EX-SCGOP LEADER, SOCIAL MEDIA PROVOCATEUR SUSPENDED FROM PRACTICING LAW AFTER “MAJOR MELTDOWN”

Supreme Court has suspended the law license of Columbia, S.C. attorney, former SCGOP official and social media provocateur extraordinaire Todd Kincannon after he allegedly suffered a “major meltdown” this week. Not only that, the court has placed Kincannon on “incapacity inactive status” and assigned his client’s files and financial accounts to another attorney.
News of the suspension/ transfer was posted to the court’s website on Friday afternoon.
What happened? According to sources at the court’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel (ODC), Kincannon’s meltdown occurred during a court appearance this week. Following this alleged incident, the self-described “honey badger of American politics” is said to have sent “multiple emails and facsimile messages” reportedly containing “menacing language and images” to a variety of different recipients.
Among the images? Pictures of Kincannon with a gun pointed to his head.

Kincannon has reportedly been sent to a Columbia, S.C. mental health facility for an undisclosed period of time in the aftermath of his alleged “meltdown.”
What prompted all this? It’s not immediately clear.
We know Kincannon was charged with criminal domestic violence in April in the aftermath of a bizarre incident involving his wife. According to a police report, he grabbed his wife’s arm during a March 26 argument inside their parked car, “squeezing it tightly, thus preventing her from exiting the vehicle.”
Kincannon’s wife told police at the time that her husband threatened to kill her, himself and her family during the incident – threats he is accused of having made previously.
According to our sources at the court, Kincannon’s latest missive contained similar suicidal threats.
Kincannon has inflamed the far left for years with his over-the-top social media pronouncements – prompting liberal websites across the country to gleefully document his troubles earlier this year.
Our guess? They’re going to have a field day with this report …
As politically incorrect provocateurs ourselves, this website has always appreciated Kincannon’s role in the marketplace of ideas – even when we haven’t agreed with him. Unfortunately, it’s becoming increasingly clear to us that he’s got some real issues that need addressing.

Former state Treasurer Martha Shoffner was sentenced Friday to 30 months in prison after being convicted on federal bribery and extortion charges.
U.S. District Judge Leon Holmes imposed the sentence after hearing disputes from Shoffner’s attorney and prosecutors over the pre-sentence report.
Shoffner’s attorney Chuck Banks objected to figures used in pre-sentence calculations, saying that the amount of bribes was not accurate.
“One agreement with multiple payments does not constitute multiple bribes,” he said.
Shoffner, a 71-year-old Newport resident, admitted to receiving $36,000 from bond broker Steele Stephens in $6,000 increments, sometimes concealed in a pie box, which she used to cover rent payments for her Little Rock apartment. She received the payments over three years in return for directing state bond business to him.

When you have undiagnosed mental illness then you will have people that are able to purchase and possess weapons. What standard do you use to determine if someone without a history of violence is capable of possessing a weapon. Any that is on Xanax or Prozac? If these people really pose a threat shouldn’t they be institutionalized to prevent them from harming others? Having mental issues isn’t like having cancer ( I was going to use pregnancy for the analogy but liberals like to argue about when pregnancy begins). If an oncologist says you have cancer then they all will say you have cancer. Mental Health can be subjective and diagnoses can vary from psychiatrist to psychiatrist. If properly medicated some people can and do function very well in society. How do you make sure that they are taking their meds? At what point does emotional problems become mental illness? At what point does mental illness become insanity? How about temporary insanity? A nervous breakdown? Do we require mental health evaluations before all gun purchases? Do we require periodic follow ups to make sure that the gun owner remains mentally stable? How often do we have them? Daily? Weekly? Monthly? Annually? Do we require insurance to cover these visits? Do we make doctors liable for an improper diagnosis? Before, you spout those liberal talking points make sure that you can answer the follow up questions.

This is an example of why trying to focus on mental health issues as a way to control gun violence – the leading method of suicide – is doomed to failure.
Way too many of us are way too ignorant of and/or are accepting of what are genuine signs of psychopathology.
And, the criteria to commit someone – threats to harm self or others – means high functioning and/or highly manipulative people can end up at a hospital talking to a DMH ‘professional’ and tell them what they want to hear to avoid having to call around for an emergency placement. (Read about the situation of VA legislator Creigh Deed’s son stabbing him a couple of years ago for an example of how the MH system does not work.) But, there were pictures this time.
In Kincannon’s case, his entire family may have rationalized his behavior or covered it up or desperately tried and tried to get him help for who knows how long… and, nothing happened until he sent out pictures holding a gun to his head for the whole world to see.
For all I know, Kincannon’s been in therapy for decades. But, if not, he is finally, hopefully getting the help he appears to have needed for quite a while.
And, because he was committed, may not ever be able to legally own a gun again…if the commitment gets entered in the necessary databases.
Does anyone have a link to the details of his ‘meltdown’? What was the court appearance regarding, exactly? Does anyone have a link to the order of mandatory inpatient psychiatric care? I don’t necessarily doubt either but it would be nice to know the details & all I’m seeing is the SCSC’s order of ‘incapacity inactive status’ and a few selfies with a gun pointed to his head.
