… BUT CAN HE GO HOME AGAIN?

|| By FITSNEWS || There is no politician in recent American history who has advanced freedom and free markets – and challenged fascism and statism – as consistently as Ron Paul.

That’s why we endorsed his 2012 bid for the GOP nomination.

Unfortunately the apple (a.k.a. U.S. Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky) has fallen a considerable distance from the tree … a distance that was only growing as the younger Paul announced his presidential aspirations back in the spring.

Now that Rand Paul’s 2016 candidacy is struggling mightily, he’s running back home … trotting out an endorsement letter from his father this week praising his “commitment to liberty, Austrian economics, small government, and following the Constitution.”

“Even where Rand and I do have minor differences of opinion, I would take Rand’s position over any of his opponents’ in both parties every time,” the elder Paul added.

Really?

Last time we checked Rand Paul – the candidate who was supposed to grow the party by inviting new views – had taken on the role of GOP loyalty czar, all in a desperate bid to undermine the candidacy of Donald Trump, who is raking in all the anti-establishment supporters the younger Paul was supposed to be inspiring.

We’re going to be blunt about what went down here: Rand Paul made a strategic decision over a year ago that his name was enough to keep the pro-freedom, pro-free market libertarians in line … leaving him free to run to the mushy middle of the “Republican” political spectrum.

That plan has failed miserably … and now Paul is trying to run home.

“The letter appears to be a renewed pivot toward (Rand Paul’s) libertarian roots at a time his campaign has been struggling for cash and sagging in primary polls,” Politico reported.

Yeah … that may work for some “libertarians,” but we’re not buying it.  In fact his “pivot” strikes us as completely devoid of substance … sort of like his big “win” on domestic spying.

Of all the 2016 “Republicans,” Rand Paul’s candidacy was the one we were most excited about.  We viewed him as the sort of guy who would take the fight to the establishment (as Trump has done), not coddle it … or lend it his imprimatur.

But that hasn’t happened …

Rand Paul’s attempt to flip back to his libertarian roots by embracing his father – after months spent keeping him at arms’ length – is worse than a flip-flop on a particular issue, it’s a fundamental shape-shifting maneuver that would make a chameleon like Mitt Romney proud.  And the fact it involves his own father is even more disappointing.

Ron Paul may still be willing to put his arm around his son … but we’re not.

I lost it with that a$$hole last year when he started pandering to blacks by siding with the Black Lives Matter terrorists over the Police. Yeah, I know, he was theoretically opposing the militarization of police forces around the nation. However, it’s hard to not see their purchase of military leftovers as the lesser of the evils between them and the terrorist BLM group.

I noted above that he actually was criticizing the militarization of police. Yep, just a clever, back door way to pander to blacks and BLM. IMHO, in the zero sum game scripted by this horrible president and his allies like BLM, Rand Paul doesn’t get any passes when choosing the lives of thugs over those of law enforcement. Look, no rational person supports the white Charleston police officer that shot the black suspect this past year; likewise no rational person supports Sandra Bland, Trayvon Martin, or Michael Brown.

“Was”, man. “Was”, is the correct tense. His flip-flopping on important freedom and liberty puts this in past tense. Unfortunately, Rand has never been his dad. Unfortunately as of late, his dad seems to be taken with social issues and/or pandering to those who place religious-based social issues above freedom and liberty issues.

Trump has exposed fakes August 18, 2015 at 6:29 pm

Good point. Trump, if nothing else, has been good bait to see who would side w/ liberals to bash Conservative ideas.

In-state, they really damaged Katrina Shealy trying to use Trump as a War-on-Women weapon. She bit, on the heels of her gas-tax support. She MAY hold the Senate seat because she’s still compared to Jakie. But her career is dead for anything else. She has not been able to think on her feet. You cannot be a WOMAN candidate, when we thought we were electing a candidate for ALL of us. (and did you see the photo The State ran of her?) I’m sure she thought they were friends. (:

Anyway: Trump has represented the Conservatives. Rand has been a libertarian, while running as a Republican. We’ve had way too much of liars using our platform to get elected because they could not get 5% being honest about being a Libertarian-Moderate.

Cruz has been great handling the Trump questions. He knows what they are doing, and says so.

I know if she should be quiet and let you tell her what to think and say and then she would be doing the right thing. then you would have that Puppet you all thought she was going to be. She isn’t anyone’s puppet and you don’t like that. Get over it!

It’s funny that anyone thinks Trump is a conservative. I often wonder why Trump supporters don’t think he is a liar? He says whatever he thinks people want to hear in order to win. He wants to be the dictator and I can’t for the life of me figure out why others think that he would do anything good. I’ve always figured he was a democratic plant or just an egomaniac wanting the ultimate power. What for? who knows but it’s certainly something that would only benefit him.

Uh, no. I still believe that his old man was the best chance this country had to pull itself out of several ditches it has become stuck in. We pissed that opportunity away. I had previously found Rand more acceptable than most in the running but his flip-flopping on things, going back to 2012, does (as Fits correctly noted) make him look like Romney and others who I found unacceptable. Attacking Trump, the only candidate who seems to be solid in his positions, has killed any enthusiasm I had for Paul Junior’s candidacy.

Reply
essentialliberty August 20, 2015 at 10:53 pm

I don’t think he has “flip-flopped” as much as others like to paint him. The press is also not his friend. I read his books and looked at his voting record and he consistently stands on the side of liberty. Trump is only solid on belittling people and blows a lot of hot air with no substance behind it. Where is his plan? Words can be lies. Rand Paul has some ideas for changing the tax code, balancing the budget, and protecting individual liberty. Trump just says he’ll win. “I’m going to build a wall and make Mexico pay for it.” Whatever….give me a break. Rand and Cruz are the only republicans I can remember who voted against TPA. Cruz had a great speech about fighting the government cartel that exists on both sides, although he kind of flip-flopped into voting against TPA at the last moment. Rand has consistently done this in my view. Here is his statement about TPA and TPP: “To me it’s common sense: Members of Congress should actually read the bills before voting on them. But in Washington, common sense is often flipped upside down on its head. And the latest example is the 800-page Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) – President Barack Obama’s secretive trade deal.
The deal’s text is kept hidden in a secret room within the U.S. Capitol, unavailable to the American public. I’m demanding Barack Obama release the final text of the trade deal IMMEDIATELY before final passage is voted on by Congress.
Currently, only members of Congress – and select staff – are allowed to read the deal’s text. But we’re not allowed to discuss or talk about the contents of the deal outside of the secret room. And even though most of my colleagues in the Senate admitted they haven’t read the text of the bill, many of them recently voted to fast-track it through the Senate. I’ve got concerns about voting on any bill that’s kept in secret and hidden from the American people.” He wants the congressmen to actually read the bills. Novel idea! Trump has been pandering to both sides (with his admitted donations for gain to politicians) and working the angles so how will he suddenly change as president? I’ve read Rand’s books and he pretty closely mirrors his father’s stances on the issues I find important. I’m pretty bummed that I’ve found a candidate that I agree with but he’s so down in the polls. I only wish he had more time to speak and people would see that he is the real deal not Trump.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Splitting_(psychology)

Splitting (also called black and white thinking or all-or-nothing thinking) is the failure in a person’s thinking to bring together both positive and negative qualities of the self and others into a cohesive, realistic whole. It is a common defense mechanism used by many people.[1] The individual tends to think in extremes (i.e., an individual’s actions and motivations are all good or all bad with no middle ground).

The concept of splitting was developed by Ronald Fairbairn in his formulation of object relations theory;[2] it begins as the inability of the infant to combine the fulfilling aspects of the parents (the good object) and their unresponsive aspects (the unsatisfying object) into the same individuals, but sees the good and bad as separate. In psychoanalytic theory this functions as a defence mechanism.[3] It is a relatively common defence mechanism for people with borderline personality disorder in DSM-IV-TR.

Relationships[edit]

Splitting creates instability in relationships because one person can be viewed as either personified virtue or personified vice at different times, depending on whether they gratify the subject’s needs or frustrate them. This, along with similar oscillations in the experience and appraisal of the self, leads to chaotic and unstable relationship patterns, identity diffusion, and mood swings. The therapeutic process can be greatly impeded by these oscillations, because the therapist too can come to be seen as all good or all bad. To attempt to overcome the negative effects on treatment outcome, constant interpretations by the therapist are needed.[4]

Splitting contributes to unstable relationships and intense emotional experiences. Splitting is not uncommon during adolescence, but is regarded as transient. Splitting has been noted especially with persons diagnosed with borderline personality disorder.[5][6] Treatment strategies have been developed for individuals and groups based on dialectical behavior therapy, and for couples.[7] There are also self-help books on related topics such as mindfulness and emotional regulation that have been helpful for individuals who struggle with the consequences of splitting.[8]
