FILM EXPLORES “MISUNDERSTOOD” VIRUS …
|| By FITSNEWS || The South Carolina Cervical Cancer Awareness Initiative is hosting a screening of a new documentary on the campus of the University of South Carolina this week … but it’s real audience may be members of the S.C. Senate.
The documentary – by filmmakers Frederic Lumiere and Mark Hefti – is entitled “Someone You Love.” It’s focus? The human papillomavirus (HPV) – which has been the subject of intense political wrangling at the S.C. State House in recent years.
Narrated by Vanessa Williams, the film follows the lives of five women affected by the virus – a major contributor to cervical cancer.
In 2007, then S.C. Rep. Nikki Haley co-sponsored legislation requiring every 11-year-old girl in the Palmetto State to receive a vaccination against HPV. In fact Haley refused to take her name off of this controversial bill even after nearly two dozen of her colleagues (Republicans and Democrats) pulled their support in light of its failure to include “opt out” language.
On the campaign trail for governor in 2010, Haley lied about her position.
“Through the legislative process, it became clear to me that an opt-out provision was not going to be included in the bill and it sought to mandate that middle-school girls obtain a vaccine – and strip parents of the right to make the choice for their daughter(s),” Haley wrote on her campaign website in 2010. “In light of that turn of events, I voted to kill the bill.”
This year, S.C. Rep. Beth Bernstein sponsored a bill requiring the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) to provide information about the HPV vaccine to parents of sixth grade girls.
“The fact that our state has one of the highest cervical cancer mortality rates in the nation is unacceptable,” Bernstein said at the time. “By providing parents with information about this very important and safe vaccine, we can help prevent thousands of cancer cases in South Carolina each year.”
Bernstein’s bill cleared the S.C. House of Representatives by a wide margin but was blocked in the S.C. Senate by Lee Bright, who put a “minority report” on the legislation – thus preventing it from being taken up for a vote.
This week’s documentary screening will be held on Wednesday, September 16 at 6:00 p.m. EDT in the Russell House on the USC campus. For more information, click here.

“HPV vaccines are given as a series of three shots over 6 months to protect against HPV infection and the health problems that HPV infection can cause. There are three HPV vaccines (Cervarix, Gardasil, and Gardasil 9). Girls and young women should get any of these HPV vaccines to prevent cervical cancer.
Two of the HPV vaccines (Gardasil and Gardasil 9) also protect against genital warts and anal cancer in both females and males. Boys should get one of these HPV vaccines to prevent anal cancer and genital warts. Girls can get either of these vaccines to prevent cervical cancer, vulvar cancer, vaginal cancer, anal cancer and genital warts.
HPV vaccines offer the best protection to girls and boys who receive all three vaccine doses and have time to develop an immune response before being sexually active with another person. That’s why HPV vaccination is recommended for preteen girls and boys at age 11 or 12 years.”

While everything you say is true. And the vaccine is a good idea. There still should be an opt-out clause. This is still America, for a little while any way.
I’m breaking my own rule about responding to anything you post because I have absolutely no respect for you or anything you post but in this case I will break my self-imposed rule because it is so damn important.
If this were 1960 and the polio vaccine just became available would you say the same thing?
I clearly remember my whole family going to the local high school gym.
and along with EVERYBODY in the entire area “taking the sugar cube”
Guess what?? Nobody made an issue of it and that was back in the “simpler times” dickheads like you wish for the country to go back to and for America “To Be Great Again” (whatever the fuck that REALLY means)
If that happened today and polio WERE still the scourge it was back then who the fuck would be taking care of the children of the parents who thought it was some type of government conspiracy and chose to opt out.
As long as dickheads like you agree to assume total financial responsibility for the medical costs associated with caring for the child or other individual who contracted polio because they opted out fine with me but don’t come whining to me if you kid contracted polio just because you were too stubborn or stupid to understand that vaccines prevent disease and now you are facing a life long task of caring for a crippled child just because you are standing on some misguided principle.
How could you not ‘respect’ Rogue? He has ALWAYS been a gentleman to ALL on Fits.NEVER seen him attack another contributor.
Trump is talking about helping sic bastards like you that signed up to join the military because you were a worthless fuck in life-and then come home and HATE on your country.
Hang on.I only wish you the best.
p.s. PLEASE COME TO BED!
I wish I had a dollar for every snippy reply I got from “Rouge”. He crossed the line when he dissed McCain some months ago. I stated then that I had lost what little respect I had for him and would not honor him by way of a reply BUT this topic is just bigger than that.
Over the last 3 years or more when have I EVER posted that I hate the country that I served for 25 years and fought in 3 wars not to mention one DEFCOM 3 alert for???
And I sure don’t need that loud-mouthed draft dodging coward Trump’s help for a damn thing
This country just MIGHT be going backwards and it will fall over the cliff because of misguided self-righteous know it all pricks like you and “Rogue” who believe they have all the answers.
One more thing…….
If you are a dead ringer for Jamie Leigh Curtis (when she was in her prime) I just MIGHT bed you
Send a pic……
McCain IS a POS. McCain was always a POS. McCain will always be a POS. All of it might not be his fault. I stood across a table from him some years ago and he and I looked eye to eye for what seemed a long time. Neither of us said a word. The man has, what we used to call “snakes in his head”. Weather from being what he is or what happened to him. Either way , he don’t need to have his finger on the big red button. He has been a disappointment to all Republicans, not just me. The only reason he made it in the Navy was because his father and grandfather were Admirals. He was dead last at everything. Now, crawl back under your rock and let the big boys play.
Thank You. I try.
“because you are standing on some misguided principle.”
Freedom- the misguided principle.
Stop calling people dickheads, you dickhead.
Your “freedom” ends when you or your offspring start infecting others because of your misguided principles.
Ever hear of health quarantines dickhead????
Yes fuckface, I’ve heard of quarantines. Those are for people that have diseases that don’t require they stick your dick inside to the to catch their ailment you stupid ass commie.
“of them” to catch
I personally don’t have a problem with vaccines. I and my children and grandchildren have had all they need. Or are supposed to get. Are you willing to take care of a child that develops autism because of the vaccine ? If not STFUP. My comment was for those that have experienced this. Thank God none of my family has.
In college, there was this class called “Probability and Statistics.” Since you obviously didn’t pass that class, I’ll tell you a little about it. Basically, you have a few little mathematical equations to weigh the risks versus benefits in deciding whether to take a vaccine. Okay, now obviously the Polio vaccine has risks, however miniscule, that can result in seizures, brain damage, etc. I do know of one person who this happened to and she is now a severely mentally challenged women who is institutionalized. Now realize, had her parents opted out of the Polio vaccine, her chances would have been much higher to contract Polio and suffer the lifelong effects or death from Polio.
Now there is a vaccine to protect against a sexually transmitted virus. THIS IS NOT AN EASILY TRANSMITTED DISEASE LIKE POLIO.
Secondly, many women who contract the HPV, never get cervical cancer.
Third, cervical cancer is easily detected with regular Pap Smears and easily cured in most cases.
Forth, how many pp do you know who have died of cervical cancer?
Don’t be a sheep. Research vaccines before you mindlessly give them to your children.
Fact one: the polio vaccine was not required to attend school back in the 1950s. Most people got it. Some didn’t. My family was non-vaccinating back then and none of us got the polio vaccine. As it happens, none of us got polio.

There is a risk for EVERY vaccine. Parents way the risks verses the benefits when deciding whether to vaccinate their child. Do you want to risk seizures, sterilization, brain damage and death for a shot that prevents a rare cancer? How many pp do you know who died of cervical cancer?
This is why more Democrats should have supported me when I mandated vaccination from the comfort of Niggerhead ranch. Sure, I needed some campaign money from the makers of Gardasil, but it’s the right thing to do as we in government should be forcing everyone to make the right decisions about their children- and I know Democrats and most Republicans are on board with that.
The great thing about the South Carolina Cervical Cancer Awareness Initiative is that their entire board is made up of GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES with the exception of one lonely consultant from California:

But you say, “Hey, at least there’s one person there who represents the non-government employed public!”
Well, um…Ok…but let me ask you this, who is paying Dr. Ureda and his consulting firm $110,000/year to champion mandatory vaccinations for SC?
I’ll guess one of two(or both) financial sources for his little “consulting” empire:
1. The taxpayer(after all, he’s specializes in “grants”)
2. A manufacturer of one of the potentially mandated vaccines.
Anyone want to guess?

I was sort of wondering who was paying to push this.
Democrats will vote for this if a child is given a ‘ONE FREE ABORTION” coupon at the local Planned Parenthood.
Let the parents decide what is best for their child.
need to vaccinate the boys for this STD, since that’ how this virus finds its way to the cervix. Ask Michael Douglas…
No one cares if men get cancer.
How about we teach our boys not to have sex with everything that breathes like Michael Douglas did?
Make it a double feature!
