Clemson put a 58-0 thrashing on the University of Miami this weekend in Miami Gardens, Florida this weekend – dealing the “U” the worst loss in the ninety-year history of its storied program.
The Tigers’ blowout victory – combined with a Florida State loss to Georgia Tech – puts Clemson firmly in command of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Assuming the team runs the table (including a November 7 date with the Seminoles at Memorial Stadium), the Tigers should comfortably win a spot in the second annual college football playoff.
And based on the way Dabo Swinney‘s team is playing, don’t expect them to start losing once they get there …
As much as it pains us to say it (being lifelong fans of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks), truth is truth … Clemson is a legitimate national championship contender.
And anybody who says different is either blind, biased or not being honest with themselves ….
Deshaun Watson, Wayne Gallman and Artavis Scott are driving an offensive juggernaut that’s left Morris’ 2014 unit in the dust – while Shaq Lawson, Kevin Dodd and Mackenzie Alexander lead the No. 4 defense in the country.
That’s right – despite losing two of its 2014 starters to the first round of the NFL draft – Clemson’s defense is still ranked No. 4 in the nation.
Meanwhile Gallman and Watson are spearheading the nation’s No. 24 rushing offense – a vast improvement over last year’s ground game, which ranked No. 88 nationally. That’s made it far easier for Watson to pick apart opposing secondaries, which he’s done en route to a 69.3 completion percentage and 157.1 quarterback rating.

The formula has been simple: Clemson has acquired talent (consistently out-recruiting its in-state rivals in Columbia, S.C.). It has developed talent. And now it is displaying talent … all over the field.

Clemson has 2 games left against teams with a winning record. A mediocre NC State Team and a FSU team that proved they were overrated yesterday.
Sounds like a perfect path to the playoffs for Clemson.
N.C. State is 5-2. FSU lost but so did Utah against USC. Both lines in my opinion were very interesting. FSU at -6 and Utah at +3.5 and both turned out to be wrong but still Vegas saw those two teams could be in some trouble and they were.
Clemson just needs to keep winning. Doesn’t matter who we play to close out the regular season as we have no control over that or how good/bad those teams are. Whether it’s by 2 points or by 58…just gotta keep winning.
Personally, I am looking forward to closing out the regular season against an SEC opponent and I hope we can get a date in the natty game against the best the SEC has to offer.
