TIGERS BREAK GROUND ON NEW FOOTBALL COMPLEX …
Clemson University has been spanking its arch-rival the University of South Carolina on the recruiting trail of late … (with a little help from Clemson graduate Nikki Haley, the Palmetto State’s governor).
Now the Tiger program – which oh by the way is currently ranked No. 1 in America – is about to add to its recruiting advantage.
Clemson broke ground this week on a new state-of-the-art 140,000 square-foot football operations complex. The $55 million facility is scheduled to open in February 2017.
Picking up the tab? The school’s athletic department, its booster organization and private donors. An estimated $19.5 million of the project will be financed with athletic revenue bonds.
What will the new facility look like?
Take a look …

Um, yeah.
“We are very excited and very appreciative of the approval of this project and a new day-to-day home of our program,” head coach Dabo Swinney said in a statement.
Ya think?
Meanwhile, in Columbia …

Yeah, these new “FACILTY” are the latest craze..!!
I thought the headline meant a new Face Book facility. Oops. My bad.
good one!
Clemson will have a big advantage being able to practice indoors when the temperature sores above 72 degrees.
“sores”..? you want to re-think that?
Soars. .thanks. that’s God’s revenge for me adjusting the Colonel’s to/too.
I missed that one…. anyway the color scheme is totally depressing, and almost gloomy!
I have to agree with you on that account.
You really have the “proofreading” thing going on today. Hope you don’t catch me “screwing the poach.”
Well, it’s probably because for background “noise” I’ve been listening to Amos & Andy TV shows for the past week. Sometimes they’ll crack me up with mispronounced words or mixed up phrases…. especially the Kingfish.
Where do you get “Amos and Andy?” Is it on TV?
I thought that was a “politically incorrect” activity in this modern world.
I miss “Lightning,” Aunt Esther, and the whole crew.
Lately it’s on you tube — I’ve watched/listened to the following (some more than once}
some tv programs –
—Amos & Andy
—Dragnet (only the early b&w)
—Highway Patrol (if anyone wants to watch I can give you some fascinating info on the program)
—Perry Mason
some radio programs –
—Amos & Andy
—Dragnet
— detective stories like Philip Marlowe/Michael Shayne/ Johnny Dollar/
—Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce)
The early years had 39 week runs, and some programs were on for 10+ years. Some have the original sponsor ads which are neat, and many have the original ads removed.
Also, I use Wikipedia to get info on them and it’s sort of like a history of things I listened to or watched growing up. There’s millions of hours out there. I’ll look up two very special programs I recommend and post the episodes here later.
Anybody who gets interested in them —- enjoy!
I will have to check that out. I visit you tube just about every day. Never thought about checking out old TV shows. Back in the eighties and nineties I could get them at the movie rental stores.
Thanks, I am going to you tube shortly to check it out.
Shifty, I came across an old program “Police Surgeon” on Antenna TV. Never heard of it before. Any info?
Just looked it up on Wiki and here is an interesting footnote —
maybe you can view it there:
Jump up ^ Retro TV press release: “Retro TV Adds Police Surgeon”, December 3, 2014. (Retro TV’s website has been blacklisted at Wikipedia; thus, no link will be presented here.)
This is from same Wiki article on my previous post —-
In December 2014, it was announced that the Retro Television Network would begin broadcasting reruns of Police Surgeon, beginning in spring 2015. It started on 30 March 2015, with two episodes run during the third hour of prime time.[when?] Two episodes per night are scheduled Monday through Friday.[1]
Pull up on You Tube, Dragnet/Lee Marvin to get the episode “The Cast” — powerful (24 minutes)
Just pulled it up.
I just watched it again….
It was good, never seen it. Lee Marvin looked so young.
Thanks again, I will check out more later.
Many of the radio programs, and recorded discs, and tv shows have playlists that automatically roll-over to the next one on the list. You can skip around the playlist manually. It’s also interesting to see major stars starting their acting careers. The programs I pull up usually have lots of dialogue and little visual things you need to see to follow the story line.
Highway Patrol (Broderick Crawford) is interesting to me because of the action, the cars, and the locations. The locations and roads can be seen repeated because they saved money. Those cars, heavy duty engines, etc., in the programs sound like rattle-traps because of the sound quality.
A time came where Crawford lost his license for DUI and his driving had to be done on roads out-of-jurisdiction. But sometimes he would be seen on a city street (usually residential) where he drive (illegally) about 1/2 block!
At some point in the later episodes his drinking was so severe he was drunk on screen, but I learned to tell that because he would deliver his lines looking into nowhere, but he had great memory for his lines. It actually is one of my favorites programs to watch/listen.
About the cars — there are existing clubs who have those cars tricked out today. Wikipedia has a lot of info (for car buffs) with photos, details, etc. about the cars used in the series.
Crawford became wealthy from the program because it was popular, even though, to me, a lot of it sort of hokey and unbelievable. Watch a few episodes and you’ll see what I mean. I also learned about some neat ways to commit criminal acts!
Hey boy. The reason he looked so young is because these are old shows. DUH! Get life boy.
PS: I just looked up some ‘Bushisms’ —
Bushisms:
“Oftentimes, we live in a processed world, you know, people focus on the process and not results.”
“The law I sign today directs new funds… to the task of collecting vital intelligence… on weapons of mass production.”
“It will take time to restore chaos and order.”
“They have miscalculated me as a leader.”
“Natural gas is hemispheric… because it is a product that we can find in our neighborhoods.”
“I am mindful not only of preserving executive powers for myself, but for predecessors as well.”
“We need an energy bill that encourages consumption.”
“We are making steadfast progress.”
“during my administration teen age pregnancy had dropped drastically after 19″………………….
Clemson’s indoor practice facility opened in early 2013.
I purchased one at the hardware store on Thursday.
Works good, after a little fine tuning.
“with a little help from Clemson graduate Nikki Haley, the Palmetto State’s governor”
Hodges did the same things for USC-E when he was governor.
http://www.goupstate.com/article/20030406/NEWS/304060363
Not even closely comparable. According to your citation, Hodges had a guy over to his house one time, walked into a dessert room during half-time at a basketball game, and was scheduled to speak to recruits on a separate occasion, but never did.
So Hodges was an inept helper?
Elmer Fudd recruited for USCe?
I had forgotten that some radio personalities in the upstate (Spartanburg- Greenville area) used to refer to Hodges as “Elmer Fudd.”
Cracked me up, the first time I heard that.
Looks like a place the boys from Dire Straits would work out in
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAD6Obi7Cag
Well, strike while the iron is hot!
Well that kind of makes The Doodie look like a storage shed.
If you look close you can see the place they will put the glory holes for the cows
I see someone still wants to be me. Imitation and flattery and all.
It seems Dabo has the program up and running. A new facility along with his success on the field for the last few years should put him a foot up in the recruiting wars. USC has some work to do, get a new coach and try to recruit. That could be a tough assignment. As of now, advantage Clemson, for a few years.
Would I be prijumptious ( HELP ME here Shifty) to suggest the name of facility to be FRANK HOWARD-CHARLEY WATERS?
Frank Howard’s Charley Horse ……. ?????
When you have winning program and coach that doesn’t quit in the middle of the season you get nice things……….
Some say that USC has actual paved parking, not soybean fields. In other words, USC paved paradise and put up a parking lot. And, Clemson has remained paradise!
why are so you worried about USC that you would have to bring them up? oh that’s right they are in your heads. as good as you are doing whats going to happen so you know when you in fact do pull a Clemson you are worried it will be to them. That means if you do, even as bad as they are they would have beaten the best that shit conference has to prove it
Umm, was that english?
One of the teams in that “shit conference” was the last to earn the BCS tittle. They already have proven themselves.
one of those teams will be better than the other this year from the win or loss. lets hope for the “power” of the ACC it is Clemsux, or else their best is still not as good as the SEC’s worst. the bcs “tittle” is 2 years gone so not really sure your point there as it is not relevant anymore
Top athletic and academic school in SC – earns top facilities and support.
You should check out computing facilities and ICAR too- attracts top students not just athletics.
Not even close to the top academic school in SC. quit fabricating that lie
Joe, you think Benedict College is better?
At USC you have nobody left in your academic program that’s worth a dime.
You list Riefsnider as smart state even though he is at UT Arlington now,
You’ve lost a lot of young guys in engineering (Chris Li, Goutam Koley etc) and will loose more as soon as they get their tenure. You will be Clemson’s farm team for academics – we’ll take the good one and you can ac play “flag ship” in your mind. Man am I happy I left that place!
Who said I thought it was USC? That’s why Clemson isn’t up there in academics as much as you think. You make accusations and argument fallacies, as well as fabricate lies to pass off as the truth. Thank you for proving my point, and by the way, I am sure people from there are glad you left too.
How about “top academic public school” in SC?
No matter how you dress it up, a cow barn is still a cow barn.
And a chicken coop is a chicken coop.
and a hater troll is still a troll. Where is nothing more laughable than a “grown man” who claims to have zero connection to either school constantly writing on this site against one of them. How pathetic your life really is you sad little man. Everyone knows the truth about you
Feel better now? I bet just thinking about me keeps you awake at night.
I don’t waste my time think of you. you aren’t worth it. now go cry to your mommy since you have no firends
Which brings up the question: Why does a chicken coop have two doors?—–Because if it had four doors it would be a chicken sedan.
Lordy, it has indoor AND outdoor dance floors?
Folks’ little frat boys are back to stealing screen names. They never have a comment that they put their own name on.
The “best in the country.”
In a poor state like SC. Surely, this money could have been spent on something more reflective of our State’s needs.
