their death. You are free to watch them die of starvation and do nothing. You are free to watch their children die at sea and do nothing. You are free to turn you head when they are killed by bullets and bombs. You are free to watch children die of starvation in Africa, and do nothing. But you are not free to do those things and claim you act as a Christian. You are not free to proclaim your love of man and your support those who do those things. You are not free to put even your personal safety ahead of the needs of the poor and defenseless and claim you act as a Christian. Because you do not.
