ALAN WILSON ISSUES OPINION ON PALMETTO STATE CAPITAL’S ANTI-SECOND AMENDMENT ORDINANCE

|| By FITSNEWS || Earlier this month we reported on efforts by the City of Columbia, S.C. to impose an “emergency” weapons ban around the S.C. State House during the volatile debate over the Confederate flag.

We pointed out this ban was in violation of a state statute … and that lawmakers planned on challenging it (which they did).  We also noted the history of how the ban came into place.

This week, S.C. attorney general Alan Wilson weighed in on the issue.  According to an advisory opinion issued by his office, the city’s weapons ban attempts to undo state law – “making illegal what State law makes legal.”

Translation?  It’s unconstitutional.

As we noted in criticizing the latest attempted gun grab at the federal level, we oppose any and all impositions on Americans’ constitutionally guaranteed right to keep and bear arms.

Not just because they represent illegal impositions on liberty, but because they do not work.  As much as the far left hates to admit it, guns save lives.

Don’t take our word for it, though, look at the government’s own stats – which clearly reveal more guns = less crime.

Well yeah, we knew that as soon as City Council passed it.

Were you carrying that day? No contention, just curious. I would think your right to self preservation would nullify that law.

That didn’t require a law degree to figure out. I wonder if anyone was arrested under this ordinance or if the officers were smart enough to ignore it.

I would have hoped the police officers and judges honored their oath to protect the constitution against this corrupt city council’s code.

You don’t follow the news about CPD and the city courts do you? Things are better under the new chief but they still have a lot of the bad apples that the former chiefs brought in.

Since when do people in power worry about laws or the Constitution? The ends justify the means these days, lawful or most often not.

Isn’t there also a law that makes the ban a “criminal offense”? Of course there is. I’ve read it and used it many times to shut down rogues.

To be fair, the City of Columbia was just following the living constitution model where you just do whatever you want and hope 5 justices agree that the words in the constitution have no meaning on that subject.

Unfortunately for you the Constitution gives the Supreme Court the power. I know it sucks they ruled against you repeatedly just recently, but fear not, they’ll hand more power over to corporations in the future and get back in the good graces of the GOP.

I’m smart enough to actually read the constitution rather than feign support of it with a fictitious version of it made up in my head.

Yeah bruh, the Constitution created gay marriage. Read it REALLY close and you’ll see it.

JayJay July 22, 2015 at 9:43 am

To be fair the Columbia city council members screwed over the constitutional rights of those citizens, both black and white, at the state house Saturday to carry long guns and concealed sidearms.

People who need guns to ‘protect’ themselves and live a life in fear, are big gaping pussies.

Those who don’t have a gun to defend themselves are victims. Not only are they victims of the criminal. They are victims of their own cowardice.

How about victims of their own stupidity.

Only in cases where the gun was taken away from the owner by the robber and then used to kill the owner. Oh, wait. I guess I could have just said, yes.

Oh, well in that case I guess it is ok. We don’t have many of those and they deserve to die, along with the people they accidently kill.

What is your point? Of course when you put a bunch of white supremacists carrying Confederate flags and a bunch black people in the same place at the same time you are going to have violence. I would have been shocked if there was no violence.

Only in NRA dominated Republican world should we be required to allow two groups of people who vehemently hate each other to assemble in the same place with guns.
I think you guys wanted a blood bath. You are sick! Its obvious you wanted to fulfill Dylan Roof’s fantasy of sacrificing himself to start a race war. Maybe this state is more backwoods redneck than even I believed.
And we wonder why corporate executives don’t want to move their families here.

Reply

Exactly, and if some innocent bystander or someone driving down the street had been killed in the crossfire, the NRA would have answered, It was her fault, she should have had a gun.

I suspect the “Constitutional Expert” is the same lawyer who tried to convince the Supreme Court that “Public Water and Sewer Fees” means the same thing as “Mayor T-Bone’s Personal slush fund and whore lawyer pay check fund.”
