STATE, LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT NAMED AS DEFENDANTS …

A lawsuit has been filed in Richland County, S.C. that could have major implications on the debate over gambling in South Carolina.

Details of the suit weren’t immediately available, but sources tell FITS it was filed by LW Flynn – the owner of “Magic Minutes.”  That’s the company which operates the video “sweepstakes” games South Carolina lawmakers have been trying to eliminate as part of their efforts to preserve the state’s monopoly on gambling.

Flynn’s home was reportedly the target of this 2013 raid – conducted not long after the S.C. General Assembly passed an updated law seeking to ban his sweepstakes machines.

Named as defendants in the action?  The S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), its chief Mark Keel and several of his agents.  Also named?  Spartanburg S.C. Sheriff Chuck Wright and several of his deputies.

This could get interesting …

As we’ve said repeatedly, we believe the state should legalize all forms of gambling, and we reject efforts by hypocritical “anti-gambling” politicians to use the long arm of the law to maintain their stranglehold on the industry.  Or worse.

Anyway, we hope to have details on Flynn’s lawsuit soon …

Did anybody even notify the guy that got raided that he was in possible violation of a newly enacted law? He’s not engaged in human trafficking or other serious shit. Law enforcement is too eager to escalate the situation through violence. This is a major problem in modern day America. If they had given the guy notice with ample time to go into compliance, and then just had some officers to stake out, they could have given him plenty of rope and let him either hang himself or pull himself out of the quicksand.

No wonder why more and more people are losing faith in the justice system.

So what violence was escalated? Flynn was notified in May that his machines were illegal and the “raid” took place in February – not real eager on the part of law enforcement if you ask me. Flynn’s tortured definition of gambling says it all: ” Gambling, he has said, means a person pays money with no guarantee of winning or receiving a product”.

No Mr Flynn, gambling means putting your money out there in a product you know is illegal and hoping you won’t be called into account for it.

“He’s not engaged in human trafficking or other serious shit.”
How about corruption of elected officials?

“If they had given the guy notice with ample time to go into compliance…”

Or tip off elected officials so they could cover their tracts.

“How about corruption of elected officials?”

You can’t buy your license plate or drivers license at Food Lion or Walmart, so what is your point?

saying ‘all forms of gambling should be legal’ is a typically thoughtless response of a so-called ‘conservative’ or libertarian. gambling is a very complex problem, but self-labeled ‘conservatives’ prefer not to think about complex problems and favor responses that can fit on a bumper sticker. as with drugs and alcohol, even prostitution, we are doing better than most societies by taking a very complicated and sometimes even contradictory approach. the world is a complex place. thank goodness most of the ‘conservatives’ live far away in the middle east.

You are in agreement with most US conservatives.

“thank goodness most of the ‘conservatives’ live far away in the middle east.”

THAT, is a funny as hell line.

Freedom itself isn’t that complicated- the notion that the government should be undertaking the endeavor of preventing people from harming themselves is laughable, especially in the face of other things it supposed is tasked with doing, like building/fixing roads, providing clean water, etc., et al.

In the least for those who are statists, the least they could do is focus on the “basics” before undertaking unwinnable wars using taxpayer money.

Flynn runs the Crack Cocaine of Gambling.
He should be tarred and feathered and run out of the State on a Rail.
A rotten human being of the worse kind.

As a former employee of our fine s.c. education lottery(for over six years). I will tell you to look up anywhere the salaries of some very unqualified people who by chance and circumstance have tripled their salaries in less than ten years from under 40,000 to over 140,000 (for a small example)with no more experience than calling the vendor (three vendors dictate Who Like Castro) to fix the problem ( and only hoping they can fix it quick) and being stinking drunk when they called. On paper they meet the minimum qualifications,on record they meet the qualifications of a very sorry dog poop reclaimer . And Paula H. Bethea is a camera whore who will shove you out the way for a photo opportunity. Between the camera whore and the folks across the street they have completely changed the original idea to high salaries and anything that will sell(see all new games(odds are slim to win)1,000,000,000 and counting.F’ing McDonalds with a crack habit setting.
