The root of nearly every free-speech infringement on campuses across the country is that someone—almost always a liberal—has been offended or has sniffed out a potential offense in the making. Then, the silencing campaign begins. The offender must be punished, not just for justice’s sake, but also to send the message to anyone else on campus that should he or she stray off the leftist script, they too might find themselves investigated, harassed, ostracized, or even expelled. If the illiberal left can preemptively silence opposing speakers or opposing groups— such as getting a speech or event canceled, or denying campus recognition for a group—even better.

The real debate will turn, as it always does, on money. The students have been saddled with massive student loan debts. Debts caused by States refusing to provide funds for colleges to operate, i.e., SC gives massively less money to college operations than it did 20 years ago. Instead of the fear mongering of leaving our kids with future debts, we are giving them the debts right now. It’s even outrageous that the students can’t even declare bankruptcy in order to free themselves from what amounts to government backed “Loan Sharks.”
Student loan debt is the biggest threat to the US Economy. People at the State’s level have been passing their yearly budgets on the backs of college funding cuts for decades. Now the chickens have come home to roost. Especially at U. of South Carolina. Which has one of the highest college debt ratios in America. The USC Athletic Dept. debt owes over $150 million and counting. Throw in all the unnecessary buildings being built up around Columbia by USC, and the outsourcing of Student Housing to unregulated REIT’s (Real-Estate Investment Trusts): the students are being put into debtors prison before they even get their worthless college degrees.
This is where the real protests are headed. Not “Black Lives Mater,” but what to do about the Student Loan Debts that are crippling our young generations.
This student loan bubble was created by self serving Liberals who have forwarded the notion that all kids should go to college. This policy has resulted in 4 year degree Starbucks Baristas with excellent knowledge of Scandinavian art history. All of the money loaned out and we still don’t have engineers, scientists, or tech. It has also fueled illegal immigration due to these students not knowing the difference between a hammer and a screwdriver.
I will agree with a few of your points. But, lets not blame the Liberals entirely for this disaster. The Conservatives also share most of the blame. They lied when they said they were cutting taxes at the State level. When in reality they were just stealing money from colleges to pay the bills. Then the colleges sent the bills to the students.
Note: we have over 73,000 unemployed engineers in the USA per IEEE statistics. There are no engineering shortages in the USA. What we have are a number of corporations, and colleges using the H1 Visa program to bring in foreign engineers & professors. Who work for peanuts and bring down engineering salaries. To the point that, students smart enough to be engineers are going instead into other fields that pay more.
Still one of the best ways to make a living is thru the trades. The book: “The Millionaire Next Door,” showed that the majority of millionaires in the USA are Blue Collar Workers. Not the white collar “wage slaves.”

The educational system is to blame for these kids. This is just like what they experienced in kindergarten… never allowing anyone to say anything negative, coddling, we have to “protect the children”. Yeah, Ellie Mae turned 15 in August. One reason for her longevity is that she has some terrier breed in her. And many of the terrier breed have an average longevity upwards to around sixteen years. I get them to the Vet every year for a checkup and shots and when they need it, which is not often. The dog food I used is the Beneful “Heathy Weight” and feed them the prescribe amounts as list on the bag for their weight. I give them no “human food” or table scraps. They do get milk bones and those chew strips to keep their teeth clean. I have three and one half acres, all fenced in, so they have room to roam. I entice them to go walking and running with me every morning by treating them to their chew strips after the Walk.
That is a recent picture of Ellie Mae that I use for my avatar.
I presently have a Lab, “HollyBelle,” she is five and probably the smartest/sweetest Lab of the four that I have owned. Labs are great, the best breed around. And they sleep in their houses on the carport, and the dog house are heated. They stay active, act as watch dogs, they don’t have it inn their hearts to be mean, aggressive guard dogs. My three other Labs probably averaged about thirteen years for longevity.
My ” Buffee ” sleeps behind my head. She has a hard time getting up, but will always get there. Poor dogs hips hurt her. And being a mixed breed. When Ellie dies, will or do you suggest another dog ?

October 27, 2014: Study Reveals Significant Number of Non-Citizens Vote in U.S. Elections
In a forthcoming article in the journal Electoral Studies, we bring real data from big social science survey datasets to bear on the question of whether, to what extent, and for whom non-citizens vote in U.S. elections. Most non-citizens do not register, let alone vote. But enough do that their participation can change the outcome of close races. Our data comes from the Cooperative Congressional Election Study (CCES). Its large number of observations (32,800 in 2008 and 55,400 in 2010) provide sufficient samples of the non-immigrant sub-population, with 339 non-citizen respondents in 2008 and 489 in 2010. For the 2008 CCES, we also attempted to match respondents to voter files so that we could verify whether they actually voted. How many non-citizens participate in U.S. elections? More than 14 percent of non-citizens in both the 2008 and 2010 samples indicated that they were registered to vote. Furthermore, some of these non-citizens voted. Our best guess, based upon extrapolations from the portion of the sample with a verified vote, is that 6.4 percent of non-citizens voted in 2008 and 2.2 percent of non-citizens voted in 2010.
Because non-citizens tended to favor Democrats (Obama won more than 80 percent of the votes of non-citizens in the 2008 CCES sample), we find that this participation was large enough to plausibly account for Democratic victories in a few close elections.

Na.The adrenaline would be rushing if I was a failed deadbeat mother that at one time lost custody of her alleged child while pretending to home school a child- yet spends 24/7 posting on websites.

Why not do this – everybody gets four years. If, at the end of four years, you can’t diagram a compound-complex English sentence, give a brief overview of the Bill of Rights, and read a balance sheet, you should be deported.
Heck I learned that in High School, but small classes. Colleges often have hundreds of students per class and no answers, just books you can’t even buy at the book store and while they are not supposed to, many written by professors. College is a waste of money today, unless COMPLETELY free. Which (cough cough, is not an option for us).
Most professors don’t give a care, took some classes in later years to learn more about technology – I like to read, nice, but inadequate education.
The best professors, don’t speak clear English. Best advisors, more interested in sports, best President more interested in keeping his/her job v. going against the grain.
That isn’t true across the board, but if I were a gambling woman placing bets on administration, the odds aren’t very good.
I would hope than I am across the board, but, yes, it is a daily grind to get my colleagues to speak and write good English. I have to give over the first two weeks of most of my classes to teaching proper grammar.
When I take my time, I have excellent grammar. There are only two required English classes, I aced both. The worst remark on any paper, my comma was barely noticeable. Professor circled and discounted points, with comment “is this a speck?” He took 3 points for that. I’ll never forget, but that was then….
Today we use a lot of creative writing that breaks every English rule, including creative. At least what I am familiar with. Example: Wut? Wud? and so on. I understand it is phonetically correct, that schwa sound, but …
When we get on these boards, few take the time or give a care, including me, about accuracy. I only care if I am corresponding in a business sense.
College is BIG business.
You were being serious! I was expecting a lace of sarcasm in your comment. I can totally relate. We home school, my first year was virtual. I am not dissing on the “senior” teacher over the incredible primary teacher, but …when we were on blackboard, I will never forget how she “axed” someone something. My daughter looked at me puzzled and then senior corrected herself, it took a few tries, but she got it right. Smart lady, horrible grammar, including written.
I never complained in that case because the primary teacher I dealt with, while junior, was superior in every way.
