This is one sick individual but someone needs to investigate DPS. Given the chance they cover up anything that could make them look bad. They would have covered this up if the Attorney General’s office had not been involved. They get rid of anyone that is not in the clique and willing to kiss their ass. This guy was reported to be stationed in Aiken, Troop 7. That is where the majority of the corruption in DPS comes from. This guy got himself in a mess and deserves whatever befalls him but he needs to speak out about all of the corruption that has been going on around him. The protected class at DPS needs to go. from Leroy on down.

On a (somewhat) related note, has anyone else noted the latest hokey slogan, courtesy of the traffic offense industry; “Target Zero”?
Police (usually traffic enforcement industry specialty) cars all over are sporting those “Targey Zero” decals which supposedly mean their yarget is “zero highway deaths” over the next six months or whatever. Every time I see one of those decals I want badly to say, “put your rifle back in the case and take the target down, you’ve already missed your mark (several times). In all fairness, this crap was probably thought up and pushed into motion by some pencil pusher in a back office, not the cops given their marching orders to write moar speeding tickets and seatbelt violations in hopes of ending trsffic deaths. Unfortunately, the powers that be will probably never realize (or care) that the notion that every ticket you write saves a life is nothing but bunk to prop up the governmental coffers, the radar and traffic cam industry, and the defense lawyers.
Just like everything political, follow the money. There is a certain state senator that sits on the judiciary committee, writes the DUI laws then goes home and “defends” DUI cases, making 6 figures every year. WOW, I wish I had a job like that. LOL
I was talking with a good friend the other night and he brought something to my attention that I hadn’t thought about. All this “must have body cams” bullshit that politicians are pushing and practically every highly-placed police official is dutifully parroting tbe “need” for just may have a more sinister side. One of the biggest, most financially viable, pushers of LE “must have” goodies is Taser. As the market has more or less been saturated with their premier product, they have diversified and are one of the biggest providers (read pushers) of body cams. Like the Motorola 800MHz trunking systems that Public Safety agencies nationwide have more or less been pushed into adopting, even when something else would have worked better for them, I cannot help but wonder if the pockets of legislators, governors, council persons, mayors, police chiefs, and sheriffs, may not have been generously lined to make their approval of these expensive items as “must have” a little easier.
Here’s some archived information from Taser. They sell the camera to the agency and then they sell data storage at a minumum of $15.00 / officer / month. Of course no one will go with that plan so they go up from there all the way to $99 / officer / month.

Thank you for the informative links!!!! Your data brought to mind one of the biggies my friend had mentioned, which slipped my mind, data storage! That stuff ain’t cheap, and it appears to be but one more way for Taser to bolster their little cottage industries.
Let’s say a department of 300 officers takes the mid-level plan their initial investment is $399 for the Taser AXON camera x (300 officers + 9 (3% in supply for emergency replacements) so 309 Cameras) = $92,700 cameras one time fee.
If the department takes the mid-level data storage plan it’s $55.00 / month / officer x 300 officer = $16,500 / Month = $198,000 per year assuming no data overage or need to pay the additional $24.00 / month / officer for unlimited storage. Now after 30 months with Evidence.com (Taser’s data storage division) you get a free camera upgrade which basically serves the purpose of keeping said departments from shopping around and keeps them using Evidence.com. Total investment for 30 months of service is $587,700 of course Taser will eat the $92,700 fee on the second round of cameras but they now have a guaranteed $198,000 / year customer for life. Looks like they’ve learned well from MotherMoto.

Goals should always be SMART. In other words specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely. This one fails on at least two of the five criteria attainable and realistic and theoretically it fails timely because it would take an almost infinite amount of time to reach the goal. Leroy isn’t all that SMART now is he. :D
