SCGOP Will Impose “Loyalty Oath” On Presidential Candidates

|| By FITSNEWS || In response to moves by “Republicans” in North Carolina and Virginia, the South Carolina GOP – host of the “First in the South” presidential primary – announced this week that it, too, will impose a loyalty oath on presidential candidates hoping to appear on its statewide ballot next February.

SCGOP chairman Matt Moore affirmed as much in a statement released to reporters released Tuesday afternoon.

Here’s what he had to say …

In response to today’s many media inquiries, SCGOP Chairman Matt Moore reaffirmed that the South Carolina Republican Party’s 2016 Presidential Primary filing form includes a party pledge to not run as a third party candidate in November 2016. South Carolina candidates for state and local office must sign a similar pledge.

All candidates must “hereby affirm that I generally believe in and intend to support the nominees and platform of the Republican Party in the November 8, 2016 general election.”

Thus far, four candidates have signed the pledge and filed for South Carolina’s February 20, 2016 Republican Primary (Rubio, Bush, Kasich, Carson). Three more will sign the pledge and file in the next week (Walker, Cruz, Graham).

Our thoughts on all this?

You can read them by clicking here, but the long and short of it is that the GOP is afraid … very afraid.

Donald will be tweeting his response to your pledge tonight. But I’d guess it will include the law suit stuff.

Donald Trump should just do to the GOP what every career politician does to his supporters: lie.

Sign the pledge, make them happy, then go back on it if it doesn’t work out.

What’s good for the goose, etc.

What, did anyone think the Duopoloy was going to fold and disappear? lol

The establishment GOPers will probably find a way to tank Trump if he doesn’t tank himself before the February anyway.

They would keep him off the ballot in SC if he went against their pledge. Hard to get elected when you can’t even get on the ballot.

Then again what happens if you hold a primary and nobody shows up

How would they keep him off the ballot if he runs third party? Are there some rules saying if he doesn’t win the GOP primary that he can’t run as an independent?

Great point, rules in SC can change as the wind blows. Especially the R wind! LOL

THat’s a great question, because in Virginia that’s exactly what they’re shooting for – calling it a “Sore Loser Law” – and I’m not making that up.

SC has a “sore loser” law. So, unless someone wants to change the law between now and the primary he won’t be able to run as an independent if he loses the primary.

SC Conservatives should immediately stop making contributions to the SCGOP. They are obviously determined to give us another Bush candidacy. Their candidate of choice and the one that will allow the Party’s paid bureaucrats to keep control. Its time to take a stand. Conservatives should not be held hostage by a party that does not take them seriously. Its time to fight back. Stop the flow of ,money to the party now!!!

So the establishment continues to play its games. As though they could force loyalty. I hope Trump will sign what he needs to sign and then do what he needs to do. Because the GOP establishment cannot command loyalty. We are not going to vote for a Bush, and we are not going to vote for a Koch puppet. Better 4 more years in the wilderness if that’s what it takes for the party to learn its lesson.

No more status quo politician, and no more bought and paid for politicians. We demand something different.

It’s actually in SC state law anyway. It doesn’t matter what the party says on the subject…”sore loser” law.

“Intend”? What a weak document!

Reply
shifty henry August 25, 2015 at 10:57 pm

You see that, too. The candidate is only stating that as of the day, the hour, and the minute he/she signs the document he/she “intends” to abide by the statement in the future. However, the candidate can also have a change of mind at a much later date as circumstances flow to the advantage/disadvantage of that candidate.

It’s just a “pledge” it means nothing to Trump. He will break a stupid pledge without batting an eye.

I bet there were zero media calls until Matt Moore wanted to make this an issue… must have been a slow news day at the State Marco, I mean GOP Headquarters.
