A DECADES-LONG LEGACY OF “REPUBLICAN” FAILURE …

|| By FITSNEWS ||  Is the party finally over for the GOP?

On the one hand, we have the forces fueling the improbable political ascent of say-anything, billionaire real estate mogul Donald Trump.  On the other hand we have a “Republican” establishment that’s “reeling from the feeling” as Trump’s popularity expands.

This establishment has been attacking Trump – and his supporters.

We’re referring of course to the bought-and-paid-for “Republican” party – an entity this website gave up on years ago.

From our post in November 2012 …

… it’s past time that the GOP’s lily white cadre of dark-suited, red-tied, two-faced, big-spending, liberty-depriving, imperialistic, crony capitalistic, currency manipulating, morally sanctimonious, special interest suckling politwhores went away for good .. and let people who actually stand for the things they claim to stand for take a crack at this.

Yeah …

Since we wrote that, the GOP betrayals have mounted.  There was the fiscal cliff.  The “shutdown” over Obamacare.  The capitulation on executive amnesty.  More hypocrisy on spending.  And of course shilling for Barack Obama’s crony capitalist trade deal.

Hell, even the anti-establishment “Republicans” are bending over for the status quo.

Anyway, there’s a great piece by Breitbart’s Mike Flynn discussing what the Trump phenomenon means for the GOP in a historical sense.  According to Flynn, “Republicans” had it made in 1988 when George H.W. Bush was swept into office on the coattails of Ronald Reagan.

What did Bush do?

“He immediately squandered that political inheritance, passing a tax increase, increasing spending on domestic programs and generally expanding the federal regulatory state,” Flynn wrote.  “He lost reelection primarily because of conservative anger that vented itself with the Perot campaign.”

That’s true.

More from Flynn’s outstanding analysis …

The Republican party, in Congressional and state legislative races, was given a lifeline in 1994, after the early Clinton Presidency veered too far to the left. Its victories were reactions to oversteps by Democrats rather than an endorsement of its party brand.

Bush, the younger, eked out two presidential victories against deeply flawed Democrat challengers. Both victories were very near-run affairs, capitalizing on Democrat missteps and a more clinical targeting of narrow-interest voters, rather than a positive Republican vision.

After being decimated in the 2008 elections, the Republican party was again given a lifeline by voters outraged over the far-left impulses of the Obama Administration. It has won mid-term elections, which have been framed as reactions to missteps by Obama. It has lost national presidential elections, which are framed as competing visions for the country. In both 2008 and 2012, Republican candidates have suffered declines in turnout from more conservative, working-class voters.

Translation?  The GOP has won a pair of low-turnout races (in 2010 and 2014) … and then totally failed to offer anything resembling a distinction from the party they were challenging.

Surprising?  Um … no.  Remember that U.S. Senate campaign in Mississippi

“Last year, a Pew Poll found that two thirds of Americans want the next President to reverse course on much of Obama’s policy agenda,” Flynn continued. “Not only has the Republican party not moved in that direction, it has arguably augmented Obama’s legacy by refusing to take action against several of his largest initiatives.  The Republican party has placidly stood by while Obama implements his own amnesty program for illegal immigrants. It has led the effort to grant Obama sweeping new powers to negotiate a multi-lateral trade deal. It has also enacted legislation ensuring that Obama’s deal with Iran is implemented.”

Brilliant …

Well, we’d have subbed “flaccidly” for “placidly,” but other than that Flynn is spot on.

We gave up on “Republicans” a long time ago … and they’ve done absolutely nothing since then to warrant a reconsideration of our position.  If anything, they’ve gotten worse.

OK, last one for the day. Lovin’ this Disquis account though. What it tells me, with 30% of the GOP primary voters supporting Trump, is that the GOP has failed to attact new voters, and is increasingly dominated by aged, Tea Party folks, who are a) upset over being stabbed in the back by McConnell and Boehner, b) yearn for a long-gone era of the 1980s and c) are totally irrational, and out of touch with modern reality.

Rocky out – later dudes and dudettes!!!

Everybody gets older or else dies. The country is getting older. Thus more Republican. Those old Republicans were sixties liberal hippies.

Reply

Nah, the old hippies live in California, which is still very blue.

Elsewhere Republicans are just old Fox News watchers barricaded in their homes so Obama can’t take their guns, the darkies can’t rob them and watching the hispanic guy mow their lawn, as they bitch about immigrants..

They are mesmerized by the Fox News Hurrycane ads however, as they dream of days when they didn’t need the scooter..

They always manage to leave their barricaded homes to vote. Thanks to medicare, they are living longer than ever.
There are higher numbers of Republicans in office than there has been in eighty years.
Those you refer to as darkies don’t have photo Id (ha!) and Hispanics are illegal.
The South and midsection are growing faster and as that process has been going on for 50 years it has continued to become more Republican in local and state elections.

I saw some focus group video of New Hampshire voters, who call Trump “conservative”, despite his not to long ago statements that he is “very pro-choice”, his past support for amnesty, support for a “single-payer” health insurance system, big government in the form of higher taxes on imported goods, and a wide array of other Democrat positions. So to call Trump “conservative” is to be misinformed, i.e., don’t know what the fuck they’re talking about. What they’ve transferred into conservatism, is Trump’s bombastic, take no prisoners rhetorical flair. I also like Trump’s feedback to reporters when he calls their questions stupid, and shuts them down, and not playing into their gotcha question game. But that doesn’t make Trump a conservative.

Trump is allowing the “republican voter,” including those that don’t often go to the polls, to vent their frustration at government, other institutions, politicians and the ruling class.

Trump has just scratching the surface and as time goes along more and more “average people” will voice their displeasure.

Odds are Trump will not be the next president, but he has already provided a needed and valuable service. Trump has given voice to the average guy and girl and they are screaming loud and clear at the ruling class—we don’t like you, we don’t trust you, and we want you out of the way!

Even if you think thats a non-issue (and its not as secretary of state it HAD to have national secrets in it), don’t you wonder WHY she would do that? Don’t you think that smoke screen would signal that she has something to hide?

Our government spends hundreds of millions of dollars to provide secured email functions to its high level employees, and she has a local IT company set up an exchange box in her house?

Did I say I trust Hillbillary?

All I am saying is that Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot.

It does scare the shit out of me.

Republicans are too busy fumbling the ball over who to elect.

Trump is owning the field even though he is not a serious contender, something Republicans don’t want to admit.

None of their contenders thus far are worth electing, another thing Republicans do not want to admit.

Even if they had a candidate worth electing, they would have to support policies that would cause me to deem him/her unelectable just to appease their base.

Democrats are going to back Hillary even though she doesn’t deserve to be the nominee.

I’ll vote for Bernie Sanders solely because I trust his voting record, but I know he won’t win.

As for Republicans doing the same thing, Romney deleted almost everything when he left Massachusetts.

That did not scare Republican voters in 2012 though.

Luckily his comments about the 47% scared the moderates, something else Republicans don’t want to admit.

Republican presidents are hardly electable because there is no way to juggle crazy right wingers and moderates without dropping balls, another thing Republicans won’t admit, or accept.

They bit off more than they can chew.

I know we are fucked but at least I can laugh at their folly.

In 2007, while he was in the White House Bush set up an email server at the RNC. Bush, Cheney and the White House staff ran millions of emails through those servers. While he was PRESIDENT, not Sec of State. When those emails were subpoenaed in connection with the potential illegal firing of US Attorneys, the RNC said they had accidently deleted millions of them and they could not be recovered. Didn’t you wonder why? Don’t you think that smoke screen would signal that the RNC and Bush has something to hide.

Our government spends hundreds of millions of dollars to provide secured email functions to its high level employees, and Bush has the RNC IT guy set up an exchange box at the unsecured RNC office?

A retired detective was called to a gruesome scene near the intersection of Highway 76 and Highway 176. The initial officers on the scene were stumped and wanted his expert opinion

Upon arriving at the scene the retired detective found the body of prominent politician pancaked on the highway. There were skid marks leading up to the body and there were skid marks on the opposite side of the body.

The old timer walked around for a few minutes and then offered up his opinion

Well it looks like someone saw this fella in the roadway, recognized him and slammed on brakes to make sure they would hit him. Then after running over the body the perpetrator put his car in reverse and at a high rate of speed with the tires burning rubber he backed over the prone body thereby ensuring he had made a good kill

Now as for suspects. Right now over 8 out of 10 of people think politicians are one level below road kill so it looks like y’all have a hell of a lot of suspects – best of luck to you

What Does It Say About GOP? August 5, 2015 at 6:24 pm

Let’s be honest, Donald Trump is not a serious Republican candidate.

He ran last time, dropped out, will probably do the same this time.

The fact that he is successfully stealing the thunder of the more serious contenders should be alarming.

There is no cohesion in the party, no direction, no one with a solid following.

Hillary on the other hand is facing few challengers and the only mildly serious one, Sanders, will ultimately fail.

Republicans are in deep, deep shit.

This is like McCain picking Palin for his veep.

The only problem is, Trump is the Sarah Palin of the primary.

And he’s on top!

Goodbye, GOP, we hardly knew ye!

New polls are coming out showing that Hillary way up over every Republican. But that is old news. These polls also show Biden could beat Bush and Walker and Sanders is only 5% behind Bush and Walker; and gaining ground. When will the GOP hit bottom? I’m betting No time soon.

Of course the Bush and Walker numbers are not that relevant right now, because Trump is killing them. Bye, Bye Republican establishment; Bye Bye Koch Brothers.

Folks, none of this matters. The GOP simply will not win the White House in the foreseeable future.

They just don’t have the demographics they need in swing states and electoral vote rich states to get them across the line. On top of this, they seem intent on shedding any demographic they can to make it all the harder.

In modern day America you can’t just rely on old, angry (mostly male) white people to win a presidential election.

The Republicans control:
1. Senate
2. House
3 Most Governorships
4. Most state legislatures

Most Americans are governed by Republicans governors. More are governed by Republican legislatures than Democratic.

No demographic problem there.

The same electorate.
I suppose demographics don’t aply to states and Congressional districts.

Nonsense August 6, 2015 at 7:56 am

Same electorate?

Only 1/3 of senators are up for election at any one time.

Only nine states have governor elections on the same year as presidential elections.

Republicans always do far better in midterm elections.

Presidential elections are a different beast than Congress or state office elections.

Apples and oranges.

Great post.Obama has destroyed the democrat party.Democrats can’t win elections anymore.Gerrymandering works for BOTH parties.Democrats have a policy/message problem. All politics is local and voters have rejected the lawless and morally bankrupt agenda of the democrat Party.

I agree.Jeb is the ONLY one that COULD elect criminal Hillary.Walker in a landslide.

Rocky Verdad August 6, 2015 at 10:22 am

And in the current polls, Hillary still beats all GOP contenders by 7 points or more.

State elections are easier for the rich to buy, which affects #3 and #4.
