|| By FITSNEWS || Matching its standing in the Amway Coaches’ preseason poll, Clemson University’s football team will open the 2015 season ranked No. 12 in the nation according to the Associated Press.
Head coach Dabo Swinney‘s Tigers – the preseason favorites to win the Atlantic Coast Conference – are ranked two spots behind conference rival Florida State University, the highest-ranked ACC school.
The two teams will meet on November 7 at Memorial Stadium in Clemson, S.C.
Swinney’s teams have been the model of consistency during the last four seasons, winning at least ten games each year and finishing among the nation’s elite programs.

The University of South Carolina begins its 2015 campaign unranked after a disastrous 7-6 season a year ago. Beginning in 2010, head coach Steve Spurrier‘s Gamecocks were ranked for 69 consecutive weeks. That streak ended last season following a fourth quarter collapse against Missouri … and things only went downhill for South Carolina after that.
How’s Spurrier taking this whole “unranked” thing? Eh …
So … who’s No. 1? Ohio State. The defending national champion Buckeyes received all sixty-one first place votes from the media representatives who participate in the AP poll – the first time that’s happened since 1950.
In addition to Florida State, Clemson faces No. 11 Notre Dame and No. 16 Georgia Tech for a total of three ranked opponents. The Tigers open their 2015 campaign on September 5 at home against Wofford.
In addition to Clemson, South Carolina plays No. 9 Georgia, No. 14 LSU, No. 24 Missouri and No. 25 Tennessee for a total of five ranked opponents. The Gamecocks kick off their 2015 season on September 3 against North Carolina – a game that will be played in Charlotte, N.C.

And all three of those ranked opponents are played at home for Clemson. If they get lucky, they could do OK. I am not a big Clemson fan, I always root for USC.
I’m for Carolina over anybody, Alabama over anybody except Carolina, Clemson and Auburn I follow just enough to not offend their fans in a conversation….
Yeah, I feel that way about several teams. Used to attended many games in Sanford Stadium, the ex-wife was a Georgia graduate. Goes all the way back to when Georgia had VD, Vince Dooley. The pregame atmosphere around Sanford Stadium on game day was incredible.
Aaah… the fond memories, not of my ex-wife, but of the likes of Hershel Walker, Buck Belue, etc…
Who is the guy (now deceased) who wrote books on Southern humor, and he went to either Georgia or Georgia Tech? He had a relly funny comment in one of his books about the two schools. His name is actually floating around in my head ……

So where was SC ranked this time a year ago? I know we were picked to win the SEC East. And you can’t call 7-6 “disastrous” at SC. Not when most of us can remember when we won the first bowl game in school history.
I believe they were in the top 5 or 6…hence the disastrous season, compared to pre-season rankings, anyway.
Was this before every 6-6 team started getting a bowl bid?
Given that favorable home schedule Clemson should be coming to William Brice with a 10-1 record with a chance to be in the hunt for the playoff. If Watson gets hurt, which is highly possible, they may be 7-4 by that time.

Clemson should be higher. They’ll move up.
Not only did USC go unranked, they didnt get a single vote. Almost 50 schools received votes. Even Western Kentucky got a vote.

Classes must really be easy at USCe as the little frat boys have time to steal screen names and pretend they are someone they are not.
They might be 12 but we are still ahead of them now, and will be again at the end of the year. Clemson is one of the mist over rated teams in the conference and every year we hear how good they will be, but only one time since we joined almost 25 years ago have the won the conference and just 2 times have they won the division. How exactly does that make them elite again? Go Noles!!!
