CHARLESTON EVENT WILL HELP TRAIN CANDIDATES
|| By TAYLOR BROWN || The S.C. House Republican Caucus is hosting a campaign school in Charleston, S.C. early next month – and majority leader Bruce Bannister is encouraging current and aspiring GOP officials to attend.
This one-day event is designed to help candidates running in the 2016 primary and general election learn the tools they need to be victorious.
Event organizers have assembled some of the most experienced political operatives in the state – people who know how to win elections. They’ll talk about filing, polling, grassroots, strategy – and they’ve brought in experts from other fields to discuss other areas. For example, I’ll be providing insights into best practices on social media – and I’ve convinced my fearless founding editor to tag along and share his experiences in working with (and for) the media.
Say what you want about Will Folks, but he spent four years as a press secretary to governor Mark Sanford and has spent most of the last decade driving the state’s political debate on the website you are reading now. He knows the media game from every conceivable vantage point.
If you are thinking of running for political office at any level, you should put this event on your calendar and plan to join us in Charleston on December 5th.
In fact here is a link to the website where you can register, and here is a video of majority leader Bannister talking about the event …

Kudos to Bannister for organizing this campaign school. More events like this are needed in our state. Many good people are interested in offering for office, but the process of filing, fundraising, and organizing a campaign can be more than a little intimidating.
It is also the sort of thing you can’t afford to get wrong …
Just three years ago our state experienced “Ballot-maggedon,” in which nearly 200 candidates were tossed from the 2012 Republican and Democratic primary ballots for failing to file the proper paperwork. Their campaigns were over before they even started, in other words.
(And yes, news of that scandal broke exclusively on this website).
Candidates who attend this seminar will learn how to launch their candidacies the right way – and run their campaigns to win.
Please join us in Charleston on December 5!
Taylor Brown is a 20-something Wofford College graduate who somehow got sucked into politics at an early age. She is easily won over with Rush’s fast food, wine, and spirited political arguments.

Folks was a mediocre press secretary who left the position in disgrace, and has done nothing of consequence since.
—- and your first post was this one, just a minute ago?
First post?
Well you’re here! That’s gotta be something he’s done.
“For example, I’ll be providing insights into best practices on social media”
lulz
“The S.C. House Republican Caucus is hosting a campaign school”
Cockroaches looking to breed. Great, probably some taxpayer money going to pay for it somehow too.
This is so rich! Learn how to read with comprehension, y’all, and you too can maybe try to fool the idiot electorate in SC into voting for you too! After all, the leaders should be not more stupider than the stupidees to elect them. Which is what we have now, and probably always will, because we need to be stupider than the Chinese, or they will get our stupidest jobs, again! And Poor Nikki will have to fuck more to get them back, or something…
And she be gittin’ ugly… Ooooo, that smell…
Save your money, clown schools in Fla. are a lot cheaper.
Why would a GOP candidate in this state need to go to “campaign school” to win?
I think this is more about not going to jail after you win..
Sadly, their successes in that realm, far outnumber their failures.
:-(
You got it. The course goes like this:
“Look people, you got 2 piles of money; your personal money here and the campaign money over there….”
And, the advanced course: Prerequisite: The Piles of Money course. The outline:
Chapter 1: Keeping it in your pants.
Chapter 2: Staying away from the Appalachian Trail
Chapter 3: Avoiding hookers and stripper bars
Chapter 4: Keeping women on your staff–off your staff
Chapter 5: Tax returns 101
Chapter 6: What social media can do to and for you
Chapter 7: Tips for remembering RNC talking points under pressure
Chapter 8: Donations, gifts, and quid pro quo
Chapter 9: Essential phrases for key groups
Chapter 10: The Bible for candidates: the important parts to know to win
Chapter 11: Dog whistles: their history, use, and importance
LOL!!!! I believe LexCo “Republicans” get to skip #3 as such is a required rite of passage over here.
Please remove Chapter 1 – no one gets caught, and when they do they ask forgiveness from God, give their jilted wive a new Mercedes 350 and move on.
Excellent Rocky! If you get caught at #1, skip to #10
Well that explains a lot. So you can really cut out the whole book. Makes a lot of sense now.
Yes!!!!! An early winner today!!!
“Fleecing the fleecers”
“We need to elect Republicans at all levels of government,” Lucas said.”
{{{{SHUDDER}}}} Do we really? Especially if they are of Lucas’ ilk? Lucas and a lot of his cronies are nothing but RINO’s. Hey Jay, we haven’t forgotten how you sold us out and reneged on your promise to get that Constitutional Carry bill on the floor during the last days of this session. POS!
I guess he’s right about one thing, though. With “Republicans” like himself, who needs Democrats?
Of course you do. Let’s get those anti-tax, Club for Growth people back on the school boards so we can stop wasting hard-earned taxpayer money on non-core things like social workers and counselors, just for starters. If they can’t come to school ready to learn or things are getting in the way, well, work it out. Not the taxpayers problem.
Except it is the taxpayers problem when they end up quitting school, being unemployed or underemployed, end up in the criminal justice system, substance abuse any other major health problems.
But wait! We have a plan for that too. it’s called blaming them for bad choices and being takers and leeches. And no, we didn’t fail anyone. It was those broke ass failing government-run schools. They failed these kids.
Sound familiar?
Over here in LexCo, we are wall-to-wall Republican. Our school boards, like our city and county councils, rarely if ever have a problem with jacking up our taxes, especially if they stand to be personally “enriched” by doing do.
Palatial schools or bust!!!!
Yeah. That’s why I said “…back on the school boards”. Yup, I’ve seen RBHS
But CC, I was being sarcastic/snarky with that comment. I was recalling the District 5 board problems back in the late 90s.
Did the building of “palatial” schools involve a bond referendum? Serious question; I wasn’t here at the time
Rak, I remember when that was going on but I was so immersed in work at the time, I can’t recall.
Will they be teaching things like this–Crony Capitalism 101?
In the Republican (Presidential) race, 95 percent of TV ad spending thus far has come from outside groups, while just 5 percent comes from the actual campaigns. It is the opposite on the Democratic side: 95 percent of spending has been directly from campaigns, and just 5 percent is outside groups
America! Sold!–to the highest bidder!
Taylor’s last social media campaign has 22 followers. Those who can’t do, teach.
Check Facebook, sweetness
321 people like this on Facebook. Not bad for somewhat of a niche issue in a small state. I’m sure engagement is higher on it that 321 people though. Such is the nature of public Facebook posts lots of people see them when their friends engage them and this drive engagement. With the exception of the always wired in, and millennials. Case in point both my mid 60sih parents are active on Facebook and as political as my Dad is, I just can’t get him to sign up for Twitter. Twitter just doesn’t have critical mass in this area, though it is fun.
I have a Facebook friend – Tango!!!!
Didn’t he change his name to something else, LMAO…? Something about tar or something? LMAO LMAO LMAO
TARe…. something. I think it’s a misspelling though. It’s supposed to be reTARDed.
Could I get the booze and condoms concession at this event?
Hey man, do you need any help? Are you hiring? That should pay well.
Bet it is going to smell like the burnout section at a dragstrip once you get that many family values conservatives away from home.
LMAO!!!! You called that one!!!!’
DING, DING, DING, DING!!!!!
We have a winner for comment of the week!!!!!
The worst part is that they are the better option on the ballot. Makes you want to puke on the monitor in the booth.
Hmmm…
…or wipe a booger on the screen as you finish?
At one job I had years ago, an older friend was working in the control room where there was a bay window with really thick glass. He was leaned back in the chair, talking on the intercom to other co-workers and made mention that I was on the other side of the glass.
As I had just purchased a small box of raisins in the vending area and had the box open, the devil got in me and made me turn away from him for a second and get one of the raisins between between my thumb and middle finger. As I turned back toward him and that window, I acted as though picking my nose with my trigger finger and then transferred the raisin under that finger as I smeared it across the window. My friend about fell out of his chair and let out an expletive, something he rarely ever did, as he told everyone on the comm that I had just smeared a booger across his window.
Raisins can be a source of entertainment, as well as nutrition.
And some foot tapping and touching in the stalls
It’s doubtful whether such a school would have helped the three Republican candidates for Georgetown City Council avoid a blow-out Tuesday, but maybe it would have helped them not do such a miserable job of filing their campaign reports. (I know, ’cause I looked them up.)
Bannister must be cooperating with the FBI to gather the SC politicians and “political operatives” (puke) in one place on the same day, saving on transportation costs to the jailhouse. Kind of like LE sending letters to people with outstanding warrants to come in and pick up the new Widescreen TV they’ve just won! If you happen to be going, and they run your prints upon entry, run like hell.
FITSNews has favored BIG LOSERS: Thomas Ravenel, Vincent Sheheen, Tom Ervin, Bakarie Sellers, Nancy Mace ….etc…. Yet he knows the media game from every conceivable vantage point?????…and he Drives the political debate…even though FITS pretty much marches in lockstep w/ The State Newspaper, and other leftist news organizations…
You could not be more FULL of SHIT…
FITS knows Smear and GOSSIP…and that is the most valuable function of this site.
Couldn’t you put in a little gay sex reference, sort of two-fer for Thursday.
I wonder if Mr. Bannister’s friend Bobby Harrell will be there…
Twenty years ago one had to put $50,000 of their own money on the table before party gatekeepers would even grant a meeting with Party Executive Officials
At a minimum 25% would go to the Party and another 25% would go to a consulting firm under contract to the Party
If you could not come up with your buy in money, you could still run but would receive no Party support or Party recognition of your candidacy
TRANSLATION: Uh…yeah…sure we took in payday when NC and GA kicked ‘em out because we so LOVE that lobbyist money
And OF COURSE we did NOT let you vote when we pulled down the flag of patriots and—yes we actually think that it’s funny
And we KNOW our cabooses are grass when you voters hand I-Lie-To-Conservatives-Joe Wilson his head next year
And right up until we’re toast on South Carolina’s corrupt political landscape we’ll keep telling you all how we don’t care !!!
