Here’s another example of what we’re talking about …
According to the latest data from the Annie E. Casey foundation, 22 percent of American children lived below the poverty line in 2013 – up from 18 percent in 2008. Numerically, that equates to 18.7 million children – up from 17 million in 2008.
That’s right: There are 1.7 million more children living in poverty today than during the brunt of the Great Recession. Oh, and more than a quarter of those children – 27 percent – are six years of age or younger.
Meaning poverty is all they’ve ever known … and all they’ll ever know (barring a radical reorientation of our nation’s governing philosophy).
For those of you keeping score at home, the poverty line that year for a family of four (two adults and two kids) was $23,624.
Among blacks, 39 percent of children belonged to families living below this threshold – the highest rate of any ethnicity. White children lived in poverty at a 14 percent clip.

They keep telling us it is so it must be true!
Funny how this is all Obama’s fault. A few issues:
1. The latest year analyzed in this survey was 2013. It’s pretty clear the economy’s gotten better since then (though we’re definitely not where we should be).
2. It’s also amazing how the states in that lowest bracket stretch across the South. There are clearly some states doing stuff right (Minnesota, New Hampshire, Iowa, etc.), while those on the Southern tier seem to be doing it all wrong.
3. In fact, if you look at the report and the maps included, you’ll find that theme in just about all of them. What’s the difference? Is it simply percentage of minority population, or is it something to do with the leadership of that state?
Bottom line is that while Obama bears some responsibility, laying such a thing entirely at his feet is silly, even if unsurprising. Just once, I’d love to see somebody from either side come up with a plan of action instead of focusing on criticizing whomever happens to be in charge.

Apparently not nearly as tough as getting some to embrace that sentiment. Furthermore, I am superior to no one. I’m a 44 year old who was placed up for adoption as in infant in Virginia back in 1971, was adopted by a couple who were not really suited for each other. They divorced in 1980 and my mother moved us 800 miles away to North Carolina where she struggled for years, without the support of her ex husband, to provide for my adopted brother and I. Feeding us food at times that she had to charge on gas station credit cards. As I watched her cry over her checkbook at times, I learned that hard work and determination are sometimes not enough, but they are mandatory if you ever want to get ahead.

I thought libertarians didn’t believe poverty was a government concern, and that government was powerless to do anything about it.
People know libertarians are in favor of free markets, yet somehow they get billed as not caring about the poor. But free markets are very good for the poor. Free markets means jobs are more available. Free markets make both the luxuries and the necessities of life more affordable. Entrepreneurial opportunities are easier to take advantage of in a free market environment. Public schools do not often equip the poor with the skills needed to end the poverty cycle. Petty traffic violations are a nuisance for the rich, but are extremely stressful for the poor. Free markets also provide for those in need faster and more efficiently than asking the government for help. I could go on and on.
I became a liberal democrat because of the poverty issue. Then I became a libertarian because of the poverty issue. Government creates and perpetuates poverty, despite the good intentions of those who wish to redistribute the wealth.
So, I hit the nail on the head, then.
Libertarians don’t like to pool resources to combat poverty as a government priority, they discard the economy of scale, and leave it to the private sector to allocate the needed resources in a helter-skelter, profit-competitive environment… where money goes entirely to the administration, and aggressive, non-transparent marketing of the sham.
I’m sorry you’re hopelessly ignorant of economics. If you’re interested in learning, I can help direct you to some valuable resources. You’d have to leave your libertarian hate at the door, though.

I’m sure I can get a libertarian education as easily as any other untested market theory that hawks itself as “economics,” but the plain fact is – libertarians don’t see government as a tool for civilization to provide solutions for poverty.
Saying I’m ignorant of how clever and self-realized this approach is, just dodges the issue, and offloads it to the propaganda machine.

The law of spontaneous order… Shit happens, and it’s good – or as good as it gets. Trying to tinker with the spontaneous order of nature leads to fucking it up. Not doing anything is preferable to tinkering. The libertarian order will “just happen” – in the same way communism was supposed to “just happen.” Communism didn’t work, because they tinkered with nature by trying to “jump start” the spontaneous order with a flawed concept of “the natural harmony of interests.” Jump starting doesn’t work.
The law of dog eat dog… when the big dogs are all full, there is peace. In a free market, sharks eat fish, because fish are edible, not because they hate them. This will magically take place without violence or guns, once fish realize they aren’t sharks.
The law of stupid people are subsistence laborers, and smart people are rich. The genetic superiority of the population cannot be denied, and when that difficult reality is understood by the stupid people, they will voluntarily accept their place at the bottom – which is there, by the way, for a reason. Labor has the power to make stupid people happy, and the smart people even happier.
So… if you’re smart, and want to be free of the stupid people, be a libertarian… be first in line when the spontaneous order snaps in. When confronted with political questions, always respond with “less government, free market, individual rights,” and you will be smarter than the rest of the sheep, dumb following dumber. You are destined for a gated community in the new order – and you don’t have to clean up your room, or go to school. Your job will be being smart, letting the stupid people do the work, and not having to pay taxes.
Not only is comparing libertarianism to a religion a tired approach, you’ve been beaten to the punch. Do an image search for “statism religion” and you’ll see what I mean.
You rambled unintelligibly about smart and stupid people. One of the most common characteristic of liberals is they believe they’re smarter than everyone else. Intelligence comes in many different forms, and it’s more dynamic than we think. Stupid people can become smart, and smart people can become stupid. And by the way, “stupid” people get rich all the time. Look at the average celebrity or sports star. Hell, look at the 43rd president.
Your analogy of the free market consisting of sharks and fish was atrocious, if not to say dehumanizing. A market is made up of people who want things. (If they didn’t want anything, then they wouldn’t be in the market). And the easiest way for someone to get what they want is to provide something that someone else wants. When this happens once, it’s a mutually beneficial exchange- no harm, no foul. When it happens many times, it’s called an economy.
It’s a basic economic truth that government does not add to the economy. They add zero value! That point cannot be emphasized enough. They take (with the threat of violence) the profits of the existing economy, then attempts to return some of what they took, all the while boasting what a great job they’re doing. But we (should, by now) know they’re all clueless and/or lying, regardless of what letter they put next to their names on the ballots.
It was once common knowledge that government is “a necessary evil at best, and intolerable one at worst”. Now the prevailing narrative is that government is good, and more government is progressive.
And that’s what your posts comes down to: narrative. You provide few if any facts, but you provide tons of story telling. And story telling is precisely why religions have any power and influence at all. I hope that’s something we can agree on.

From what I have seen at this website over the years, Libertarian is so ideologically rigid, almost infinitely more so than Democratic and, even, Republican platforms, that it appears to be a religion to some folks.
That’s why I always try to give it a capital ‘L’.
At least libertarians have an ideology. R’s and D’s have one and only one ideology: get elected. Everything they say or do is calculated for that purpose. Any semblance of philosophy or principles is just theatrics and public relations.
I believe – I know – our Constitution was born of compromise and pragmatism and that is the example that our politicians should follow.

Actually, up until the so called “Great Society” welfare trap was sprung, charities collected and distributed funds and resources to the poor. That didn’t sit well with the Big Government, Socialists/Communist types as they felt that gave religion too much power over the poor. They were able to destroy the traditional family unit (anti communist) and grab power from the churches all in one fell swoop, subjugating the poor, requiring them to hit the feeder bar in the voting booth for their very survival. We all see what has happened since.

Because the democratic party did an effective job of shifting blame for his failed policies. They got a great turn out from their base that voted for a black candidate along racial lines. There was some dissatisfaction with Bush. The media was a black President. The media wanted a democratic President. Why did the daily death totals from Iraq and Afghanistan stop when Obama was elected? Why did the media quit pointing out how high gas prices were on a daily basis after Obama was elected? The republicans failed to offer a candidate that fired up their base. That is why a lot of republicans aren’t upset by Trump’s comments. That is why Obama got elected.
I blame Bush.

The Europeans are more worried about Russia then ever and are actively looking for alternatives to Russian oil. All of this cost us nothing. Putin has paid a significant political price for this adventure. There are a lot of angry Oligarchs in Russia. If oil prices do not come up soon Russia will be bankrupt.

I hope everyone is aware that the Annie E. Casey Foundation is the source of the social work theory and practice that sends abused and neglected children back home to their families as soon as possible so that they can he raped and beaten some more and, sometimes, killed.
