We heard Ben Carson speak earlier this year and left the room thoroughly unimpressed …
Still, lots of people like him. In fact the retired neurosurgeon is currently one of the frontrunners for the “Republican” presidential nomination.
For how long, though?
Carson’s compelling personal narrative – a cornerstone of his 2016 campaign – is taking on water in the wake of several media reports suggesting that numerous details of his personal life have been fabricated. And while the candidate is firing back at the liberal media (and his political opponents) – calling the reports “garbage” – at least some of the charges are holding up.
For example according to Politico, Carson’s campaign is confirming that a story included in his book “Gifted Hands” about his application and acceptance to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point was inaccurate.
West Point has no record of Carson ever applying at the school – let alone being accepted, as Carson has claimed.
“When presented with this evidence, Carson’s campaign conceded the story was false,” Politico‘s Kyle Cheney reported.
This story broke not long after a CNN investigation into other aspects of Carson’s personal narrative uncovered numerous inconsistencies. Specifically, the network was unable to corroborate Carson’s claim that he committed multiple acts of juvenile violence – including stabbing a boy named “Bob” and beating another child named “Jerry” with a lock while growing up on the mean streets of Detroit.
“At the core of his narrative of spiritual redemption are his acts of violence as an angry young man – stabbing, rock throwing, brick hurling and baseball bat beating – that preceded Carson’s sudden transformation into the composed figure who stands before voters today,” CNN’s Scott Glover and Maeve Reston reported.
None of those violent outbursts were able to be confirmed, though – and friends, classmates and neighbors who grew up with Carson told CNN they had no memory of the incidents he outlined.
Carson’s campaign declined to offer any supporting information to corroborate his claims prior to the report being published – but the candidate ripped the results of the investigation.
“It’s a bunch of lies,” he said. “That’s what it is. A bunch of lies, attempting to say that I’m lying about my history. I think it’s pathetic.”
Carson said he changed the names of the victims of his juvenile violence, and that it wasn’t widely known among his peers.
“I want to point out how silly the CNN investigation is,” he told Fox News. “Because when I would have flashes of temper, it would only be the people who were directly involved. It wouldn’t be something that everyone else knows.”
According to the latest aggregate polling from Real Clear Politics, Carson had just pulled ahead of Donald Trump among GOP voters nationwide – largely on the basis of a recent NBC/ Wall Street Journal survey that showed him with a six-point lead.
Never one to pull a punch, Trump responded to the Carson story by saying his “Republican” rival’s personal history could be a “total fabrication.”

I have said before here, and other places, that I prefer Carson. I would, however, be happy with Trump, Fiorina, Rubio, Cruz, Paul, the Huck, almost any of them, except Graham, Bush, or that really old guy whose name I can never remember.
But what makes me angry is bad journalism. And a setup is bad journalism. That’s a story, planted by another candidate’s organization which has no real story or be even false, but has enough legs to make an impact. This story will shrivel. It may help Carson raise more money, but that’s about all. That’s a guess, of course and I could be wrong.

My son got a full scholarship offered from several colleges. He decided to go the school of his choice (paid by moi) because he WANTED TO. Also, the book only says that he “was offered.”
It’s WEST POINT. It’s not like other colleges.

Not so fast Mama, I was told by my counselor that I could go to any military academy I desired. The main push was West Point, this happened with the principal and some sort of Army rep in the room at that time. They called my Mother from that meeting and basically had her force me to go to the meeting for candidates. After the meeting, they kept me and told me that what they said in that meeting was a formality for me. I can tell you that the previous year after taking an informal IQ test in my psychology class I was given a test three more times with higher degrees of isolation each time, the last in front of my teacher,counselor, and principal. With having that personal experience, I can’t straight away call the man a liar. BTW, when i was a teenager I was the dumbest kid there was and made a lot of bad decisions that made me have to grow up real fast. This was back in the 70s before the freeloading baby daddy was,invented.
It is now Saturday and the news cycle is turning to favor Carson. The general Pubic and his supporters, in particular, consider this a big “nothing burger.”
Did Carson mislabel this venture or dress it up for his book. He probably did. Was it worth some attention in the Press? Who knows, I think the the basic story is true, his particulars about actual conversations could have been better addressed. There is no doubt that the man could have been enrolled at West Point if he has so desired.
What the backlash has done, it is now thrust the lies and cover ups of Hillary and Obama into the limelight, where neither wants to be. This will be a big nothing to everyone in this country except those on the left. They will do anything to keep the limelight off their heroes, Hillary and Obama. the left will try to keep this story going, but it has no legs, it has turned the focus of honesty to where it belongs, to the left.

My daughter started the application process to West Point about 2 years ago. We made 3 visits & spent lots of time with admissions counselors. She decided it wasn’t for her, and committed to another school. But, having been through just that initial phase, I still find it incredibly hard to believe that anyone at WP would tell someone that they were in before they even applied. Before psychological testing, Congressional interviews/evaluations, etc. Even as a 4.0 student athlete being recruited by the West Point athletic department, we never told that she “was in if she applied”. At the very least, it was a huge exaggeration on Carson’s part , IMO.
I admit, there is some there there. I’m just giving you my personal experience and why I can’t just say the man is lying out of pocket. Let me tell you, I was the worst possible candidate in my life style and academics. If I couldn’t sit down and just do it on a test I wasn’t interested in making the effort. I did have a job as a bag boy and was an extremely dedicated hard worker. That being said, I’ve always had that work hard, play hard thing and skipping school to grab some waves, babes, and beers was my thing. I would have never survived that rigid structure. One last thing, that little IQ test deal has served me well over the years. I’ve had a couple of times where I was needing a good job quick and both times walked out with a great job. At one of those jobs, I was the first guy ever hired without a 4 year degree and became #1, teaching my methods at company conferences throughout the East becoming National Trainer.

He is not my horse in this race. And don’t buy the ridiculous point that it wasn’t a scholarship. Going to college free is receiving a scholarship.
