FORMER GAMECOCK PRIMED FOR BIG YEAR IN CHICAGO

|| By FITSNEWS || Given the dire straits in which the University of South Carolina football program currently finds itself, it’s important to remind people that star high school athletes came to Columbia, S.C., won in Columbia, S.C. and have gone on to great careers at the next level.

A shining example?  Chicago Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, who is getting some serious love heading into the 2015 NFL season.  Jeffery is the No. 1 wide receiver in Chicago after posting back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons for the Bears – who are looking to rebound from a disastrous 2014 season under new head coach John Fox.

“Jeffery has all the tools to be a top-tier receiver in the NFL,” the website 24/7 Sports declared.  “He possesses massive hands and a long 6-foot-4 frame. His speed, athleticism and jumping ability give him the advantage in almost every jump ball situation and a threat in the open field.”

He’s also reportedly been working overtime in the offseason in an effort to earn himself a long-term contract (Jeffrey’s current deal with the Bears expires at the end of the coming season).

“Jeffery worked hard in the offseason to prove he is a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver, and convince the Bears he is worthy of a long-term contract,” ESPN reported this week.

In addition to his 2,921 NFL receiving yards since 2012, the St. Matthews, S.C. native caught 183 passes for a school-record 3,042 yards and 23 touchdowns during his three-year career as a Gamecock.

The highlight of his collegiate career?  Arguably the “Hail Alshon,” a miraculous leaping grab during the 2012 Capital One Bowl in which he out-elevated the Nebraska Cornhusker secondary and then evaded defensive back Alfonzo Dennard as he fully extended to the goal line.

Jeffery came to South Carolina after originally committing to the University of Southern California.  At the time, then-Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin told him he would wind up “pumping gas” if he came to play for the Gamecocks.

That obviously didn’t happen …

No so strangely, no coaches ever have.

are you hearing voices? July 28, 2015 at 7:50 pm

not surprisingly a dumb ass tater fan has to troll an article that has zero to do with his team to make himself fell good. That means USC is still in his head and its all he can think about. Good job on your coaches 2nd ever win against USC, he wont get a third this year. Now go back to Tigernet your rent is due.

^^^ Not a smart cock..always worrying about Clemson, even when it’s never mentioned.

cant stop the voices? July 29, 2015 at 2:12 pm

Actually jst as you claim you never mentioned USC I never mentioned Clemson you dumbfuck. I said Tater, I guess you admit its the Clemson Taters. But you did reference Columbia SC first and there is only one football tem in Columbia SC outside of you mommies favorite team in Benedict, so you did troll . You are walking proof that some abortions should have happened as you are too dumb to try to make a valid put down. Run on now troll, its past you bed time. sorry but that’s a check mate!!!

Tater Salad July 29, 2015 at 3:42 pm

If I called you a coot, would you know what I meant? Hmmm? The troll here is you. I don’t think you are a very smart person, cooter.

I like mine mashed July 29, 2015 at 5:17 pm

I don’t know what a coot is tiny troll. I assume you also didn’t pull for AJ or USC and are here for no other reason. That by definition makes you a troll. I understand you’re not smart enough to understand that but it doesn’t excuse you. Now run along little troll run along

Tillman for Heisman July 29, 2015 at 5:46 pm

Let me guess, you are a KKKlemson fan?

Go Dawgs July 29, 2015 at 3:37 pm

Maybe a UGA fan? We hate the cocks too.
You realize that most people agree that, historically, South Carolina has been a coaching graveyard. Last head coaching job for Dietzel, Carlen, Morrison, Scott, Holtz, and probably Spurrier. I think Sparky was the only one to actually get another head job after SC…impressive.

that would be true if E Norma Scok hasn’t been on here many times before and claimed to be a Tater fan, but good try to pose as a bulldog out of no where on here to cover your trolling ass. we haven’t worried about UGA in years by the way as Spurrier owns them dawgs

Way to get me on your side Will by mentioning that jackass Lane Kiffin. He has football knowledge but can’t trust it enough to not cheat, hence why he will be under supervision the rest of his life. GO GATORS!!!!

Shazaam July 28, 2015 at 7:47 pm

Just so you are aware, he did eventually admit that he made up the fact that Kiffin said that, it was reported in the real media. Not defending Kiffin, I don’t like him a bit, but facts are facts.

proof??? or did you just hear that from a friend of a friend. just saying the media said it doesn’t make it true

Unless you have a source, I have never heard him admit to this. In fact, while he has declined to speak about at all about it publicly, several teammates at the time said privately that Kiffin did in fact say just that. Wanted to let you know “Just so you are aware”.

What’s your source? “several teammates at the time said privately”.

I should clarify, several teammates at the time said privately that Jeffery did in fact confirm that Kiffin said that.

“Kiffin has denied saying it. But Jeffery told teammates the story was true.”

So it’s Kiffin’s word vs. Jeffery’s word. Which liar do we believe?

Daniel Boome July 29, 2015 at 7:36 pm

Really? You ask for a source (thinking I must not have one) and your only response is to ask which liar to believe. What’s the evidence that Jeffery is a liar? I know you are a Clemson shill, but give it a rest. It fits perfectly with Kiffin’s shtick and he is a consummate liar. Not only that but, while Jeffery won’t publicly talk about it, people who were with him have confirmed it and teammates have confirmed that he has said it’s true. That’s a far fetched thing to make up if he is lying.

Squishy123 July 29, 2015 at 9:56 pm

Well apparently you don’t have any sources, all you have is hearsay of some guys sitting around in a locker room. Just remember to stay on that Dirtpecker bandwagon if the season starts to go down the toilet.

Daniel Boome July 29, 2015 at 10:18 pm

Hey idiot, you apparently missed the whole point of this conversation. We had somebody, without any substantiation, say that Alshon admitted he made the whole thing up. I stated I had never heard this and that I had seen and read basically the opposite. I never said there was a recording of the whole thing or that it wasn’t based on hearsay, just that what the OP said wasn’t true. You then come in taking some nonsense about which liar we should believe, as though Alshon is some noted liar. Then you change the subject and start a bunch of juvenile fan BS and talk about a “dirtpecker bandwagon”. First of all, why would anybody be on their bandwagon after last year if all they are is a “bandwagon” fan? You can’t even make sense because you are so steeped in fandom. You apparently don’t understand what a bandwagon is in terms of following sports. People still cheering for USC are grads and true fans like me.

Second of all, who cares about the season? It has no bearing on the fact that you were wrong in this conversation. It’s just an opportunity for you to talk some meaningless shit, something you wouldn’t have been doing the previous five years. And it’s not exactly going out on a limb to predict a bad season for us this year. You let me know when you see me predicting ten wins. I’m not and only fanatic idiot (like you) would. If we have a bad season, then it certainly won’t be a surprise at all. It’s probably going to be another 6-6 year. But if we somehow do end up being better than expected and beating you, then you are gonna look real dumb for talking unprovoked shit.

dont play with him July 30, 2015 at 7:57 am

Don’t worry about squishy. he is a little bitch that is so sad and desperate for attention he trolls articles that have nothing to do with him, and then in the political section posts racist remarks. He is a true member of KKKlemson’s nation. Fits’ anonymity is like his hood.

TontoBubbaGoldstein July 29, 2015 at 11:15 am

TBG thinks Alshon will do just fine in the NFL and life.

TBG also envisions Clowney working as nightclub “See-currtey” in a couple years. Not many gas pumping jobs out there, for the last 30 or so years, Lane.

If Lawrence Taylor, Allen Iverson, Mark Brunell, Scottie Pippen, Evander Holyfield, Vince Young et al could scrape together enough for some prepaid phone cards, they’d be jamming the switchboard .

Very true on that point, however they don’t pay the same “peanuts” they had to take back in those days. With the Adidas contract alone He should be fine, then add in what his agent made sure was a guarantee for being the #1 pick, he has bank. I just do not see Clowney going broke. Also thank you for taking the high road and not pointing out the autocorrect mistake in my original comment like many others would do. (Clown eye lol). That sir is how to debate and disagree but do it with class. Others should watch
