|| By FITSNEWS || John Boehner – a fiscal liberal and serial accommodator of U.S. president Barack Obama – will resign his position as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives at the end of October, according to The New York Times.
“Boehner made the announcement in an emotional meeting with his fellow Republicans on Friday morning,” Times’ scribe Jennifer Steinhauer reported.
Wait … Boehner cried? Again? LOLz.
This website has repeatedly rebuked Boehner as a good-for-nothing drunk who has done nothing but roll over for Obama from the day “Republicans” retook the House in 2011. The debt ceiling debate? He caved. The fiscal cliff? He caved. Obamacare defunding? He caved. Obama’s executive amnesty? Again … he caved.
All while his “Republicans” continued the profligate spending that has our national debt approaching the $18.5 trillion mark.
Astoundingly, one of the Speaker’s aides told Politico reporter Jake Sherman that Boehner was “proud of what this majority has accomplished.”
We’re sure Obama is proud of what they’ve accomplished, too …
Earlier this year, we called on the Palmetto State’s “conservative” GOP congressional delegation to vote against Boehner, calling it a “gut check” vote. Unfortunately only one of them – U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan – did so.
Earlier this year, U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows launched an effort to boot Boehner, although he received no support from his fellow “Republicans.”
Boehner’s resignation comes amid the latest shutdown drama in the nation’s capital – in which GOP lawmakers are threatening to shut down the government (well, 17 percent of it) unless Democrats agree to defund taxpayer-subsidized abortion provider Planned Parenthood.

IL and WI are very vulnerable for the GOP. NH is a potential pickup for Democrats and PA could become one as well. FL is open so it will be a target for Dems as well. The Democrats up in 2016 were elected in 2010, a terrible year for Democrats, so they should be tough to beat in a Presidential year.

So here’s a question. The budget aside – OK – that’s done. Can Boehner in October take the Immigration bill from 2013/2014 and submit, or resubmit it as an active bill, and bring it to a vote? Because if he did, and Nancy helped to pass it, then in the Senate, McConnell could easily get 60 votes to allow it to be voted on (thinking McCain, Flake, Ayotte, Johnson, Kirk, Graham, Toomey, Scott, Rubio, Sessions of TX, McConnell himself, Rand Paul, Collins, Coates, Portman) and then to pass say, 47 Dems and 4 moderate GOPPERS who desperately are trying to get re-elected (Johnson of WI, Toomey of PA, Lil’ Debbie of NH, Kirk of IL – I point this out because Kirk and and Toomey have huge Latino populations in Chicago and Philly respectively, and to a lesser degree Johnson in Milwaukee) – but could that happen? No….once a legislative session ends, a proposed bill is dead. It must be re-initiated just as the original bill was in a subsequent session of Congress.
Now could they take the bill as it is and run it through the same process with absolutely no changes? Sure…but it does not get any special treatment or expedited analysis simply because it is identical to its prior 2013 version? No, a the bill must go through committee and run up through the channels as if it were a novel idea. i.e. starting from scratch, save for the digital text of the 2013 version.

That said, this doesn’t mean he can’t “ram” a bill through Congress, if the “powers that be” want to support the extra effort. But Congress will not have any procedural help with its timeliness purely based upon the fact that the proposed bill was originally drafted in 2013.

Technically the bill must be initiated in the House before it can go to the Senate.
Remember that issue arose during Obamacare fight Version 1.0.
But I’m not sure that’s true. The Gang of Eight bill went from Senate to House, and as I recall, all Boehner had to do was put it up for a vote. Isn’t there some mechinism (you seem to have a lot of knowledge here) – whereby you can ask for a floor vote on a Senate bill?
The Obamacare issue was based on the Origination Clause which requires all bills to begin with the House (if for raising revenue). I’ve not read the contents of the immigration bill….but if any facet of the bill enabled some taxing power, then it would be subject to this clause (article I, section 7).
That said, the senate could (in theory) strip the bill of any language regarding taxes and then initiate the bill.
However, these days, bills are so loaded with extraneous crap that there is often some element of a proposed bill that provides for raising revenue; ergo the Origination clause would apply.
I read it and it was a no tax bill I think. There were “fees” associated with getting your legal status, and repayment of “back taxes” already owed, but no new taxes. So the play would have to be, McConnell brings it up, which he’s locked down the RINOs and Dems anyway, send it to Boehner, who could either make amendments (which would require a conference and so they wouldn’t do that) or Nancy P could request an up-or-down vote, or Boehner could call for a floor vote, and it could pass. But based on your excellent knowledge – the only way really to do it is to send it from the Senate. Thank you.
