FRONTRUNNER SUPPORTED BY FORMER CANDIDATE
|| By FITSNEWS || Fifth-term Democratic S.C. Rep. Leon Stavrinakis received the endorsement of one of his former competitors in the race for mayor of Charleston, S.C. this week.
Stavrinakis, the odds-on favorite to win the seat, received the endorsement of former city councilman Paul Tinkler – who dropped out of contention earlier this month.
“I have decided that Leon Stavrinakis is the best choice for mayor,” Tinkler said. “Leon has a long and proven record of getting things done. I know Leon, as a lifelong resident of West Ashley, will be a fierce advocate for the revitalization of our community and will work to improve both the commercial and residential districts. Leon is the best candidate to finish 526, ease traffic congestion and bring success to all of our neighborhoods.”
Wait … finish Interstate 526?
Really?
Anyway …
Also running for this office are local businesswoman Ginny Deerin (who ran unsuccessfully for S.C. Secretary of State last year), local businessman John Tecklenburg, Charleston city councilman William Dudley Gregorie and businessman and community leader Maurice Washington.
Joe Riley has served as Charleston’s mayor since December 1975. The 72-year-old politician announced last year he would step down at the end of his tenth term.

Good to see you are back at it, Will. Had some of us worried.
Did you know Facebook went down for about 20 minutes today, a little after noon? Did you do that? pogo is calling the other tin foil hatters to get that rumor started.
I heard pogo was going to upgrade his security, he’s going to change his password to “password123” now.
“A is for Apple” …..
Leon has this in the bag. He’ll be good for Charleston.
What does it mean that he’s sharing a consultant with Bernie Sanders?
Who?
Isn’t this Sanders the chicken guy from Kentucky?
what was Tecklenburg thinking when he said he would make Charleston livable again, i thought Riley is pretty much loved in the Holly City.
Charleston is #1 for tourists and we need to make it #1 for people who live here. Leon is not that guy. Leon is everything that is wrong with state politics and the last thing we need is the ethics of Columbia injected into Charleston city politics.
Endorsements don’t mean a fucking thing anymore.
