The Atlanta Fed’s GDPNow model just downgraded expectations for third quarter growth in the US economy.
In a big way.
On Thursday, the latest update to the Atlanta Fed’s nowcast — which takes in current economic data, and unlike most Wall Street estimates and other forecasts, doesn’t factor in future expected data and potential seasonal adjustments — sees third quarter GDP growth clocking in at 0.9%.

The U.S. added 142,000 new jobs in September, a disappointing figure that fell well below expectations. The Federal Reserve will be closely scrutinizing the unexpected drop off in hiring as it mulls the first rate hike in nearly a decade.
The headline unemployment rate held steady 5.1%, according to figures released by the U.S. Labor Department, but the labor force participation rate fell slightly to 62.4% from the prior month, another ominous sign that usually suggests discouraged job seekers are no longer even looking for work.
Economists had forecast 203,000 new jobs and that the unemployment rate would remain at 5.1%.
Even worse, wages fell slightly from August to $25.09 per hour in September, down 1 cent. Wages rose 9 cents per hour in August, suggesting an upward trend. Apparently that was temporary. Wage growth has been cited as perhaps the key indicator being watched by the Fed for signs of sustained vitality in the U.S. economy. They didn’t get it in September.

Never understood the whole bread and milk thing. That would be the two last things I wanted if I were stranded inside for a period of several days. Beer and pizza would the far more preferable duo for just about anybody. I rarely drink or eat pizza, but if I’m gonna be inside for more than 24 hours then that’s what I want.
Milk and bread are two of the main ingredients in french toast. Add eggs and you’re basically done.
Lake Murray is toast. The wide open flood gates will not handle the volume. In fact, we could have a failure of the dam at Lake Murray. If we do get 10 inches of rain, SC’s dam and reservoir system will completely fail. Hope you all see that.
