|| By FITSNEWS || U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney says his Palmetto State colleague – U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina – would make an excellent compromise candidate for majority leader of the House of Representatives.
Assuming it comes to that …
“If there is a race for majority leader, and it becomes something that we can’t settle easily, and it becomes something divisive, Trey is someone that I think a lot of folks can rally behind as a sort of fall back position,” Mulvaney told Politico.
Gowdy is being courted by several GOP lawmakers to take the place of current majority leader Kevin McCarthy, a liberal “Republican” from California who is viewed as the favorite to succeed outgoing U.S. Speaker John Boehner.
“He’s not actively running,” Mulvaney added. “He’s saying, ‘Look, if this doesn’t work out, come talk to me.’ I’m not whipping for him, he doesn’t have a campaign team.”
Interesting …
UPDATE: Gowdy’s out.
