HEAD BALL COACH GETS NO SYMPATHY …
|| By FITSNEWS || Former University of Oklahoma/ Dallas Cowboys’ head football coach Barry Switzer doesn’t think Steve Spurrier‘s age has anything to do with Spurrier’s University of South Carolina team dropping its second consecutive game to SEC East rival Kentucky.
You know … the team that has gone 1-22 against the rest of the conference over the past three seasons.
“Age has nothing to do with anything,” Switzer told Chris Kirschner of SECCountry.com. “His age has nothing to do with him getting his ass beat a couple of days ago (by Kentucky).”
Ouch …
Switzer is one of only three coaches to win an NCAA championship and a Super Bowl. He won national titles at Oklahoma in 1974, 1975 and 1985 and won Super Bowl XXX with the Cowboys a decade later. The 77-year-old native of Crossett, Arkansas hasn’t coached since 1997.
Spurrier has been especially sensitive about his age in the aftermath of South Carolina’s 7-6 season a year ago – arguing that no one questioned his age when the Gamecocks reeled off three straight 11-win seasons from 2011-13, an unprecedented run of success.
The 70-year-old coach has said he plans on patrolling the sidelines for another five years in Columbia, S.C.

Unless the recruits don’t think you are going to be there much longer.
all the junior college guys don’t care!
Lulz…fill your shit up with JC xfers..didn;t Lou do that, too?
Reminds me of what happened to a true legend, Woody Hayes.A great coach however the ole ball coach appears ready to snap.I just hope when he does blow, he knocks that goofy smile off Dabo’s grill!
THAT’S a great way to sail off to obscurity. Hell, it killed Woody.
Hayes is a disgrace to college athletics. Assaulting a student athlete from another college just because they made a great play at the expense of your own team? No coach that does that deserves to be looked on in a positive light. Screw that guy.
Obama is a disgrace to America.Fucking a nation just because his daddy, professors and Rev.Wright told him it was evil at the expense of its citizens? No pResident that does that deserves to be looked at in a positive light..Fuck that American hating Muslim.
So’s the score board.
age has nothing to do with calling dumb plays
I think junior and lorenzo ward call the first half, and the OBC and Hoke call the second half
You hope
7-6 are just numbers too.
As a gamecock fan, I preface this with the fact that I acknowledge that Spurrier has done a lot since he’s been at USC. He’s brought the team from winning 3-4 games a year to having, at least, a winning season (most of the time). But at what point do we say that a winning season simply isn’t enough? This program has been around for years and years and I, for one, am sick and tired of being the “meh” team of the SEC. I know some years we’re fantastic and then we lose those players to graduation/the draft….but success should breed success. If we have a fantastic season one year, why aren’t we getting better recruits? Why aren’t those recruits then turning into all-SEC and all-American players? I’m just saying that at some point we need to ask, “Why can’t we be national champions? Why can’t we be in the top 10 annually?” Every time I see a “Fire Spurrier” comment on Facebook, it’s followed by the predictable “Spurrier has done so much for this program! You don’t remember how bad it USED to be! blah blah blah!” Yes, he’s done a lot, but at some point USC needs to stop comparing itself to the team it was 30 years ago and say, “We’d like more than a winning season. We want to be champions.” Say what you will about Dabo, but he’s having to bench 5 star recruits because so much talent wants to play for him and it shows. USC celebrates if it gets a single 4 star recruit. Sure Clemson’s schedule is pretty much a joke compared to USC’s. But you know what? I promise you that if USC played Wofford, the score wouldn’t have been 49-10 USC, it would have been something like 35-28 USC…and USC only would have won because their defense caught an interception in the last 10 seconds of the game, after they we’re losing at the half and got an ass-chewing in the locker room. I’m just tired of being mediocre and I wish the school and most of the fan base was as well. Beating Clemson five years in a row was great and all, but I’d much rather be able to brag that we’re back to back national champions.
The Gamecocks are a middling program and are simply regressing to the mean.
Maybe instead of wasting precious electrons on this drivel about college football you should direct your energy to making colleges be more about what they are SUPPOSED to be (a center of higher education) instead of all this bullshit angst about which football team wins the ACC/SEC/Big 10/National what the fuck ever….
Nobody will give a shit who won a championship next year. It won’t make my stock portfolio change or anything else that really makes a difference in my life
Posts like yours show what is REALLY wrong with this country.
Ok, so just so I’m clear: you’re angry because I expressed my frustrations with the USC football program…in the comment section of an article that was solely about the USC football program and its coach? Of course there are bigger problems in my life, your life, and the lives of everyone in this state and country, but it’s not like I said all of this following an article about the SC economic outlook, another SC politician being investigated, or Syrian refugees trying to come to the US. “Maybe instead of wasting precious electrons” on reading this article and then bashing someone who expresses an opinion on the article, you should use some fucking common sense. You know what’s wrong with this country? People like you that don’t use their fucking brains.
Oh I’m using my brain and common sense all right
I ain’t the dumbshit anguishing over a fucking game and spending hard-earned money on football tickets like you are.
First of all, I’m not buying football tickets. I haven’t attended a game in years and I’m not a season ticket holder. Even if I was, that, as well as my personal finances, are irrelevant. Second, I’m not anguishing over anything. I’m simply commenting on a football-focused article with a football-focused comment. You “didn’t get [me] thinking” about anything other than you’re a hypocrite. Think about this for a second….you came into the comment section of a USC football article to bash someone for having an opinion on USC football. If you couldn’t care less about football, why the hell are you opening up a USC football article, reading it, and then slamming someone for having an opinion about USC football? What the fuck is wrong with you? Did you strike a nerve? Hell no: I just can’t believe that you don’t see what a jackass you’re being. If football means nothing to you, that’s fine. Move on to something else and stop being an asshole.
Struck another nerve huh?????
I’m entitled to my opinions just like you and can and do comment freely.
For someone who claims not to buy tickets you sure made a strong post on how much it means to you for the University of South Carolina to be in the top 10 annually and win a national football championship and achieve “greatness”.
Fuck dude look how many “coulda/shoulda/woulda” situations you mentioned in your first post……………
If that ain’t whining angst what the fuck is????
You and many others like yourself get uncomfortable when someone points out that college and professional football has gotten out of hand and has truly become the 21st century version of bread and circus for the masses.
And you know why you gave me such a strong response??
Because deep down you know I’m telling the truth……………….
Dude, just stop.
Struck a nerve did I????
But it did get you to thinking about it didn’t it????
Don’t forget that the University of South Carolina is the flagship of higher education in the “Great State of South Carolina” you are expressing concern about
Being mediocre is what the “Great State of South Carolina” is all about…….
I think USC is a great school in terms of it’s core mission: academics. It has a great business school and is doing a lot in terms of research in the sciences. But this article isn’t about that; it is about the fact that maybe USC should stop being satisfied with its football team being mediocre. You’re right though…with this state’s current leadership, nobody should be surprised that anyone in this state would want or expect more than being “ok.”
Yep, that great business school was funded by a quasi-liberal Darla Woods (who I do admire for having the guts to do that).
I attended a function where Ms. Woods was the key-note speaker and she is one classy broad…..much to the chagrin of members of the SC House and Senate – not to mention Queen Namrata…..
No doubt the Great State of South Carolina needs more leaders like her.
Hoping to add SOS to the list of legendary college coaches who lost their last game to my Tigers. Hayes, Switzer, Holtz…

BARRY is full of it. Age is more than just a number. Like Spurrier, I have stayed in shape, but believe me, you feel it
I don’t give a shit about that arrogant asshole one way or the other.
Spurrier (and college and professional football in general) that have become the 21st century version of gladiators can fall into a sinkhole for all I care
So, which football player banged your girl?
You shouldn’t be talking about your sister like that……
