GAMECOCKS AMONG “OTHERS RECEIVING VOTES”

|| By FITSNEWS || Clemson University’s football team will open the 2015 season ranked No. 12 in the nation, according to the preseason Amway Coaches Poll released Thursday.  Meanwhile the University of South Carolina program – which has been in a bit of disarray of late – is unranked in the preseason poll for the first time since 2010.

Last year South Carolina began the season ranked No. 9 – only to fall out of the rankings en route to a dismal 7-6 record.

Head coach Dabo Swinney‘s Tigers – preseason favorites to win the Atlantic Coast Conference – are coming off of their fourth consecutive 10-win season.  Unranked in the 2011 preseason poll, Clemson finished the year at No. 22.  The Tigers were No. 14 in the preseason in 2012 and finished ninth.  In 2013, they began the year at No. 8 and finished ranked No. 7.  Meanwhile last year Clemson had a No. 16 preseason rating and finished at No. 15.

Pretty impressive consistency there … especially last season (which many predicted would be a “down” year for the Tigers after losing career passing leader Tajh Boyd and No. 4 overall draft pick Sammy Watkins).

Leading the poll?  Defending national champion Ohio State – capturing a whopping 62 of 64 first place votes.  Texas Christian (TCU) and Alabama were ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively, followed by Baylor, Oregon, Michigan State, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia and Southern California.

The big surprise of the poll?  Tennessee … which enters the 2015 season ranked No. 25 according to the coaches.

The Volunteers’ last appearance in the rankings came during the second week of the 2012 season – when they landed at No. 23 in the Associated Press rankings.  A loss to Florida bounced them, though, and they haven’t tasted the Top 25 since.

Speaking of Florida, the Gators were unranked in the preseason coaches’ poll for the second year in a row.

Prior to that, Florida had been ranked in the preseason Top 25 every year since USA Today began publishing the poll in 1991.

Clemson has the tools to have a strong season. Unfortunately, there is not a decent home game until October.

Why wouldn’t they be? The won last year so until they get beat they should be #1

Their players are probably making above the league minimum salary for the NFL.

Maybe Alabama should be paying more than Arena Football minimums. :)

Or at least as much as Clemson paid Sammy Watkins ago a few year. IPTAY bought them a player that couldn’t spell his own name

I bet his Bills’ checks get cashed. How do the amounts compare to your pay checks?

I never like unrealistic expectation with an unknown quantity..its bad enough when its a known quantity.

I’ll see it, THEN I’ll believe it.

You beat me to it. I think I remember another SC team being hyped to high-heaven this time last year and then disappointing the hell out of everyone within the first two minutes of the first game. Yeah Clemson’s quarterback is supposed to be good, but I’ll believe it when I see it. That being said, #fireward.

As sure as the dog days, You’re perennial Champions in the Imaginary League. You always win all the games from February to August.

It’s just all the REAL games from Sept. to Dec. where you always seem to under-whelm.

But you ALWAYS are SO SURE of Gridiron Infallibility in the Pre-Season, that gives way to sad depression when the games begin.

Have fun with your imaginary competitive team in the SEC with your infallible “we gots enemies” coach when you only win 5 games this season an ol Spurrier retires.

Agreed, if D. Watt can find some guys to reliably go to in the first two “warm up” games and the offense can get adjusted and fine tuned. I don’t see why Clemson wouldn’t win the ACC. However, he is prone to getting hurt just by way of the fact he likes to scramble out of the pocket and run down field but he’s not built like T. Boyd and one too many tackles can sideline for the season. He needs to be smart and poised…which he is (assuming he gets some sort of O line help with the pass rush).

I’m not saying Clemson will win the national title…I’m not even saying we’ll make the playoff, but I am saying we’ve got a good shot at another 10+ win season with a relevant bowl game at the end.

Didn’t your head – or at least highest paid- coach take the job at SMU?

And didn’t you have the most EVER top round draft picks leave the team for the NFL? You had SEC numbers departing from Dabo’s only good team in his tenure.

Might be setting yourself up for another of those familiar heartbreaks. Sucks to be you. (:

35-17, Bare Cupboard.

Dabo owns Spurrier, now, and this season is going to be another ass-whuppin’ of the Ol’ Ball Sack. In case you haven’t noticed, Clemson still has Deshaun Watson, who is Jameis Winston minus the crab legs and rape charges (that you know of). He does not need a line to tear apart your biddies, and will do so again this year as Clemson marches to yet another national championship!!!

That 5 will be a distant memory soon enough. But for now, it’s just a piece of past history, that Clemson still owns. http://www.winsipedia.com/clemson/vs/south-carolina

Got it, you were for history before you were opposed to history.

Jeff Tankersley July 31, 2015 at 4:14 pm

Nope, Clemson has always had the history. The 5 peat is just that, a 5 peat. Clemson has the higher at 7 wins in a row. Scar streaks of 4 or more…2…Clemson…7. The 5 peat is the biggest accomplishment of SCar’s entire program history. No Conference titles outside their 1 ACC one, no Natty’s, just a 5 peat that has ended with a pre-season #9 to non-ranked ending.

By as much as you wrote clearly it still gets under your skin you lost 5. he will lose his 6th this year.

Yep, and after he left for SMU, Clemson went on to near shut out OU in the RAB 40-6 with their 2nd string QB (not Watson)…your point is?

There goes Sic Willie again, bashing Clemson in knee-jerk fashion. Where is your proof of these polls? The “Internet”? Wooooooo. If such polls exist, what was their methodology? Blah blah Sic, your little USCe chickens are going down to Clemson AGAIN this year, and I plan to talk pure trash all season long in anticipation of it.

Folks’ little frat boys at work again. All they are capable of is stealing screen names. How brave of them. But then there is a reason they are called chickens.

The SEC is 3, 7, and 9? My how the mighty have fallen. TCU is above an SEC school? But, but, but the SEC is best conference.

I see USC is 10th, they’re above Clemson. USCe is 36th, but still 4 spots above the mighty Duke football team.

ACC, the kings of August July 30, 2015 at 8:13 pm

Almost every year, your jerk off comes premature. This year is no different.

The ACC is always conference of kings in August, only to be desperate, down and gloomy as the actual games are played. And idiots, like you, never seem to learn how fucking stupid you look almost every year. And this year be like most.

squished123 July 30, 2015 at 8:23 pm

shut up. The ACC has one team in the top 10 and it ant the Tigers. The ACC is the best ever!

Reply
Jeff Tankersley July 31, 2015 at 11:15 am

So on rivalry week, last games of the regular season….4 SEC teams played 4 ACC teams. Remember the outcome?? Georgia vs GT, SCar vs Clemson, Florida vs Florida State, Louisville vs Kentucky. Was that a 4-0 sweep for the ACC, not in August??

Reply
tank jeffersley July 31, 2015 at 5:43 pm

didn’t that like only happen one time in the last decade? other that that is was usually 3-1 for the SEC if not a full 4-0. . remember those outcomes? Or do you only want to remember the 1 time it happened? I guess you also forgot that in August Clemson got the shit beat out of the by UGA

Reply
Jeff Tankersley July 31, 2015 at 6:10 pm

Yeah…I remember UGA playing a Clemson team that had 3 starters out…and Stoudt as the main Qb…took a 2ND string defensive guy to go out to injury and Gurley to run at a 3rd string player in the 4th before Gurley could separate that 3 points clemson stayed at for 3 qtrs. I also remember that UGA lost to CU the year before. ..and so did LSU.

tank jeffersley August 1, 2015 at 12:32 pm

I forgot, Clemson always has excuses. or they are kings of we were in the game for “X amount of time” (as in before they took the field because only the final score means anything to anyone outside of that shit hole of Clemson) “Hey guys we scored first so we won the battle”, “well did you score the most?” “No but we scored first so it counts as a win right?” “NO”. Odd that you want to bring up CU beating UGA the year before as a point Wasn’t that the same CU team that lost their 5th straight to USC? And if I not mistaken in 2 of those 5 wins had a back up QB starting, a 3rd string running back and the point guard was at WR. It didn’t stop them, so why the excuse?

check mate!!!! August 2, 2015 at 1:58 am

I guess that shut his dumbass up

Jeff Tankersley August 2, 2015 at 12:16 pm

Not really…that actually just made the point that much easier.

tank jeffersley August 2, 2015 at 5:49 pm

it is easier against it that is when you don’t even know what your point was with an incorrect attempt at a point. face it check mate was right.

Jeff Tankersley August 2, 2015 at 12:15 pm

Wasn’t the UGA you are mentioning the same UGA that lost to SCar this last year…the same 7-5 SCar Clemson mauled with a one legged QB that wasn’t hardly in the UGA game??

tank jeffersley August 2, 2015 at 5:47 pm

no USC beat UGA this last year. You might want to think before you talk Jr

Jeff Tankersley August 2, 2015 at 6:01 pm

Actually you might want to..That’s exactly what I said. “same UGA that LOST to SCar this last year”

what? different team? what?? August 3, 2015 at 12:05 pm

Im sorry but wasn’t it the same roster and coach? Its the same team no matter how you cut it. Your coach just didn’t play who you think you would have won with. Blame the coach, but don’t make an excuse that it was a “different” team. All that does is make Clemson sound like bitches The Tigers always claim “what could have been”, or how “close they came to this or that ” but they don’t seem to do it. I offer no excuse to losing to Clemson this past year. USC lost plain and simple. Now it wasn’t a mauling as you say (unless at least 4 of the 5 ones previous were ass whooping’s too, but I’m sure instead of admitting that you will make an excuse of why you think Clemson should have won but didn’t). And in reality you QB might get the stats but all he really did was hand the ball off to a WR. That’s who beat the crap out of USC not Watson.

Squishy123 July 31, 2015 at 5:49 pm
