|| By FITSNEWS || S.C. governor Nikki Haley is finally making her move on the abortion issue – months after undercover videos exposed a gruesome fetal body parts scam run under the auspices of government-subsidized abortion provider Planned Parenthood.
And several weeks after state lawmakers began their efforts …
A month ago, Haley instructed the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) – whose commissioners she appoints – to investigate the state’s three Planned Parenthood facilities. The agency found multiple violations at two of those facilities – in Columbia, S.C. and Greenville, S.C. – and has referred some of those violations to the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) for further investigation.
The violations – most of which involved record-keeping and patient notification issues – prompted Haley to issue a stern public condemnation.
“This is completely unacceptable,” Haley said. “I fully support DHEC’s actions, including its referral of the matter to SLED. South Carolina is a compassionate state, and we are a state of laws. We will not tolerate law breaking of any kind, particularly as it relates to the callous treatment of human life.”
The two facilities have until September 28 to address the violations – or be shut down.
Pro-life advocates were pleased with Haley’s action – although they said Planned Parenthood has been in violation of state law for years.
“The abortion clinics in South Carolina have been egregiously breaking the law while shamelessly accepting taxpayer dollars,” said Somer Flowers, one of the Upstate’s most prominent pro-life activists. “The results of the DHEC investigation are no surprise to those who have been fighting to protect the lives of the unborn. It is high time we uphold the current law and close permanently any clinic that seeks to profit from abortion.”
Flowers is correct. Just five months ago, FITS exclusively reported on a legislative audit which concluded SCDHEC was guilty of inconsistently inspecting and monitoring abortion clinics in the Palmetto State.
Planned Parenthood’s response to all this? The organization said Haley’s threat was “politically motivated.”
Haley has yet to make a move to defund Planned Parenthood in South Carolina – much to the chagrin of pro-life lawmakers like S.C. Rep. Donna Hicks. Last month, Hicks challenged Haley on this issue – a challenge she reiterated this week.
“Last Wednesday I went before the S.C. House Oversight Committee and took questions for two hours after requesting a non scheduled investigation into state agencies that fund or work with Planned Parenthood,” said Hicks, who has been tasked by S.C. Speaker Jay Lucas with leading the legislature’s efforts on this issue. “Tuesday I met with SLED and turned over photos and documents I had collected through personal investigation with the help of several pro life citizens.”
Hicks also said she met with Haley’s office this week but was told they were waiting on “cause” – namely the results of the SCDHEC probe – to make a decision about defunding the organization.
“They have found cause,” Hicks said. “So I am calling on the Governor to defund Planned Parenthood now.”
Nationally, several “Republican” lawmakers have threatened to shutdown the federal government if Planned Parenthood is not defunded.
We support those efforts – as we support Hicks’ efforts here in South Carolina – however we remain pessimistic about so-called government “shutdowns,” and the politicians who threaten them.

First error: only one of the three abortion clinics is affiliated with Planned Parenthood, the one in Columbia. It does not participate in fetal tissue donation.
DHEC obviously followed Haley’s instructions to make inspection of the Planned Parenthood clinic a priority. The inspection reports reveal that the Planned Parenthood clinic received a much more detailed inspection than the Greenville or Charleston clinics.
Nearly all of the violations were of special requirements enacted under pressure from abortion opponents to make it more costly or time-consuming for women to obtain a safe abortion. Gotta wait 60 minutes after the ultrasound before the abortion so that maybe you will change your mind!
None of the “violations” cited for the PP clinic in Columbia deal with quality of medical care. Most are bureaucratic: lack of documentation for staff training, inventory errors or hot water temperature too hot.
Here is what is going to happen. These terrible — terrible, I say! — errors will be corrected. DHEC will get its $7500 fine, Haley will brag that she really cleaned up a nasty situation, and AG Wilson will hope everybody forgets that he tried to make a big deal out of possible “criminal violations”.

The agency issued an Administrative Order of Suspension for Planned Parenthood of South Atlantic in Columbia, S.C., due to violations of state laws and regulations. The 21 cited violations included: non-compliance with the Woman’s Right to Know Act, incomplete medical and employee records, expired medications, improper infectious waste disposal practices, and failure to report abortions to DHEC Vital Statistics in a timely manner. The DHEC order becomes final on September 28, 2015, and will result in closure of the facility unless review by the DHEC Board is requested or the facility meets the terms of the order.

I linked to the DHEC inspection reports in my post above. Anyone with basic reading comprehension can see that there was no charge that expired medications were given to anyone, but there were expired medications on hand.
No patient was exposed to infectious waste. The mishandling charge was based on the waste not being incinerated or buried, and because the hazardous waste containers were not weighed and the weight recorded prior to transferring to the waste disposal company.

And we teach them how easy it is to do that. See they sell these items called condoms, and they have birth control pills, and all sorts of methods to avoid unplanned pregnancy. There’s even an organization dedicated to it, called Planned Parenthood. A place maybe Bristol should have frequented.

I read that SC has suffered a revenue drop from fines. Seems to me, if Haley was sincere about her job she would direct SC OSHA to get off it’s ass to do what the taxpayers pay them to do. Because the above clinic does not perform abortions, DHEC did “hit” — good choice of words — the only PP clinic that does perform abortions.
They do referrals and MAY be involved in this cover- up, however.
