WHITE MALE COP VIDEOTAPED “ARRESTING” BLACK FEMALE STUDENT

The Richland County (S.C.) Sheriff’s Department has a serious issue on its hands …

In a disturbing video clip posted to social media this week, a white male deputy (a school resource officer assigned to Spring Valley High School) is seen violently subduing a black teenage girl.

Here’s the clip …

video

Wow …

What happened?

“The student was told she was under arrest for disturbing (the) school and given instructions which she again refused,” Richland County sheriff Leon Lott told local television station WIS TV 10 (NBC – Columbia, S.C.). “The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested by the (officer).”

Huh?

WIS referred to the incident as depicting a “confrontation” between the student and the policeman.

Really?

Um … our guess is Lott and WIS are both going to have to come up with something a lot better than that.  Fast.

Initial unconfirmed reports suggest the officer was dispatched to the class owing to a dispute involving a cell phone.

“She had a cell phone and refused to give it up,” one source familiar with the situation told us. “That’s what it was over.”

UPDATE: The story is now national news.

Sue his sorry ass. At this point cops should be required to carry malpractice insurance. They are out of control.

I guess being under arrest is optional now? It may as well be because I’m sure she, in fact, ’bout ta get paid.’

Not getting abused by the police IN SCHOOL isn’t optional, apparently.

Reply

It totally IS optional. Behave appropriately. Comply with lawful, reasonable requests and commands. No problem.

You know, I never actually heard him say, “You’re under arrest” before he flipped the desk over.

That could be a further legal problem for him.

Context would be helpful. The video is OBVIOUSLY edited between 0:02 and 0:03 and we have no idea what happened in the run up to this.

It does not matter long as she did not attack the officer, which he did do.

Richland 2 uses threats of calling the “resource officer” to deal with students and parents. Phrases such as “blow your head off” or “weapons authorized” are used when you disagree with them. This is not a racial, issue. It is an example of school officials out of control.

I guess no one taught her to obey lawful orders from the police…. As someone new to teaching this year, I’ve already had one student attack another in class, viciously beating him. The City of Charleston SRO was in the classroom before I could call the office. Some of these students are as big as adults, without any self control or fear of consequences. I for one am glad SROs are in the schools.

Maybe it is just me but sometimes I think some of these “kids” dumb up just to see if they can get their ass kicked

Odds are the student was told several times to do something but chose to play “what you gonna do fucker card” knowing full well the consequences

In the end school dollars will go to a hen house of lawyers, car dealership will sell a new car or two, a home that has been on the market for a year or two will finally sell, a SRO will have an asterisk by his name and Al Sharpton will be on the red eye to Columbia

Of course there is always the chance Neon Leon the High Sheriff will tell the whiners and moaners to go fuck themselves

That’s a felony and I’m sorry, I don’t care who you are, if you’ve ever been punched in the face in a fight you know that that is exactly how you’d most likely react too. Parents are going sue, parents are going to win. The officer or terrorist whichever you deem quantifys this person. Likely will not get as much of a wrist slap. The people who will be accountable will be the taxes payer yet again, until the taxes payers finally wake up and say no more. Then regulate the living tar out if the police to the point where there in fear of job security or federal lock up. Until that day comes and it’s coming you can only poke the side of a animal so much before you get bite. 5-10 years you’ll be seeing terrorist cops on cnn as they do isil.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 6:25 pm

yes, the officer and students were clearly in danger from an unarmed pupil sitting at a desk. Thank goodness the armed officer with all that training was able to midget toss her across the room and manhandle her to get the escalating situation under control.

I think what’s happened here is a classic case of S.C. cops. being S.C. cops. “We ain’t gonna take no lip from nobody boy”. They think they have the right to humiliate and injure people just because they don’t comply. Like the kid in Anderson shot over some pot b/c he didn’t stop his car…of which SLED still won’t release the video.

If she did have a weapon, the police officer put all of the other students in danger. It’s usually best to remove the “audience” (all other students) when a student is not in compliance. Normally this diffuses the situation because the student is no longer trying to “save face” in front of peers.

There were many issues that led to it not being a conducive environment for learning. If it wasn’t for my computer technology teacher basically letting me live in her class room when I wasn’t in another class I would have lost my mind. My sister ended up going on home-bound because she couldn’t deal with all the stress caused by ill-behaved “students”. If anyone thinks this is out of line they should be witness to the abuse the students take at the hands of other students daily. I’d be willing to bet a case of wine that she had previous discipline issues and is no where near a model student. She needed to be out of the environment and she was removed. Some students lives will likely be better for at least a few days.

BTW people RNE and SVHS are both some of the “better” pubic schools in the area. I can only imagine what Kennan, Lower Richland or even Ridgeview are like.

Have you ever gone to Keenan, Lower Richland, or Ridgeview? It’s sad when we make judgments based on what we “heard.” I am sure students who went to those schools take pride in their education as well.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 7:16 pm

To rephrase….if I am sitting at my desk, unarmed, in a public place on public property and by “resisting” in this example not giving up my mobile phone…is it appropriate for an officer of the law, who is armed, to approach me and physically hurl me across the room, potentially causing physical injury, and use pressure holds to arrest and charge me with a crime?

Taylor Brown October 26, 2015 at 7:22 pm

As a graduate of SVHS who has had to give up her phone (I thought I was super sly texting under the desk with a flip phone) listening to your teacher will almost always help your case. You don’t listen, you’ll have an administrator called. If you don’t listen to an administrator, an SRO will be called–they’re the last ditch effort. An SRO isn’t just called “just cause”

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 7:26 pm

To rephrase again, is the level of force demonstrated in the clip…regardless of who gets called when…acceptable against an unarmed teenage girl who doesn’t want to hand over her mobile phone?

Taylor Brown October 26, 2015 at 7:28 pm

To state again, you’re judging one act of an SRO off of a 15 second clip… We didn’t see the half hour that led up to it, or what was stated before the SRO tried to remove her from her desk. I’m positive this isn’t what Officer Ben wanted.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 7:33 pm

Real World October 26, 2015 at 8:02 pm

Miss Brown will never experience violence like this from a LEO in SC. Things like that don’t happen in her world. Even if she did the exact same thing as that poor girl. You should see how some cops treat the constant flow of drunk, combative, disrespectful, white female Gamecocks that pour into in the ER at Baptist on game days, compared to drunk African-American girls on any given night. It so glaringly racist with some white cops that you can’t ‘not’ notice it. So, please don’t pretend that you know what’s happening because some other kid happened to throw a tantrum in your class. You will never know. Not your fault, but you will never know.

PoliticallyAcceptableTarget October 26, 2015 at 8:03 pm

“Her world”? She went to the very school this happened at. How much closer can you get to this world?

Fee October 26, 2015 at 8:08 pm

It’s amazing how we can live in the same “world” and experience it so differently…I’m just saying!

PoliticallyAcceptableTarget October 26, 2015 at 8:13 pm

It’s amazing how in some worlds the inhabitants just never take responsibility for their own stupid decisions. This girl defied her teacher, then an administrator, then resisted arrest. No one but propagandists feel sorry for her. If the facts turn out otherwise, as this is a mere preliminary understanding of the issue, then we can adjust our judgments of this officer’s conduct. But at least as it appears, this little nitwit resisted arrest and was in every sense an impediment to everyone else in the room learning. As far as I know she was not injured. But do you think it got to this point in a vacuum? Where police officers are in classrooms? Good god, you’ll believe anything if it absolves someone who has the same skin color as you of responsibility for their own idiocy.

Fee October 26, 2015 at 8:17 pm

Humm… Now we can tell skin color through posts. That’s amazing I wish I had your super powers! LOL! And actually I have blonde hair and blue eyes! Never said I agree with the students behavior. Thanks for asking! LMBO!

PoliticallyAcceptableTarget October 26, 2015 at 8:24 pm

Well then my point was misdirected and I apologize.

Real World October 26, 2015 at 8:19 pm

If you did to your own child what this cop did to that girl you would be arrested. How is his abuse justified?

PoliticallyAcceptableTarget October 26, 2015 at 8:23 pm

Because she’s being arrested genius. She’s in a school. She’s an impediment to everyone learning in the class. She won’t surrender her phone, she won’t leave the class, etc. She has 100 ways out but is too stupid to take any of them. She’s not Rosa Parks. She’s just a pest. No one wanted to arrest her, but she won’t listen to anyone. So she’s being arrested. When you’re being arrested, and you won’t do it cooperatively, you’ll be arrested uncooperatively. Get it? That’s how it works. It’s brutal and unfortunate, and yet her own fault.

Real World October 26, 2015 at 8:08 pm

Real World October 26, 2015 at 8:14 pm

Good for you, dear.
Still doesn’t make what I said any less true. Like I said, it’s not your fault that you will have an easier time in this world than most minority women, but don’t pretend that your good manners are the only thing keeping you from being assaulted by an LEO.

Taylor Brown October 26, 2015 at 8:31 pm

I’m sorry for believing that if you treat people with respect, you’ll be treated with respect–regardless of your skin color. That’s what my momma taught me. I’m so sorry that you don’t believe/practice that.

Real World October 26, 2015 at 8:40 pm

Too bad the SRO doesn’t practice that with young females much smaller than him. You are the one who initially tried to play a victim of racism in your earlier post. Why?

Taylor Brown October 26, 2015 at 10:02 pm

Because I had a desk thrown at me because I was white… That was the explanation I was given as it flew at my body…

Real World October 26, 2015 at 11:08 pm

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 7:35 pm

Real World October 26, 2015 at 8:17 pm

Would you let a cop theow your child around like that? If you did that in public to your own child you would be arrested.

TroubleBaby October 26, 2015 at 8:33 pm

That’s true!

One of the biggest fallacies in government is this:

I don’t have the right to visit violence upon you outside of self defense….BUT- government somehow has that right and it’s “ok” with most everyone.

Jan Helfeld has been very good in showing this fallacy to the general public, in fact, he made Bernie Sanders look like the tyrant he is over it:

The Colonel October 26, 2015 at 11:31 pm

If my child caused a problem that resorted in a response by the SRO, the SRO’s actions would be the last thing he’d be worried about.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 27, 2015 at 12:05 am

So after the officer beats your child…you’ll take your turn at beating your kid?

Daniel Boome October 27, 2015 at 7:26 am

No high school aged kid who has been raised by two parents even half-way right, would ever conduct themselves in this manner in school. It just wouldn’t happen.

The Colonel October 27, 2015 at 7:32 am

Oh, it happens to kids from every kind of background you can classify, teenagers often lack the part of the brain that tells them when to shut up and move on.

Daniel Boome October 27, 2015 at 7:39 am

No doubt the disrespect part can come from kids of all backgrounds. But no kid being raised by a stable two parent household would ever have to have their situation escalated to the SRO simply because they refused to remove themselves from a class by both a teach and administrator. Only someone without fear of accountability at home does something like that.

The Colonel October 27, 2015 at 7:53 am

I have to disagree and I have more than a little experience to base it on. Stable, two parent families generally give a child the best opportunity to “turn out right”. That said, there are prisons full of kids from “stable, two parent families” and just as many successful kids from broken homes (see Dr. Ben Carson).

Clearly, two parent homes where the father is engaged on average produce better results but they’re no guarantee of success.

Rocky Verdad October 27, 2015 at 7:55 am

Rocky Verdad October 27, 2015 at 7:53 am

Sure got an hour’s full that time.

PoliticallyAcceptableTarget October 26, 2015 at 7:43 pm

The answer is maybe. If she was talking or texting or taking calls or it was ringing or w/e, then yeah, it might be appropriate to take the phone away, or if she won’t surrender it, to demand she leave the class. Don’t you think? If no one can get her to leave, what are your options? Just let her chat on the phone in the middle of class? And even if it isn’t that level of insubordination, do you really want to set a precedent that you won’t use force as a last resort when students simply won’t listen to their professors regarding fundamental school rules? These folks will push the boundaries of that limp-wristedness to their absolute extremes. Everyone will be on their phones in the middle of class.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 7:47 pm

Is that what it comes to? That refusing to give up a phone or leave class equals a throttling in public view that’s disproportionate to the offense?
It’s like lazy parenting…and just going for the spanking straight away. My kids are very well behaved and they do what I ask b/c I talk to them like human beings and respect them. I have never had to lay a single hand on their bottoms at all.

nothing new October 26, 2015 at 8:24 pm

Police aren’t parents. Should he have hugged her and given her a twinkie?

PoliticallyAcceptableTarget October 26, 2015 at 8:32 pm

They would have doled out detention, they tried to just confiscate the phone. They probably tried eleven things, including threatening her with arrest. She refused all of those options. So yes, it might have come to that. Won’t put phone away, won’t give phone up, won’t leave class, etc. It is somewhat disproportionate to the offense but you have to see it in context and we also have to consider the precedent set for other recalcitrant students. We don’t know what precipitated it. She may have been having a conversation on her phone in class. She may have been texting non-stop. The phone may have been sounding or beeping repeatedly. She was probably asked repeatedly to put the phone away, and finally was asked to give it up. She refused every command, every way out. It’s not lazy parenting. It’s proper parenting with someone who isn’t just going to receive a stern reprimand and then change. Not all children are as amenable as yours.

I know the SRO, I wouldn’t screw with him. Because the video is so short, we have no idea what went on before or for that matter after, but I bet the next kid he tells to “get up and get stepping” will kill themselves trying to comply.

Col.Flagg October 26, 2015 at 8:26 pm

How do you know him?

The Colonel October 26, 2015 at 8:30 pm

I’m in high schools all over the state and know quite a few of them but in the case of Deputy Fields, my middle son had an issue at school and the SRO got involved. He was “tough but fair” as they say.

stumpknocker October 26, 2015 at 8:38 pm

what part of that video looked tough but fare to you?

The Colonel October 26, 2015 at 8:41 pm

He told her to comply and she didn’t. We don’t have any idea what happened before the video begins, it looks like it was cut. My experience with him didn’t involve anyone getting “rodeo clowned”. As big a pain in the ass as my middle son can be, he does know when to shut up and comply.

We all know people like her with the “nobody tells me what to do” attitude; male, female, all ages and races. Passive aggressive at times, just like this. She is displaying learned behavior. It usually catches up with these people; sometimes they get into a road rage incident, sometimes they get told their coupon for free fries is out of date, etc. And they end up “in the system” because they thought it was all about them.

Better for her to find out sooner than later that she’s not special.

I’m with Taylor Brown; this officer did what he had to do; this cretin had already wasted enough of the class’ time.

The Colonel October 27, 2015 at 6:51 am

The news had a much clearer video this morning. The “young lady” was ordered by the teacher to leave the class after disrupting class with her phone. She refused. A school administrator told her to leave class. She refused. The SRO was called, he cleared the area around her desk and ordered her to leave the class for times. She refused. When the officer attempted to force her to get up she clearly swung at him and the rodeo was on. Missing from the video is the fact that her (boy) friend was also apparently removed and arrested without incident.

Deputy Fields will probably be fired before this is over. Armchair quarterbacking this morning, I wonder why he didn’t just drag the desk with the “young lady” in it out into the hall before going “full contact”.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 8:49 pm

Daniel Boome October 27, 2015 at 7:23 am

Wow, great analogy. Incredibly stupid and flawed analogy, but clever nonetheless.

PoliticallyAcceptableTarget October 26, 2015 at 9:29 pm

He really didn’t go too far. It looks a lot worse than it is. No one was injured. Someone was dragged across the floor while resisting arrest. That’s it and that’s all. It’s all just a media contrived, special interest contrived hullabaloo. And once again, an innocent man gets his life turned upside down. There is absolutely, positively no crime here. When someone will not take orders and will not cooperate with anyone, including police officers, and are committing a crime, they’re arrested, against their will. This is the result. And it’s fine. Unfortunate but 100% acceptable.

Miranda Rights October 26, 2015 at 9:30 pm

He never said she was arrested in the video….

PoliticallyAcceptableTarget October 26, 2015 at 9:33 pm

Because she’s a minor they didn’t actually cuff her. Being nice, they gave her an appearance ticket. She was charged with a crime.

Miranda Rights October 26, 2015 at 9:39 pm

Actually, at the end of the video he’s trying to cuff her.

But more importantly, the officer never told her she was under arrest…that’s going to come back and bite him.

Quietus October 26, 2015 at 10:10 pm

We don’t know what happened before the 15 seconds of video.

Miranda Rights October 26, 2015 at 10:27 pm

It will be interesting to see what the testimony of the kids in the class is as the facts come out.

Yousmellofignorance October 27, 2015 at 12:57 am

You need to read the update from teacher and students in the classroom. Thus the reason he was immediately removed of all SRO duties.

Quietus October 27, 2015 at 1:01 am

From a student in the class room that took a video.

This is only part of it. But Ok like some may have seen but, I want to clear that he is not Racist she was asked to leave the class for telling the Teacher no she won’t put up her phone. He wrote her up for being disrespectful and disobedient he asked her to leave the class she said”No” he called Administrator and he asked her to come with her she told him No. The asked her over and then told her if she doesn’t he will call and office to take her out the room. When he arrives he asked her to get up 4 or 5 times she tells him No. He then moves the objects around him and while standing over her he asked one more time then tryed to pick her up but she started fight him. Then he used force to get hands behind her back.

Yousmellofignorance October 27, 2015 at 1:07 am

First there is nothing in video of him being “racist”. I see you obviously know the cop, so I appreciate your being as honest to what you believe. The girl did not strike that officer at anytime the video clearly shows that and will be proven that it was a natural reaction from being flipped in desk. So thanks

Quietus October 27, 2015 at 1:09 am

I don’t know the officer involved in this, and I haven’t written anything that would even insinuate that. She did strike the officer thrice, slow down the video and watch it. You can pause it by clicking on it.

Yousmellofignorance October 27, 2015 at 1:16 am

Well why would you say he isn’t a racist off the rip. That would insinuate you have some sort of knowledge of it this some how? But if you live here you should know by now by the statements of the kids in the class she didn’t hit the cop once yet alone thrice you keep saying

Quietus October 27, 2015 at 1:21 am

The comments I posted below my first sentance were from a student in the class that took the video. Click the link and you can read them there. I didn’t bring up the race issue the student did. From a student in the Classroom that took a video. Then his comments, and then a link to his video which contain the comments. In that video you can clearly see three punches thrown. The information I’m getting locally isn’t matching anything you’re saying. You are playing a game or trolling. My bet would be trolling.

Yousmellofignorance October 27, 2015 at 1:45 am

What you getting locally really? SBI involved, the two kids with the videos are involved and numerous people who have looked at thsee video have said she didn’t hit the cop, not one time. She blocked which is resisting but did not hit the cop. Regardless how you or Taylor the mole tries spinning it. Guess what both those tennagers even though I admire what they done was doing the exact same crap as she was playing around with the phone. Lott even said the video was disturbing and that’s the sheiff.

Quietus October 26, 2015 at 10:10 pm

And the rest of the students in class didn’t even react. He was probably her BF or some such. Students don’t generally like people that disrupt class and cause a ruckus. If this was truly a “massive violation of her rights” or he was really unnecessarily violent the teacher, administrators and/or the students would have reacted differently.

Real Worldbhuuu October 26, 2015 at 11:16 pm

No. Kids, especially minorty kids, see videos of police killing people like them all the time online. You’d be terrified into silence too.

Quietus October 26, 2015 at 11:50 pm

Not buying it. It was a mixed class and I don’t think anyone was terrified in to silence. The second video that was posted was by a student in the class who was black. He said it had nothing to do with race and the student that was arrested was being disruptive and disrespectful.

Daniel Boome October 27, 2015 at 7:21 am

Refusing orders to physically remove yourself from a certain space by teacher, then school administrator, and then SRO is certainly a romantic definition of “a bratty kid”. It’s completely false, but a nice way or you to paint a rosy picture and make this officer’s actions seem more out of line. The fact is, the way things were going, this officer was going to have to use violence no matter what. If he had tried to gently handle this girl, you know without a doubt it wouldn’t have gone well. She would have tried to control the whole situation. Instead, the officer made she didn’t get that option.

The Colonel October 26, 2015 at 8:38 pm

Rocky Verdad October 26, 2015 at 9:32 pm

Either way Colonel – bottom line now is $100K for her family, and a black mark on the officers record.

The Colonel October 26, 2015 at 9:37 pm

Meh, maybe. He was named in a suit 8-9 years ago for “police brutality” but apparently won the suit. He is generally well liked in the school. He’ll definitely be transferred.

The Colonel October 26, 2015 at 10:34 pm

Maybe, maybe not, Fields was sued 8 years ago for “police violence” and won. I’ll be very surprised if he isn’t transferred. The athletes really like him because he works with them on strength training and coached defense on the football team.

Rocky Verdad October 27, 2015 at 7:52 am

Rocky Verdad October 27, 2015 at 7:58 am

Have a good day. And don’t think I’m trying to excuse the student – I’m not. I just think there could have been a less sensational way to handle it. I still say, let her sit there, the bell rings, have her parents come get her, suspend her butt for two weeks, or have her kicked out of school.

Quietus October 26, 2015 at 9:59 pm

You are in violation of South Carolina law for distubing schools (a dumb law if you ask me, but still it’s on the books and used all the time). Disobeying the teacher or the officer can be construed as breach of peace which can be treated as a felony and since she resisted getting up she was resisting arrest.

SECTION 16-17-420. Disturbing schools; summary court jurisdiction.

(A) It shall be unlawful:

(1) for any person wilfully or unnecessarily (a) to interfere with or to disturb in any way or in any place the students or teachers of any school or college in this State, (b) to loiter about such school or college premises or (c) to act in an obnoxious manner thereon; or

(2) for any person to (a) enter upon any such school or college premises or (b) loiter around the premises, except on business, without the permission of the principal or president in charge.

(B) Any person violating any of the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and, on conviction thereof, shall pay a fine of not more than one thousand dollars or be imprisoned in the county jail for not more than ninety days.

(C) The summary courts are vested with jurisdiction to hear and dispose of cases involving a violation of this section. If the person is a child as defined by Section 63-19-20, jurisdiction must remain vested in the Family Court.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 10:36 pm

So just to be clear…you support an armed officer throwing around an unarmed student and using excessive force to take of a situation about a phone?

Quietus October 26, 2015 at 10:48 pm

What’s he supposed to do, sit on his ass and play tiddly winks with her? As I stated the law is dumb but yeah he has to enforce it. She didn’t with a lawful order and then she attempted to resist arrest. The new video that came out shows her attempting to throw at least three punches and then to grab his leg in an attempt to throw him on the ground.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 10:49 pm

Any reasonable person would see she’s not throwing punches. She’s trying to defend herself against excessive force.

In any event, the district disagrees and has issued a statement repudiating the actions of the cop and he will never set foot in a school again. The police force has stood him down on admin. leave and Leon Lott has indicated his deep concern at what the video depicts.

I guess they’re all wrong.

Quietus October 26, 2015 at 10:55 pm

Administrative leave is SOP in these cases and you know it. The school district spokespersons statement was that.

“Our District is deeply concerned about an incident that occurred at Spring Valley High School today. The incident took place between a school resource officer employed by the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and a student. Video of the incident is circulating on social media.

“Student safety is and always will be the District’s top priority. The District will not tolerate any actions that jeopardize the safety of our students.

“Upon learning of the incident, school and district administrators began an investigation. We are working closely and in full cooperation with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department to conduct a thorough and complete investigation.

“Pending the outcome of the investigation, the District has directed that the school resource officer not return to any school in the District.”

Not much of a repudiation there just bureaucrat speak for we’re looking in to it now y’all don’t riot, ok?

In other words once the investigation is over and he’s cleared he can comeback.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 11:02 pm

If what he did was ok…why would he be taken off the school resource beat?

Quietus October 26, 2015 at 11:05 pm

He’s not been taken off other than to be on administrative leave. That is why. WIS just stated that it appears that she was resisting.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 11:09 pm

Is that what you do when your 3 year old refuses to brush their teeth?

Quietus October 26, 2015 at 11:11 pm

This was a high school student, not a three year old. What makes you think I have or even want kids, anyway?

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 11:20 pm

The argument is that same. I don’t know or care if you have kids but the logic that applies is that are you going to be outsmarted by a person just sitting in a chair and resort to brute force when it’s obviously uncalled for? Is that the best this officer could do?

Mike at the Beach October 27, 2015 at 12:06 am

Sure.

blueyescrying October 27, 2015 at 10:04 am

Ah yes, because chillin’ on the sidewalk bench while on a mobile phone is the same as chillin’ in the classroom while on a mobile phone. And let me guess, she just had the mobile phone because she couldn’t miss that important business call she had to partake in.

Jackie Chiles October 27, 2015 at 10:17 am

This is nonsense. A classroom is not a “public space” where you’re entitled to freedom of speech, freedom to play on your phone, or various other freedoms you associate with being in public spaces.

Mom October 26, 2015 at 7:24 pm

Yep, the principal asked her to leave the class. She refused. Then the Vice Principal asked her to leave class. She refused. Then the SRO was called to the classroom and he asked her to leave. Let’s remember there were other students in the room trying to get an education. There IS a point when physical force is necessary.

Rocky Verdad October 26, 2015 at 9:31 pm

Taylor, what if you were the one in the chair. If this is how SC wants to police classrooms, we have bigger problems. Isolate her, call her parents, have them remove her and suspend her for two weeks.

Taylor Brown October 26, 2015 at 9:43 pm

That’s not the way the real world works. She wants to be an adult so badly, let’s treat her like an adult. She’s resisting arrest. She assaulted an officer… Soooo yeah, by all means, lets suspend her.

Taylor'sSomething October 27, 2015 at 1:51 am

Do you just make this shit up as you go, Sugar?

Cause what I saw on the video was a brutish display of force that was absolutely out of context with the situation.

What assault? Resisted how?

Ohh, that’s right. You heard from a friend of a friend.. Rigght?

1ginright October 27, 2015 at 5:20 pm

IGNORANT MUCH?

Rocky Verdad October 27, 2015 at 7:41 am

Sort of like the cop who beat the chick in the bar in downtown Columbia last year, treat like an adult that way? Your losing your objectivity because of the officers past assistance to you. You don’t fling kids across classrooms strapped in their desks. This isn’t NASA training.

Daniel Boome October 27, 2015 at 7:59 am

NASA training, Rocky??? Is that what they do there? Sign me up!!!!

CorruptionInColumbia October 27, 2015 at 8:26 am

The POS off-duty Deputy in the bar last year was totally and completely in the wrong. Not only was he grossly intoxicated, the female soldier he tortured at length had done nothing wrong, other than possibly turning away his advances.

These two cases are apples and rocks.

Jackie Chiles October 27, 2015 at 9:50 am

How can you isolate her if you can’t pull her out of the room? I guess maybe the officer could’ve dragged her desk out of the room with her in it or something?

blueyescrying October 27, 2015 at 10:00 am

And exactly how do you isolate her if she refuses to leave the classroom? She had already been asked to leave several times, so how do you make her leave without putting your hands on her? Or do you suggest the rest of the class leave so that this one disruptive individual is isolated? How is that fair to the other students who are there to receive an education? We shouldn’t have to have police in the classrooms, students should know right from wrong and respect for authority should be taught at home.

Taylor Brown October 26, 2015 at 8:24 pm

Apparently the woman in the video punched the SRO…. Just so we’re all clear. This is coming from someone in the class.

Reply
Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 8:26 pm

Taylor Brown October 26, 2015 at 8:28 pm

Check when he’s trying to get her out of her desk. Her hand closest to the camera swings at his head.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 8:29 pm

LMFAO…there’s no punch. What are you talking about? I just see a cop throwing a kid around.

Barry1234 October 26, 2015 at 8:53 pm

I don’t see the student doing much of anything. I also tend to believe, at this point, he went a little overboard.
I also do understand that the student was disrupting her teacher’s plans, and the classroom and when a student refuses to abide by a teacher’s instructions, and a principal’s instructions, an officer might have to be involved. That’s typically going to involve some force because other options have been exhausted.

Quietus October 26, 2015 at 9:55 pm

Strangely all I saw was an officer of the law doing his job after the student was give the opportunity to comply with the teacher, the first administrator, the second administrator and the officer of the law.

TroubleBaby October 26, 2015 at 10:12 pm

How do you know that a first and second administrator were called?

I don’t see that in the story, is there another outlet you are referencing?

Quietus October 27, 2015 at 12:25 am

It was from a student in the class. It was posted on Social Media, I don’t have a way to share it here, but unless they made up that one part of the story that’s the way it went down.

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 7:36 pm

Because you’re argument is that we should be sheeple. Just blithely following and obeying every law and every command by those in authority.
Yet, if you’re on the right…you can not issue marriage certificates, you can pass unconstitutional state laws against legal abortion, etc.

Reply
idcydm October 26, 2015 at 7:44 pm

My argument is not that we should be sheeple. But for the sake of argument, let’s get rid of the SRO and teachers, according to you they don’t need to be obeyed. We’ll let the students teach each other, would that make you happy?

Limbaughsaphatkhunt October 26, 2015 at 7:49 pm

I never said students get to run the school…but even the phraseology of “obey” connotes a biblical context of submission to authority.
What I am suggesting is that throwing a teenager across the room b/c she wouldn’t give up her phone or leave class is excessive.

idcydm October 26, 2015 at 7:52 pm

Like I said straw man, you used the word “obey” I just responded to it in kind.

Mike October 26, 2015 at 7:57 pm

Whinny bitch!

Daniel Boome October 27, 2015 at 7:52 am

You should be really damn careful with these kinds of comparisons. You open your logic up to all sorts of shredding when you find a so-called comparison under every rock to justify not following lawful orders.
If you want to go there on these points, then here you go: There is no law requiring anyone to “issue marriage certificates”. There was merely a ruling on a case involving gay marriage. That’s it. There was nothing more than that. As for abortion, it’s not “constitutional law”, it’s case law. So, even your two so-called analogies are fails.

Thing is…there’s an insurance fund that will eventually have to pay out an undisclosed settlement to the girl and her family. The insurance the district has to carry will increase b/c of this…and come out of our pockets b/c an asshole cop wanted to show an unarmed teenage girl some manners.

The officer is simply incompetent. Even if he couldn’t convince her to get up voluntarily(and I’m not convinced he tried sufficiently by this video, but in time all the facts will come out), his actions were way beyond what someone that is in fighting shape should require to physically remove her from the class.

She disrupted class. The teacher tried to deal with it. The student would not comply and further disturbed school. The teacher called for an administrator and the SRO. The student still failed to comply. He tried to arrest her. She didn’t want to do things the easy way. She chose the hard road.
Political Correctness from the liberal school administrators and the democratic sheriff will lead to this deputy being scapegoated by the system. If he had not acted then it would have led to her believing that her inappropriate actions had not consequences. Now, because of political correctness she will learn that playing the race card will not only benefit her but will punish those that seek to hold her accountable.

Reply
Speak D Truth October 26, 2015 at 8:15 pm

I think the student should have complied with the teacher and never created a situation where the SRO had to be involved. He parents should have jerked a knot in her ass a long time ago and taught her to respect authority.

You didn’t answer my question, so I can only assume you agree.

If that’s the case, regardless of whether this child was disobedient or not, the officer is clearly incompetent in doing his job.

Unless of course you think that the level of violence was needed.

Reply
Speak D Truth October 26, 2015 at 8:36 pm

Ok, as I stated earlier “excessive force” is subjective. So you’ve expressed your opinion that the violence was appropriate.

Here’s what I think is going to happen:

The school/insurance carrier will never let this case reach a court room because they know that most people would probably disagree with your assessment, & they’ll settle.

The taxpayers will foot the bill for this incompetence.

Mark it down.

200lb pussies October 26, 2015 at 9:02 pm

Well, I think we need more context than what we have with this video to answer your question.

But more importantly, I think that the officer has not been taught to respect the establish rules & procedures, nor has discipline and by extension lack respect for authority(his bosses, his training, etc.) as exhibited by his behavior in response.

His behavior was actually worse than the behavior of a petulant child.

The problem with this video, along with all of the most recent ones is the lack of context. In the academy you are taught to “Ask them, tell them, make them” when it comes to making a subject comply. What she is doing is considered “passive resistance,” and is taught to be countered with pressure points near the nose, below the ear, and along the jaw bone.

What this video lacks is enough context on whether those steps were used. If they were, he was correct in increasing the level of force, and if he did not, then he would have some issues with this level of force unless he can explain that it was reasonable (would require more context than this video to determine wrong or right). In any context, why was the officer called? Why couldn’t the teacher or administrators handle? This has to be a problem child that was raised to defy authority.

The lesson that most parents should gather from these instances is that it is best to listen to what an officer is telling you to do. You can challenge it in court and likely win your case (after the fact), but if you try and prove a point on the spot or run,
–you will definitely go jail (pick one: breach of peace, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, failure to comply, interfering with an officer),
–likely get your ass kicked,
–or possibly killed based on your actions.

That is the core of the issue with the most officer involved incidents. All situations begin with verbal commands that people decided to ignore. Agree or disagree, I don’t care. Try it out yourself and see

Let me ask the hard questions no one else wants to:

How many times do I need to ask someone to leave before making them leave? Once? Twice? Three times? Four times? Five times? Six times? Seven times? Eight times? Nine times? Ten times?

(meanwhile students who want to learn have to wait to be taught)

Eleven times? Twelve times? . . . Fifty times?

(meanwhile the bell has rung signaling the end of class — do we just give up now and reward this behavior)

Fifty-one times? Fifty-two times? Fifty-three times?

In all seriousness, at what point can we physically remove someone who will not leave on their own?

If anyone will provide a specific number, I will seriously engage in a conversation about what this officer did wrong.

This is a quick reply: From my experiences at citizen’s classes for law enforcement, Lexington County Sheriff’s Office being one, an officer has a menu of steps he is allowed to use under “use of force” — he should escalate his response based on the behavior of the person under attention. The lowest force is his command (stay in your car) (empty your pockets), and so forth. While on ride-alongs I never witnessed any resistance from anyone stopped and/or questioned. But I will tell you that I did get some training on pressure points and defensive tactics, and that SHIT HURTS! I’ll always be respectful and quiet with an officer — but if I meet an asshole, well, you folks know that I can be sarcastic……

Other officers will take note of this and will be hesitant to act. In the end the misbehaving students will be empowered and have free reign to do as they want without consequence for their actions.

“If anyone will provide a specific number, I will seriously engage in a conversation about what this officer did wrong.”

Assuming that you aren’t going to get a number, I’m still curious what you think the officer did wrong- given you brought it up.

I don’t think many here are suggesting the behavior of the child is in any way acceptable, appropriate, etc.

The issue is simply the officer’s reaction to the child disobedience. Some say it’s acceptable/reasonable, some not.

When violence is used to combat a non-violent “crime”(such as the ordinance that says forbids disruption of schools), it sends the message that violence is how you solve problems, even if those problems themselves are not violent in nature.

This is not a parent spanking their child over disobedience. This is an officer flipping over a desk with the child in it, dragging her across the floor, & then attempting to handcuff her over said disobedience.

As another poster pointed out, any parents doing this very thing to their children in public would 90% be likely thrown in jail if the police witnessed it. But when the police do it, it’s ok. There’s a problem with that.

Reply
QwertyForm22 October 27, 2015 at 10:32 am

The point of my comment is just that — I’m not going to get a number. I’m not going to get a number, because people think it is perfectly acceptable to disregard authority in the hopes that the authority gives up. That is, people don’t care about authority or respect it–this comment addresses the world, generally–not just this situation.

To your points about the overreaction: If you watch the video closely, you see that when the officer first approaches the student she slides her desk back a few feet. Already, she’s indicating she won’t do as she’s being told. In spite of this, the officer asks her multiple times to get up and leave. She does not. Here I have a few more questions just to start a dialogue.

She won’t get up on her own despite repeated questioning–how do people suggest that the officer get her to leave the classroom?

If he tries to pick her up out of her desk, she locks her legs into the desk’s legs and holds the desktop with her hands. What then? Does he pick up the entire desk with her in it?

If he tries to grab only her arms, she locks her legs into the desk’s legs and now she’s halfway out of the desk. What then? Does he pull her out of the classroom with the desk dragging behind her because her legs won’t be dislodged from their hold on the desk?

If he tries to grab her legs only, she maintains her hold on the desktop and now she’s, again, halfway out of the desk. What then? Does he pull her out of the classroom with the desk dragging behind her–her hands still holding on tightly?

Seeing as how many will vote down these alternatives, we are back to my earlier questions. Does the officer simply keep asking nicely until he’s blue in the face? Until the bell rings? Until the school day’s over? Does the officer (or any authority for that matter) just quit after asking 55, 60, 75 times?

“Well, I’ve reached my limit. You win.”

You’re talking about sending the wrong message–so am I. Let’s not send the message that if we resist or ignore authority long enough, it goes away. That’s not a world you want to live in.

And back to my original point: not even you will give me a number.

**FYI — the desk flips over because the student has her legs and feet locked into the base of the desk. Translation: she’s resisting him the whole way through.

Reply
TroubleBaby October 27, 2015 at 10:50 am

“I’m not going to get a number, because people think it is perfectly acceptable to disregard authority in the hopes that the authority gives up.”

Well, after thinking about it I’ve decided on a number:

You ask twice. Once, then if it’s denied, you escalate and say, “I’m going to have to physically remove you if you don’t comply.”

The officer didn’t ask the child twice, nor warn her it was going to get physical. Excessive force is subjective, and when something is subjective and cause of fault is determined, that’s done so democratically(whether that’s right or wrong is a different story).

A jury is most likely going to recognize this is excessive force. I don’t think there are enough people that see her “resisting” as you try to argue and the lack of an explanation of the consequences of the child’s behavior prior to the officers use of violence is going to be what most likely costs the taxpayers money and the officer his career.

Even if violence was the “answer” to this problem, “the people” in general understand the concept of proportionality in justice.

Reply
QwertyForm22 October 27, 2015 at 10:57 am

She was already asked at least once by the teacher to leave. That’s why the officer was summoned.

If you think she was only asked once by the officer, I think you need to watch the video again. I here at least two commands to leave. This also ignores the additional fact that the video recording starts AFTER the officer has entered the room.

Neither of us know what was said before the recording started and after he entered the room. We’ll have to wait for those facts. Logic tells me, however, that the student moving her desk backward was not in response to silence. So, by my count I’d wager that she was asked at least three times.

How do you proportionally remove someone from a desk? Do you lead them by the hand?

You certainly have a wealth of critiques regarding the situation. That’s fine. We can all reasonably disagree about those. The import of my questions is alternatives. If you’re not willing to offer up SPECIFIC alternatives, then your critiques are completely unhelpful.

If she’s not resisting, then why does she not come straight up out of the desk when he tries to pick her up? As you said, he’s twice her size. He should have picked her clean up out of the desk. Instead, the desk moves in concert with her body. That doesn’t happen unless some part of her person is attached to the desk…

TroubleBaby October 27, 2015 at 11:05 am

“I think you need to watch the video again.”
“I here at least two commands to leave.”

I only hear one, with no warning of what’s coming afterwards.

” If you’re not willing to offer up SPECIFIC alternatives, then your critiques are completely unhelpful.”

I have suggested alternatives, you’ve missed them. (and lots of other people here too have alternatives, including “The Colonel” who’s actually an apologist for the officer)

“As you said, he’s twice her size.”

More specifically, he’s trained in deploying specific violence, one would assume he’s also trained in specific SRO duties, like handling petulant children, escalation, etc.

I think the litmus test for this situation is this:

Would this video be used as a training video for future SRO’s on “what to do” or “what not to do”?

QwertyForm22 October 27, 2015 at 11:14 am

I said SPECIFIC alternatives. I’ll concede, for the sake of discussion, that he asked only once and didn’t explain that he would use force (putting aside the fact that I’m aware of no law requiring him to spell out in detail what he’s about to do).

So, with my concession in hand, we’re left with how he removed her from the desk.

How would you have removed her from the desk with specific violence? Tell me where you would start. How would you remove this student from the desk “peacefully?”

I’m not being flippant with these questions. I really am curious. And no more generalizations. Get specific with me. I’ve conceded your first point for the sake of discussion. Grant me the same intellectual courtesy and be truly specific.

TroubleBaby October 27, 2015 at 1:47 pm

“How would you have removed her from the desk with specific violence?”

I never claimed that it wouldn’t require violence, but we don’t know if it was required because there was no 2nd warning, no escalation or explanation- just an explosion.

But further, even if violence was required- the question is one of proportionality.

My contention is that a 200 pound plus officer trained in how to dispense violence effectively should have been able to remove her from the class without the desk flipping, throwing/dragging, & subsequent back pressure EVEN if violence was necessary. (which we don’t know)

You think it’s proportional and necessary, I don’t and would gather a majority do not and given that excessive force is a subjective charge the majority will prevail if it goes to a court room.(for better or worse)

You and I can’t argue on something subjective, because opinions are just that. I wish there was an objective form of violence measuring on some sort of proportionality scale, but there isn’t- it’s just opinion.

“I’ve conceded your first point for the sake of discussion.”

Well don’t concede it for “the sake of discussion”.

Explain to me what video you watched that led you to say:

“In spite of this, the officer asks her multiple times to get up and leave. She does not.”

Uh she resisted arrest. And without knowing what is actually on her that could be used as a weapon (hard to Terry frisk someone sitting in a desk). I would say she was restrained with minimum force neccesary to ensure she couldn’t harm the deputy. And maybe if her parents had taught her to comply with a lawful order then maybe she wouldn’t have been snatched up.I also think its fair to say she’s probably never been snatched up for anything before which resulted in the behavior that led to the incident. I’ll bet her parents won’t focus on preventing their darling angel from getting herself into a situation like this again .. They will probably tell her she was an angel. This will result in a future of many arrest in her future! Good job people focus on things you know nothing about and ignore that the student of highschool age resisted arrest. Has anyone mentioned her age yet? Bet not..

Agreed, SRO’s don’t just “appear” in classrooms almost 100% chance he was summoned there by the teacher or some other administrator.

If she refused to get up and leave the classroom in an orderly fashion can someone explain what the officer was supposed to do?

Once you are told you are being placed under arrest if you refuse to “stand up and put your hands behind your back” what options does the officer have?

Hmmmm . . . the video was sort of tough to watch – and you are making all sorts of judgments about the young lady without knowing her or her family – which makes me not agree too much with you. With that said, I guess times have just changed too much for me to try to understand this situation – when I went to school if the teacher – much less a resource officer, which we did not have – told you to do something, you did it. I cannot recall a single instance in 12 years of public school where a teacher told someone to leave the classroom and they did not leave – folks just always did what the teacher said. I do not know the young lady and do not know the officer – looks like a lot of force to me just from watching the video clip BUT not knowing any previous history and not knowing the entire circumstances I am withholding judgment. Just tough to watch. Your post goes too far in judging the young lady and her family as much as some of the other posts go too far in judging the officer – we were not there and none of us know the entire situation. Cameras and videos are great – they just do not always give the entire picture of a dramatic situation. Again, just tough to watch.

Just saying “teenage girl” evokes images of Taylor Swift concerts, selfies and Justin Bieber. Tantrum fits so well with the stereotype. If it was only that simple. If just identification as a teenage girl told you all you needed to know.

Different times for us, BT, but the cops knew all the kids in the neighborhood and they would take us home. Of course, we never acted like these kids do today.

Staying with my Grandmother in Mississippi when my Dad was in Korea, I got the lecture from her, and when my Mom got home I got another lecture and a whipping! However, as of today, my record is still no indictments and no convictions (hands clasped in grateful appreciation).

Discussing issues like this with my cousins got us to the same conclusion — our parents, and their examples combined with a loving home was our salvation. My kids and my grandkids have the same, and we are fortunate that they also did not hang out with the wrong people. There is plenty of room in our world for goodness and beauty.

I’m not foolish enough to believe that the good ole days were better than today. There is a bias towards our youth. But there was a certain constancy between the values I got from family, church, school and even television.

If Andy Taylor lived in my town, he would not have stood out as anyone unusual. There were a lot of Andy Taylor’s looking out for me. I didn’t appreciate it then.

I really didn’t pay much attention to it until later, but he told me that if I was going to get into a troubling situation try to do it alone. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about a buddy being a witness, and I wouldn’t have to lie for him if it came to that. None of my low crimes and misdemeanors to date are on any booking sheet….. and aren’t you glad for me — because I’m here with you guys (and Taylor) …!!

Reply
shifty henry October 27, 2015 at 12:07 am

BT, interesting you mention that, because you just brought back to me something I learned in high school! An experiment was given to some of us in psychology class that proved your statement. The more people in a crowd the more they will go along with whatever is happening. It goes on all the time — sporting events, the beach, parties, and more recently the tragedies in fraternity hazing in colleges all around the US.
Another example: my Mississippi period again (my Dad in Korea) when one of my cousins and I had the freedom of the day and night in the city (we were never bothered by anybody) and our moms and our grandmothers only wanted us on the front porch at breakfast!
The difference between us — he was the leader and instigated our “adventures” and I just followed (we are same age) but we never got into any big trouble. In fact, about five years ago I went throughout Dixie to see all of my still living cousins. This one now lives in Mobile and owns a successful manufacturing business. One of the things I told him as we “relived” some of our memories, was that two more years together and we both would have criminal records! His wife was almost shocked at our tales… (heh) (heh)….

Well folks this cop is GONE, he will no longer be SRO in ANY schools and is on administration hold, which I hope some of you already know mean he’s under investigation. Now the likely hood is for himself he won’t see anything other than a termination at the most. That’s just the sad part, now before anyone of you especially the mole here gets excited because you some how feel this domestic terrorist cop, and before you start writing your back butt narrative read what a domestic terrorist is. You’ll be surprised to see what he did was terrorized.
But anyway I’m not here to defend this teenager but there were a 100 things that could of happened. That were at there exposure and the former cop should have done to defuse this and made the former cop look good doing it. But he chose the terroristic method sadly the taxpayers are accustomed to watching. We are the true ones accountable for morons like this because of law suits, again sadly this girl and her family are going to win. The school knows this the city know this and the police knows this. Regardless how you feel until you sanction the crap out of your police and have an over sight committee with full disclosure with teeth higher than attorney general all in which are within the people’s power. So you don’t have cops investigating cops <~~~Really how stupid us that. I sure there's people out here remember the days of wait till you dad/mom comes home. Or if they just called mom or dad up and came to that class. But to snatched a one piece desks flip on top of her and you have moles in here pushing cop narrative of what fear of my life. Comply lick my boots, stop resisting that what people are sick of. This former cop had a chance to do the right thing and like this girl choose not to. Seriously you father's out there watch that video, to me I don't look at it like a color thing you daughter just got slammed with the desk. What are going to do that the sad part.

I can tell from the way you wrote this you aren’t from South Carolina. This happened in an unincorporated part of Richland County. The school district and the sheriff’s office handle this. The city isn’t involved in anyway and administrative leave doesn’t mean he’s gone. That’s pretty standard around here when investigating use of force situations. I’d address the rest of your long post about nothing but it’s basically nonsense so I won’t drop to that level.

This sociopathic deputy is a student of Sheriff Leon Lott school of law enforcement, acquired by him in Israel. The Mossad, the infamous torture experts, have sponsored many of our top law & order leaders with ” vacations ” there. Leon Lott, a bonafide psychopath & international war criminal, has trained many terrorists in Iraq & Syria at the behest of President Obama, Senators Mccain & Graham. At $500,000 for 5 terrorists, Lott should be a multi-millionaire. All government officials & military personnel endowed with a license to kill should have a college degree earned at an accredited college. And when they stray from the plantation maximum penalties will be inflicted. Incidentally, Sheriff Lott should forthwith be reprimanded to the Hague for prosecution.

If this is over some stupid cellphone violation, then this SRO used poor judgement.

This video is released on the the same day that the FBI Director claims that video of police actions is somehow causing the police to not do their jobs. What a joke. This video, and the hundreds that we have witnessed over the last 24 months, is simply evidence that sometimes the police are in the wrong. I realize that there are many more other incidents in which are not wrong and are justified in using the full force of the powers.

I don’t think that removing some punk student who may a school cellphone violation with a beatdown is appropriate law enforcement technique.

Another way to handle this could have been for the SRO, after multiple requests for the perp to voluntarily submit to arrest, to simply exit the classroom. This would give the perp and the students the false idea that somehow the perp had won. The SRO can wait outside the classroom door for the perp to appear and then apprehend the perp. If there is time, the SRO can summon administration personnel or even additional law enforcement to wait outside the door with him.

If school teachers and school administrators and the colleges of education that train them to teach and manage students and schools had not forgotten how to manage classrooms and students from kindergarten through 12th grade, stuff like this wouldn’t happen.

Really, is refusing to give up a cell phone the criminal offense of ‘disturbing a school’?

The individual who decided to send the cop to that room to handle something as trivial as this deserves to be on suspension pending the conclusion of an investigation, too.

Parents of students at Spring Valley High School are already reacting to the video. A group calling themselves the Richland Two Black Parents Association called the video “egregious” and “unacceptable.”

Well there is another group at Richland 2 calling themselves white parents association and call the video “necessary” and “proper.”

Our children and all children deserve to have an uninterrupted education from this student or any student that chooses not to follow instructions. Instead of attacking the deputy for doing what the teacher, the principal and administrator could not or would not do, we need to demand answers from this student on her action and from her parents on why she defies authority. Could it be that this student has was raised to be racist against whites or any authority? I pray that Leon Lott does not throw this deputy to the wolves for removing this student from a class room that essentially she was holding the class hostage from learning. If children had respect for teachers and other students and parents were more involved in their children’s lives, there would it be a need to have deputies put in schools.

His own boss put him on unpaid administration leave, that’s a sign that he’s getting fired, the kids and parents who were in the classroom are not saying what you saying on cnn. But I am waiting for fox news to see if they’ll jump on this but I don’t know.
But worst thing for him is the FBI is involved plus his past has been lit up for all to see which is sort of the narrative here excessive force. But I don’t know at first I thought he would just get a slap on the wrist but it’s looking like he’s going to be charged here. Either way his career is finished and I think from what people are saying on cnn, that SRO’S will be booted out of the school or SRO’S going to be sanctioned heavily.

This is how far the officer tried to have the student to move from her seat. and after the teacher and another teacher asked her to leave, “He asked her again, ‘will you move, will you move.’ She said ‘no I have not done anything wrong.’ Then he said I’m going to treat you fairly. And she said ‘I don’t even know who you are.’ … And that is where it started right there.”
