The most recent poll shows less than one half of one percent of Republicans support him for the Presidential nomination. That is the same percentage as the last time the poll was conducted.
His support has to DOUBLE just to reach 1%.
Yet this stupid state has elected him to public office continuously since 1994.

Using Lindsey’s line of thought, I guess he wants to free murderers, child molesters and rapists from prison since it breaks up their families to keep them behind bars. Lindsey is single – maybe he should let 5 or 6 refugees come live in his house.
I’m sure the guy has other motives with this but he is right, refusing to help refugees does clash with the sentiment behind the Statue of Liberty.

Every country in the world wants the best and the brightest. Trying to find ways to bring the best, the brightest, the most successful, from other places to here, is neither unique nor exceptional. Creating the best, the brightest, the most successful, is unique and exceptional.
They best and the brightest did not come to the colonies, prior to the revolution. They were happy where they were. Our nation was built on the backs of “utter primitives.” The dregs of European society; the outcasts; the unwanted, the uneducated, those without lands and title, the poor.
You can’t “make” anything out of people lacking the will or intelligence . 90% of the Somalis taken in over the past 20 years are still on government assistance. Europeans were already inculcated in the values and cultures of Western civilization.
How many Somalis have we taken in over the past 20 years and were do you get the statistics on government assistance. Have they been offered work visas and green cards?

None. It had nothing to do with the Constitution. It was a poem about American exceptionalism; American confidence; American hope; American values and the light we as a people hoped to bring into a world of oppression and cruelty. The way we saw ourselves. The way we as a people wanted history to remember us.
But times change. So if that is no longer the case, maybe we should take it down.
Yeah, when the statue of liberty was built, we were still murderlating huddled masses of Indians, but hey, we should probably just pretend America was built on an idealistic poem written by rich white people.

Hey, I’m all for it. If we didn’t, I wouldn’t be here today. We don’t have to pretend that everything was all good back in 1787 and therefore we need to let all cultures in today to meet some make believe ideal.
No one is trying to whitewash history. I never said America was built on an idealistic poem; and it sure as heck was not built by rich white people. It was built by common men and women, fleeing tyranny and oppression; and carving out a new nation with new ideas; and yes making some mistakes in the process. History is what it is. History books are about history and should always be accurate. We cannot know where we are going, how far we have come, and if we are the becoming our best us, unless we know where we came from.
The poem on the statute is aspirational and inspirational, not historical. As I said, this was a poem about how we see or saw ourselves. How we want or wanted history to remember us. This poem is about our dreams, our hopes; our values, and our confidence. The very essence of American exceptionalism. We saw ourselves as a light in the darkness. Something unique in the world.
But again, if that is no longer the case. We should take it down.
That sappy poem and that homely-ass womans’ statue (by a Frenchman, no less) are NOT law or public policy.
