TREND LINES DOWN …

After a few weeks on the mend, consumer comfort in America is tumbling again … with all signs pointing toward a disappointing year.

Wait … wasn’t 2015 the year rainbows and unicorns were supposed to magically revive the U.S. economy?

Yes …

But things haven’t turned out that way … and the latest consumer comfort data from Bloomberg would seem to indicate momentum is being lost as a critical holiday shopping season approaches.

Bloomberg’s Consumer Comfort Index (CCI)  – which measures consumer comfort on a scale of zero to 100 – currently stands at 42.8.   That’s a 2.4-point decline from its mid-October high (.pdf here).

“The CCI’s had a bumpy year, rising in January, March, June and September only to see corrections in February, April-May, July and October,” the data crunchers noted.  “It started the year at 43.6, similar to its current position, but the overall trend line points down.”

Indeed …

Yeah … that look like “rainbows and unicorns” to you?

“We remain pessimistic about the ability of consumers to truly ‘recover’ given elevated joblessness and stagnant wages,” we wrote back in August.

We’re now exceedingly pessimistic …

Produced by Langer Research Associates, CCI data is based on 1,000 national random-sample landline and cellular telephone interviews, 250 per week (in a four-week rolling average).  It’s been compiled weekly since December 1985.

Wow…FITS…thank you for alerting us to this SURPRISING development. Whoda Thunk it…
Certainly something is amiss w/ this report. You’ve told us all was GREAT, with Blue Skies and Smooth Sailing since Nov. 2008….except when you wanted to Bash the GOP…(:

hey willie, get your hands out of the front of your pants and go to work

how about some video showing the students protest walkout at Spring Valley this morning

no doubt if kids took videos of the “incident”, there should be footage of their walkout

There is still hope, sniff….sniff. Seeing minority children defending a white cop makes my heart nearly burst.

Bad week for you liberals…Get your ass kicked in the debates, then the truth about your abysmal failure on the economy leaks out…

A Great week for America, though…(:

Hey brain trust. There weren’t any Democrats on the debate stage. Let me help you out – we just got a two year budget deal, funding for Planned Parenthood and a debt ceiling increase that goes beyond President Barak Hussien Obama’s final year, an Iran Deal, gay marriage, Obamacare funded now through 2017, won the Obamacare lawsuit YOU said would be it’s demise, funding for Homeland Security you wanted to block, we got a new liberal speaker, the Senate passes everything we ask for. Jack ass – you’re 0-15. Duh!!!

“There weren’t any Democrats on the debate stage.”
They were all moderators.

Just saw were RNC has pulled out of NBC debate for February. Was it because of CNBC – or wanting to get Donaldo off a stage come February?

Exactly. And they got embarrassed, along w/ the Democrat Party.

Unfortunately for our country, what you say is right. The conservatives get defeated, because, I think, more than half the republicans are rino’s or actual democrats who run as republicans. Not so much here in SC, except for Flimsy Graham, but elsewhere across the country.

Hey, we got one of our own elected Speaker this week. Hasn’t been all bad.

Has the Speaker made much of a difference? We’ve been able to stop – or slow down- some of the destruction of the country…but until we rid DC of your Race-Hating Disease-in-Chief, it’s all window dressing…

I do love the fact that you stupid motherfuckers now have to hang all of your hopes on Republicans not attacking you as harshly as you deserve, because Obama is so hated, along with the Democrat Party….It’s a nice way to go into 2016…with Hillary as your candidate.

So hated he won election twice, with electoral landslides. Good luck winning in 2016 – even your own Repubican latinos won’t vote for you. It’s pathetic.

He ran against a FITS-Moderate. And had multiple voters in swing states. The GOP voters will not allow that in 2016…and the county is in a mess, and there is no way to blame Bush after 8 years of TOTAL Democrat/Obama control…

And: you do know Obama had voter integrity laws delayed until 2014…and you see what happened to him then…

Sucks being you…Dumbass…LMAO…

Wait Wil, I thought last report was up? And isn’t the truth that if one looks at the graph, we’re actually still ahead of where we were last year? Come on, show a little perspective.

SC Weekly Unemployment Claims: http://www.dol.gov/ui/data.pdf

The largest increases in initial claims for the week ending October 17 were in South Carolina (+2,156), Michigan (+2,117), Minnesota (+525), Vermont (+103), and Wyoming (+69), while the largest decreases were in Pennsylvania (-3,583), Texas (-2,893), Georgia (-2,524), New York (-2,174), and Florida (-1,801).

The impact of Joaquin is just beginning to show up in South Carolina economic data. South Carolina had 5,714 new unemployment claims for the first full week in October. This is a 2,117 increase from the previous week and the highest since the week of January 10, 2015 when post holiday layoffs are usually high. This has occurred at a time when the nearby states of Georgia and Florida are experiencing significant decreases. The advance estimate for claims next week is also high at 4,461.

South Carolinians are eligible for special disaster unemployment benefits. The total number receiving continuing benefits rose 2,036 this week from 14,884 to 16,920. This is 57 more than the same week last year. This marks the first time in 303 weeks (almost six years, extending to before Haley took office) that the year over year number of people receiving benefits has increased. http://www.oui.doleta.gov/unemploy/claims.asp

I guess I better cancel the contract I have to sell my house, and on the new one I’m buying, too.

Oh, and I better call and tell my new boss that I can’t take the new job, either, because I’M NOT SUPPOSED TO BE DOING BETTER .
