|| By FITSNEWS || Former Florida governor Jeb Bush – a guy who knows a thing or two about U.S.-Cuban relations – is blasting the administration of Barack Obama for restoring full domestic ties to the island nation.
You know … the one our government was still trying to overthrow as recently as last year.
“Secretary of State John Kerry’s visit to Havana is a birthday present for Fidel Castro – a symbol of the Obama Administration’s acquiescence to his ruthless legacy,” Bush said this week. “U.S. policy has changed, but Cuba has not. It remains an unyielding dictatorship, a tragic example of the folly of communism, and an affront to the conscience of the free nations of the Western Hemisphere.”
Damn … them’s fightin’ words.
Bush has long supported America’s embargo of Cuba – and the cause of Cuban exiles in America. In fact he currently leads U.S. Senator Marco Rubio of Florida – a Cuban-American – among the latter’s own demographic.
Pretty impressive …
While the effectiveness of the “Cuba embargo” is up for debate, there are legitimate reasons to oppose the normalization of relations (many of them were articulated in this post by U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan).
Our view?
Eh.
We don’t support an isolationist trade policy – or travel policy – but we also don’t support sending billions of dollars of aid to county like Cuba. Nor do we support crony capitalist trade deals.
Americans should be free to visit Cuba and do business there: That goes without saying. But our government shouldn’t devote a dime of “aid” to the country. Or any country.

Wow I am such a good troll, no one will guess I just posted that! Derrrrrrrp!
Gotcha!!!!
Obama wants a legacy, i.e., giving in to Iran, shoving through ObamaCare, recognizing the despots in Cuba, giving in to Russia, tearing apart our armed forces, inflaming the racial problem, etc, all of which he is running a high disapproval.
Unfortunately, he may be underwater here in the USA, but he is lovingly approved in countries that don’t like us.
Yea, and in Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand. Whats up with that? They love this guy everywhere. At least with Bush we had a healthy distrust relationship going on with our allies.
Excellent post.Kerry looked right at home in Cuba. I was waiting on him to hand Castro the Vietnam medals he threw over the wH wall when he declared his hate for this country.
I guess your Cuban Jewish friends in West Palm are all upset.
I think you forgot saving the US car manufacturing jobs, reducing the numbers of peole without health insurance and reducing unemployment from 10+ to 5%. But don’t worry, we’ll fix it for ya.
Lets ask Ted Cruz’s father, wasn’t he a communist revolutionary fighting with Castro, to seize the property of the rich Cubans and give it to the poor people.
He “evolved.”
Republicans do that often.
Neighboring country, with a population of 11 million, with lots of produce (pineapples, sugarcane), millions of their people living in the US (Miami and NYC), ripe for US investment (dollars for US companies) – yeah, let’s not have diplomatic relations with them. That would be STUPID.
I couldn’t help but notice the obvious omission of cigars.
In other countries now I’m told, from Cuban tobacco seeds.
Hi, my name is Jeb Bush. If you vote for me, Hillary is sure to win!
I’m Jeb Bush, and we’re going to freeze out Donald after January 1. This nomination is bought and paid for, and I bought it. So get out of my way.
I agree with what Fits said about NOT sending any foreign aid to Cuba. We send way too much money that we don’t have to spare to countries that despise us or which are at best, ambiguous in their intent towards us.
That said, I think it is ludicrous that we have normal relations with Vietnam, China, and many other nations that have directly or indirectly caused the deaths of more Americans than Cuba ever did, yet we refuse to drop the barriers with Cuba.
Eventually, one would think, the Castros will die out. Meanwhile, let the citizens of Cuba enjoy some of the benefits of tourism and let American cigar afficianados enjoy a real Cuban cigar.
Ol’ crafty Fidel has beaten them all.
Just a play to all the gusano GOPers in Miami
Get a better lie, Jeb. Explain Iraq, asshole.
