EASTER EGG HUNTS? SPACE INVADERS?
|| By FITSNEWS || As we noted earlier this month, U.S. Senator Rand Paul‘s 2016 presidential campaign has been a colossal disappointment.
The Kentucky Senator was supposed to grow the “Republican” party by courting pro-freedom, pro-free market independents – but in a desperate bid to undermine the candidacy of Donald Trump, he’s somehow morphed into the party’s loyalty czar.
Meanwhile Trump is raking in all the anti-establishment supporters the younger Paul was supposed to be inspiring …
Crazy, huh?
What happened? Easy: Paul made a strategic decision over a year ago that his last name was enough to keep the pro-freedom, pro-free market libertarians in line … leaving him free to run to the mushy middle of the “Republican” political spectrum.
That plan has failed miserably …
Struggling to raise money and build momentum, Paul’s campaign this week announced the release of a smart phone app aimed at providing what The New York Times referred to as “a blend of digital mischief and communication.”
From the Times’ report …
In addition to offering calendar events, campaign news and a featured video, the app lets users post their own Rand Paul memes or create an artificial selfie with the senator to share on social media. And if they know where to tap, they can find an “Easter egg” hidden game, a version of the 1978 arcade classic “Space Invaders” that features Mr. Paul’s torch logo shooting rockets at other campaigns’ logos, blasting Donald J. Trump’s “Make America Great Again” and Jeb Bush’s “Jeb!” into pixelated embers.
Ummm … what?
Easter Egg games? Space Invaders?
WTF?
“Is this fool running for President of the USA or one of those South Carolina fraternities that just got placed on suspension?” one national conservative operative asked FITS rhetorically.
Good question …
Also, why would a campaign struggling to compete financially blow money on an app like this? Like every other move made by Paul’s campaign this election cycle … we just don’t get it.
A year ago, Rand Paul had the opportunity to turn the political spectrum on its head … to pick up the gauntlet laid down by his father, former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, and chart a new independent course for American politics.
His future was wide open …
Rather than boldly, unapologetically pursuing that future, though, Paul tried to play footsie with the GOP establishment. And pander to “Republican” primary voters.
Let the implosion of his candidacy be a lesson to those who follow the same path …
UPDATE: Here’s a story from Eliza Collins of Politico mocking Paul’s “selfie” app …

Rand Paul thinks???
“What’s an app?”
~average Rand supporter
Seems like Rand has more nerds than old people.
The Pauls are also popular with white supremacist groups, too.

Come on now, EVERYONE thinks, some just have bad luck doing it, like Rand.
He’s not stupid, just unlucky when it comes to thought.

Im not going to lie Will, the game is actually a pretty good idea. it kinda makes me want to download his app just to be able to play it sounds fun. thanks for advertising it to us for him for free.
Also stop acting like most of us here don’t already know that an “easter egg” is a common term for a hidden feature on a program. Easter Eggs have been in existence since before MS-DOS came out.
Not possible!
“A year ago, Rand Paul had the opportunity to turn the political spectrum on its head .”
That is a joke right? Just like Rand Paul is. He is going no where. Time to drop out before he is embarrassed further.
It’s nepotism. He’s not a leader like his father was/is.
“Paul made a strategic decision over a year ago that his last name was enough to keep the pro-freedom, pro-free market libertarians in line … leaving him free to run to the mushy middle of the “Republican” political spectrum.”
That’s exactly what he thought be could do. Then, work with Cory Booker on criminal justice reform – which I doubt very many Average Joe Republican Libertarians are interested in at all – and go to black colleges and get jeered for thinking they were too stupid to know black political history in this country.
Basically, he’s just an egomaniacal surgeon – most of us know one – who thought he was entitled to be anointed president and not have to actually run.
“A year ago, Rand Paul had the opportunity to turn the political spectrum on its head … to pick up the gauntlet laid down by his father, former U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, and chart a new independent course for American politics.”
Man of faith and stands for “life”. His dad and the fact he comes off as just being plain weird like his father, gave him ZERO chance.
Clearly, Will is not a gamer. The game is Galaga, not Space Invaders. “Easter Egg” only means it’s a hidden surprise, only meant to be found inadvertently or by a thorough search.
The app obviously isn’t for the average voter (or for that matter the non-voters who inflate Trump’s poll numbers). It’s for the millennial base that he is betting on and still has some support from.
This is only embarrassing because of his embarrassing freefall from the top of the polls. If he was still doing well, this app would probably have much more favorable reviews.
There are plenty of reasons to be disappointed with Rand and his campaign, but this is not one of them.
Eh, I got ahead of myself. I confused Space Invaders with Defender. Still, the game more closely resembles Galaga, but Space Invaders makes for a better read.
Look it’s all over for rand Paul
The only person who does not realize it yet is in fact rand Paul
Rand Paul
Should be categorized as an “also ran”
Rand Paul offers nothing to excite the voters
Love him or hate him but trump at least inspires or provokes a response
Rand Paul is weak as dish water
Truth BOMB
Dropped.
Rand Paul was obviously the best candidate. He does have solid ideas and a proven track-record, but he ruins it by going after Trump. You don’t see guys like Christie and Cruz going after Trump. They do they’re own thing and present their own ideas.
