Columbia, S.C. councilwoman Leona Plaugh is one of the only members of her municipal government who puts the best interests of citizens and taxpayers first.
Unfortunately, the vast majority of “leaders” in the South Carolina state capital subscribe to a different philosophy. And because these ethically challenged officials are the ones running the show … the city is suffering.
Anyway, complicating the situation is the fact Plaugh has cancer …
As we noted back in July, she was in Houston, Texas as doctors continued to do battle with the disease. After discovering a lump in her right thigh in May 2014, Plaugh underwent surgery at Emory University Hospital last August. Throughout her cancer treatment and surgery, though, Plaugh hasn’t slowed down one bit when it comes to taking care of constituents and standing up to the city’s liberal leaders.
Through all sorts of pain and distraction, she’s been able to keep focused and keep doing her job.
She’s also sought to participate remotely at meetings of the council to which she was duly elected.
Blocking her at every turn, though? Steve Benjamin, the city’s notoriously corrupt mayor.
Well, this week sources tell us Plaugh will be making a major announcement regarding her cancer – and sadly, we’re told the announcement is not a good one.
We don’t have details, but we’ll bring you what we know when we know it …
In the meantime, our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Plaugh and her friends and family. We would also urge Benjamin to summon some humanity and stop trying to block Plaugh’s participation in city government.
Agree or disagree with her pro-taxpayer positions (and we enthusiastically agree), her willingness to continue working for the good of the citizens against odds like this should be greeted with respect – not road blocks – from her fellow city leaders.

Let’s remember that Mayor Steve Benjamin blocked her efforts to participate in city council meetings via Skype from her hospital bed bc he is on opposing sides on most issues. There’s a special place in hell for him.
There really is nothing to like about that guy. I try to find something positive in everyone but have yet to discover anything about him.
Former Mayor Milkman says he’s a nice guy. Everyone loves Mayor Milkman and takes him for his word, always.
Fat, lying, back stabbing tub of shit is about the nicest thing I could think to say about him.
That sucks that she’s having to go through such a hard time. The folks at Emory know their stuff though so at least she’s in good hands.
The best, most valuable member of City Council is deminished by disease while the worst take advantage. That’s why we call him Mayor Shitwater. I’m praying for a full recovery for Councilwoman Plaugh.
Hasn’t he hurt enough people yet, including his own wife and family, all of his ‘friends’ who got charged with fraud, the reputation of the city, and the now entire city of Columbia with this water catastrophe? He should not even think of running again, or there will be an ‘anyone but Mayor Shitwater’ campaign against him that will draw bi-partisan, bi-racial, bi-polar, bi-cycle, bi-pedal, and bi-sexual support, it will truly unite us into ‘One Columbia’–against HIM. Joe Azar has done more for people during this flood than anyone–and more for all of us by suing successfully to put an end to this raid on millions each year that should have been put into the water/sewer system, why did it take so long for anyone to do what he managed to accomplish? Well, the party is over, the strippers have gone home, and now the real-real begins.
Clearly, the man has no conscience and no regard for the reputation of his city or himself. He clings to the spotlight like his life depends upon it. Let us all do whatever may be necessary to relegate this loser to the dark he so richly deserves.
Why isn’t the media all over Mayor Benjamin for 11DAYS WITHOUT CLEAN WATER! Yes, we had a flood – but let’s face it, floods are the natural cycle of life. The City of Columbia should have been proactive, not reactive.
She had her leg amputated and is now cancer free.
One tough lady. I’ve been through it and know how hard it is, and she still has the strength to deal with these buffoons, the stress must’ve been unbearable. I’m proud she’s my council member.
She’s a fighter in a bubba-mans world. Glad she’s healthier, and able to get back to screwing the tax payers like the rest of the Columbia political family cronies.
Didn’t you read the article? She’s one of the few non-corrupt politicians who strives to represent her constituency. And she’s NOT from a political family.
