“Why not stop subsidizing millions of things government shouldn’t be doing and start spending tax dollars on one of the handful of things it should do?” we wrote last summer.
So far, the candidate with the most detailed, most ambitious immigration reform agenda is Donald Trump.
Although Walker may be looking to one-up him …
During an interview with NBC’s Chuck Todd, Walker said the creation of a northern border wall – spanning the United States 5,525-mile border with Canada – was a “legitimate idea.”
“Some people have asked me about that in New Hampshire,” he said. “They’ve raised some legitimate concerns, including some law enforcement folks, that brought that up to me at one of our town hall meetings about a week and a half ago. So that is a legitimate issue for us to look at.”

Sources close to the Wisconsin governor say the “legitimate issue” Walker was referring to was the broader issue of northern border security – not necessarily the construction of a northern border wall – but it’s clear the flagging GOP candidate is having some (additional) problems articulating his message.

A local critic of Myrtle Beach’s government took his concerns to the City Council Tuesday and asked the mayor to resign.
William “Boz” Martin addressed the council during the public comment period of Tuesday’s meeting, criticizing a host of issues, including the city’s actions that drastically toned down the bike rallies, funding of Coastal Uncorked and a February wreck that Mayor John Rhodes was involved in in Aynor.
“For the good of this community, why don’t you put yourself out of our misery and resign immediately,” Martin told the mayor at the closing of his speech.
Rhodes said after the meeting that he wasn’t going anywhere.
“No, I’m not resigning,” Rhodes said. “I really have no comment on Mr. Martin’s State of the Boz address.”

Look, the healthcare system is fairly fooked in different ways in both countries.
No question that the healthcare system here bankrupted people, but the why’s/how’s are much more complicated than “socialist healthcare is the answer!”.

Well, the last time I was there, my story above was the EXACT situation with my brother-in-law’s kid.
He’s got a flu/cold and he’s trying to convince the ex-wife over the phone it isn’t life threatening because he doesn’t want to go down to the emergency room and sit around for six hours…
She’s a hypochondriac, and that’s exactly what happened…he went down there and sat with her in a waiting room for half the day.
In another instance my sister(dual citizen) couldn’t get in any sooner than six months intervals to see a doctor over some infertility issues…as her biological clock was ticking away and they were trying to figure out the problem. She eventually gave in and came down here. (from my understand it’s illegal in Canada to pay cash and move to the front of the line…you have to have a diagnoses that warrants it in someone’s opinion…aka rationed healthcare)
So it’s not all “peaches” up there either.
Well nothing is aways maple syrup and flapjacks; but for 1100 or 1200 a month of additional income I can put up with a little inconvenience. But I have never experienced the problem your family did.
You are wrong about paying however. We have private pay doctors and there is even private health insurance if you want to subsidize government care and get faster service. In the big cities there are even hospitals who take private pay. I have not had to use any of that.
It’s interesting you say I’m wrong about that…I’ll have to talk with the fam. again…I actually suggested they go pay a doc to get in and out and I got a big explanation that it was “illegal”; only cosmetic surgery and a few other circumstances allow for cash pay.
That may be province by province, but I did not think so. Not very many people do it. Most Canadians, just use the government funded health care.

I’m Heinz 57 ethnically, with the largest portion being Italian. So I don’t identify with ethnic cultural norms, mostly geographic- and there’s a lot of similarities between certain aspects of Michigan/bridge to Canada culture and Toronto.
That being said, it always freaks me a out a little when I’m driving on the QEW and I see references to “subjects”.

What I was gently referring to was the French ones. I’m sure your aware that there is a division in Canada and that half of them don’t appreciate being called Canucks. My old man was arguing with my Grandmother one day when I was a kid and he called her a Canuck. She had to go to the ER to get her heart checked out and my folks nearly split up. I’m sure things have lighten up a bit, I don’t know.

Actually food isn’t that expensive in Canada. My family and I had a great three course Chinese dinner in Toronto last month for like $38 US. And the Beaver Tails on the street were only $3.50 each. (That other beaver tail is sold on the internet)

I visit greater Toronto fairly regularly, especially Markham area. Then up into cottage country…
Everyplace in that area is substantially more in the cost of food, on the order of AT LEAST 33% versus down here.

You can do that by going to DC, Baltimore, or NYC. I’ve had family from Nova Scotia, Quebec, (I know, she was the black sheep), Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Camloops, and the islands of Vancouver. When they visited Florida they acted like they were in a third world country because everything seemed dirt cheap to them even at exchange rate. Most are passed away and I’m not in touch with my distant cousins.
My brother in law is from Nova Scotia…he tells me it’s filled with blue collar drunks that work the fishing industry.

I was paying $7 for a half gallon of milk(granted, US subsidies cloud the issue) up in greater Toronto and eggs & bacon were up there too.
Not to mention the gas prices…the cost of living up in Canada eats up a lot of their income.
Now all that being said, their gov’t has actually shrunk and they keep their budgets in line to their credit. They can more easily afford the inefficiencies of socialized healthcare(for now), plus their overall population is no where near ours(which exacerbates gov’t inefficiency).
Difference between the two in the matter of border walls; Trump will build the wall, Walker is just dishing out BS talk to get votes.

A 60 foot high border between us and Mexico is counterproductive as shit, and I still don’t understand why we think Mexico would be willing to build it, and could actually afford to pay for it. What we really need to do is take out the cartels which are driving people to escape the nearly endless violence that has sprung up in the last few decades. Mexico is completely unsafe, and while I understand that our economy suffers when people don’t assimilate and become citizens (another issue, expediting citizenship/assimilating people faster) it’s pretty much our fault that there are so many undocumented illegals here. I get both sides of the story. They don’t pay taxes, yet they are allowed to use our welfare system, and get medicaid. Yet, our drug laws are the reason why Mexico sucks so badly, so why not bite the bullet and fix them? It would also solve our prison industrial complex issue too. You people are so full of it.
