The University of South Carolina may have found a way to stop Leonard Fournette after all … by not playing the Heisman Trophy frontrunner.
According to USC athletics director Ray Tanner, a decision will be made within the next 24 hours regarding whether to play this week’s scheduled game between the Gamecocks and Fournette’s seventh-rank Louisiana State University Tigers.
“We are not 100 percent sure at this time that we will have a game at Williams-Brice,” Tanner told reporters Tuesday.
The stadium is reportedly in good shape following this week’s unprecedented flooding in South Carolina, but Tanner is concerned about people attempting to travel to the game.
(Like … the Gamecock defense).
He’s also worried about law enforcement personnel being taken away from more pressing recovery efforts in order to handle traffic at the game.
One possibility? Playing in another city …
Earlier this week the school announced that the Southeastern Conference contest was “scheduled to be played as planned,” although officials said they would be monitoring flood conditions as well as road and bridge closings across the state.
“All parties continue to monitor the situation and the schools and SEC office remain in communication in the aftermath of the storm and flooding in the Midlands area,” the athletics department said in a statement.
USC has already cancelled its classes for the remainder of the week …
The Gamecocks (2-3, 0-3 SEC) are looking for their first conference win of the season against Fournette and the Tigers (4-0, 2-0 SEC).
UPDATE: It’s official. South Carolina will play LSU in Baton Rouge.

Funny that FITSNews is BASHING the USC Defense NOW!!!…
When us knowledgeable Fans – who actually want to see SC win – Demanded Spurrier FIRE Every Defensive coach, last year…FITS and The State Newspaper BEGGED Spurrier to retain the staff.
Now your ignorance is now manifesting…but you are running from it…surprising
The defense sucks. Only an complete moron with no knowledge or experience in playing the game such as yourself would avoid that simple fact – idiot.
Duh…Dumbass
Despite having a fresh influx of talent (I. Johnson, Sawyer, Qua Lewis), how has that change in the head man of the defense worked out? Yeah, it was all Ward’s fault, right? I’ll give a pat on the back for saying Spurrier would eventually make FITS look stupid….oh wait…
So you’re DOUBLING down on your Dick-suck of Lorenzo Ward, Deke Adams, Botkin and Brown???
I did not think you could any more fucking stupid than you did last year…
Hey idiot, what did I say last year? Tell me if you know. But you don’t, you just pretend like you do so you can tear down straw men like liberals typically do. I know what you said and all you talked about was Ward, you never said anything about the defensive coaches. Well, Spurrier put somebody new in charge (at your request) and look how things are (even with better players). You’re just a dumbass and we all know and you know that we all know, so you get pissed and make up as much bullshit as you possibly can. The program is a disaster at this point and it’s not going to get better under Spurrier. This has nothing to do with the defensive coaches. If you’re so damn smart, you would have called for Spurrier and the offensive coaches to resign. You do realize that Arkansas St score double the amount that we did on Missouri?
So the knowledgeable fans demanded the defensive staff be fired? Wow, you’re a football whiz!!!!
But what happened? None were fired. Why? Well….the head coach controls that.
Now where are we?
MoRON!
There is something to be said for attempting to restore some sense of normalcy as quickly as possible. Playing the game at WillyB would go a long way towards that. I personally think they should go ahead an play the game unless it would create a serious life safety issue.
It will. Anyone forced to watch another horrible performance by what Spurrier is calling a defense will give me a stroke.
Take a baby aspirin before watching the game. That’s supposed to help if you have a stroke or heart attack. For that matter alcohol is a great blood thinner, that’s usually how I survive watching the Gamecocks play.
I will be having my traditional fried chicken party Nov. 14. GO GATORS!!!!!
— which is exactly we did after 9/11
It would be hard taking all of the Law Enforcement and EMS personnel away from the flood recovery efforts. They would be playing football less than 5 miles from people that could be dead or dying in their homes. It is unlikely that the eastern Bluff Rd and Garners Ferry Rd area will be out from under water by then.
The Panthers have a bye this week. Maybe they could move it to Charlotte.
Save everyone the headache. Lamecocks should just forfeit the game (going to get asses handed to them anyway) and donate the money to the flood relief.
Lets look at this rationally. . . .there are dozens and dozens of officers handling traffic control for home games. Most of those officers have not slept for a week. Do we really want to divert these resources away from helping homeless and delivering emergency supplies just to direct traffic for a football game? Let’s just add a mess on top of an existing mess. Move the game. Doesn’t matter where, but it is just stupid to have a major event such as this at a time when we have better things for our emergency services personnel to be dealing with.
Cause ‘Murica
I’m guessing Charlotte or Atlanta, unless SC agreed to go to USC and then they could swap the date back to us the next time we are scheduled to go there. That would eliminate the necessity of SC paying for the cost of the game at the “neutral” venue.
If the Gamecocks have a chance of winnning, they should play the game.
Even if Nunez has to wear Water Wings.
I don’t care where, but they have to play. LSU is already short 1 game on their record. There is nothing I would like better than to see USC get some inspiration from these hard times and kick Tiger ass.
I bet you buy Powerball tickets because of the favorable odds.

The only thing up in the air is where, the outcome not so much…but I understand your motives.
My suggestion to Ray Tanner is to just go ahead and cede the victory to LSU to get an extra week to prepare for the powerhouse Vandy Commodores.
I was thinking the same thing. :)
Tanner is concerned about people attempting to travel to the game.
(Like … the Gamecock defense).
Has the Gamecock defense even attempted to travel to any games since UNC?
*Asks innocently*
“We aren’t the only 2-3 SEC team.”
The OBC is starting to sound like Tommy Bowden
Our first responders are stretched thin enough without having to figure out how to pull enough for a football game. I personally would love to see them play, however, wee have to get out priorities in order and take care of our state. Football will always be here. Saving and protecting lives has to come first.
I am currently on the West Coast and would love a delay so I an host and watch when I come back after the floods -Harris
That’s why we haven’t seen a picture of him in the State fighting the floods !!
Normal a photo op Pastides would not miss, I.e. Handing out bottles of water to students,
Unplugging a toilet or saving a squirrel from drowning ( on the beloved Horse Shoe) of course.
