RE: “DONALD TRUMP: JOHN McCAIN IS A LOSER“
Dear Editor,
Donald Trump is right about John McCain. I served with the Marines in Vietnam 1967-68 during the Tet Offensive. McCain has forgotten us who actually served “in country” on the ground. He and Senator Lindsey are war mongers trying to create more casualties instead of serving those who have suffered. McCain is no hero, he was unlucky and never engaged the enemy on the ground. The heroes are listed on the Wall in Washington. McCain doesn’t care about veterans, he cares about the personal profit he will gain from starting wars. Hypocrite!!
I respect Trump for the guts to speak the truth.

P.S. – You can run this but I prefer to remain anonymous, I don’t want my (Veterans Affairs) status affected – I don’t trust them. The war mongers won’t fund the VA hospitals but they have plenty of money for war-it’s the same budget!

Anon: Agree with you 100 percent. Thanks for your service – and for sharing. And you are absolutely right not to trust them.

Truth is, it takes more courage to go up against the US media and the entrenched Democrat Party mindset, than any bravery McCain displayed.
Not only that: some veterans, like John Kerry, think they are immune from being called out for their hatred of America, and the damage they do, because they were in the military. Lee Harvey Oswald was a veteran, so was Hitler. A lot of ex-service personnel have been VERY bad for their country.
Although Oswald was more aligned with the Communist (the new Democrats) and that only supports the contention of how dangerous Democrats and vets can be, if not very well educated about reason America exists.
are you fucking kidding me?
Years ago this guy named Don screwed me out of some money. Using the same logic; people named Don are bad people.
Yeah, but not as bad as you!!!!
Hitler never married a beer heiress.
+1 for McCain
A beer heiress with family ties to the mob.
Okay so now you aren’t a “hero” if you didn’t engage the enemy in close contact on the ground?
So I guess Richard Bong isn’t a hero? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Bong
Nor is Thomas McGuire? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_McGuire
Or David McCampbell? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_McCampbell
Or Greg “Pappy” Boyington? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pappy_Boyington
Or Joe Foss? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Foss
How about Robert K Morgan and the thousands of bomber crews that flew in mass formations in daylight to wipe out Hitler’s war machine – were they not heros? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_K._Morgan
Will, say out of the “military hero” business – you and anonymous don’t have a fucking clue as to what you’re talking about.
How about my late father who captained a quad-40 on a Fletcher class off Japan. It saddens me to learn my father is now considered a disgrace by the right.
Trump isn’t even a RINO republican and he’d hardly be considered “on the right” by any serious student of politics. He’s getting press because it fits the liberal media agenda.
So I don’t need to go get Dad’s ashes out of the National Cemetery he resides in? Cool.
No, but you do need to drive by there this weekend and put a flag on his niche, maybe pour a little of his favorite adult beverage over the marker and thank God in Heaven that men such as this lived and died on our behalf.
Flag yes. If I poured good gin, brandy or scotch on it he’d come back from the dead and kick my ass for being wasteful. They weren’t the greatest generation for nothing. Funny thing about them – despite all they went through in the war, despite all the hardships, the nightmares our mothers had to deal with – they never asked for anything. I wonder if Mr. Trump can say that?
And Trump continues to surge in the polls like never seen before.
If he was captured then he failed and is not a hero. If he survived he was lucky, that’s all just lucky. A hero is someone that does something extraordinary above and beyond their expectations. Survival is not heroic.
Excellent posts, Sir! McCain was shot down. That happened to people taking the war to the north. He became a hero when he withstood 5 years in a POW camp. He did so with honor and suffers to this day for it. I don’t agree with him politically much, but you have to say he is a hero.
McCain still is no hero.
All depends on how you define heroic. Merely surviving for McCain required heroic effort on his part. Was he Alvin York or Audie Murphy? No, they both managed to kill a lot of enemies while managing to keep themselves and their subordinates from getting killed, exposing themselves to danger time after time. Ultimately, Murphy would suffer tremendously from PTSD and wind up addicted to sedatives. Showing his true strength and larger than life heroic nature he even managed to kick that addiction on his own.
I know we should ignore blatantly, deeply, and obviously stupid comments like this silly anonymous letter to our resident military service expert, Will, but I just can’t.
You already nailed the idiocy of the aviators-aren’t-warriors-because-their-boots-aren’t-muddy nonsense, so I would only add that idiots like the mouth-breathing Occupy Wall Street meets “Born on the Fourth of July” letter writer who engage in the “my service was cooler than your service” bullshit can’t be taken seriously.
How many times did I want to hug some helo pilot who had hung around long enough for all of us to get onboard and get the hell out of Dodge (even though his op rules allowed him to take off as soon as the airframe was in danger), or marvel at the A-10 guys who would loiter for us even after they were bingo ammo, low-passing Tali’s (and being thanked with a good dose of ground fire and flak as thanks) and generally scaring the shit out of the jackasses so we could either split or wait for help.
Hate on McCain’s politics and spout the rabid death-to-Neocons silliness all you like, but don’t use histrionic nonsense like this to do it. It only demonstrates that you’re weak minded. Stick to the politics…

You can make the case that survival in and of itself was heroic for McCain. Very few (probably none) POWs managed to survive without telling the North Vietnamese something of potential value.
Absolutely. If nothing else, turning down an early release from a Hell like that takes balls like church bells. I would like to say I would have done the same thing, but none of us knows what we would do in a situation like that until the situation is upon us. However, we know what McCain did.
Hero is used to broadly anymore. McCain is not one. He was doing what he enlisted to do. Now a real hero is someone like Audie Murphy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audie_Murphy …. But I guess one can simply continue on stating McCain was a war hero for giving the enemy all kinds of secret information, which has been reported by other POWs from the same camp McCain was held in. Advancing to the future now: He is a traitor to the American people – a sell out – a fake – a god damn two faced psychopath like that fucked up sack of evil shit Lindsey Grahamnesty. And btw, Colonels come a dime a dozen. Many suck. How do I know this? Ever heard of the Pentagon? Yeah. Go figure.
While I’m worked up lets look at the facts about McCain (who I can’t stand) and Trump (who I detest).
While Trump was skating his way through Fordham, Penn State and Wharton, Trump was walking tours at Annapolis.
While Trump was whoring his way through the upper east side, McCain was a light bomber pilot flying a piece of obsolete crap against a well trained and equipped North Vietnamese Air Force and Army air defense system.
While Trump was ripping off tenants in Brooklyn, McCain was a POW in the Hanoi Hilton and refusing to admit he was the son of an admiral. When the Courts called Trump on the carpet – he admitted to ripping off minorities. When the NVA found out McCain was the son of an admiral they offered him an early release – he refused.
Yeah – Trump is an expert on hero’s and McCain, as bad politically as he is, is only a hero – “because he got shot down”.

I trained on Phantom F4C fighters in 1968-72.
Every person who flew those rotten planes is a hero.
To go into combat with a giant torch out the behind of one of those worthless planes.
Into the greatest anti-aircraft zone in history took guts on top of guts.
The planes could not match MIG 21s or 25s. Some did not even have guns, the ones that did wouldn’t fire in a stall dive firing mode. Half the air to air missiles were duds.
If you got caught the locals would cut you to pieces.
The Air Force took away our 45s and gave us 38 pistols with only worthless ammo that was legal under the UN regulations for war.
To me, every person who fought in that rotten, lousy, worthless, war is a brave American Hero. And, especially, the crews of Air Force, Navy, Marine, and Army pilots who shot it out against massive numbers of MIG 15s, 19s, 21s, and 25s. In air to air combat in the skies and hand to hand combat when they were shot down. So many of which died, that the actual loses are still kept secret.
One aircraft carrier support ship in dock in 1970 reported every plane shot down, or shot up. Sailors even bought free drinks for pilots and warned that trainees had signed up for a suicide missions. By, flying the Phantom’s into North Vietnam.
God thank those men who did their duty for a thankless US population during the Vietnam War.
McCain flew an A-4, an even bigger piece of crap designed half a decade earlier.
Affectionally known as: The Flying Coffin!
I spent five years as an infantry officer – when the “merde frappe le ventilateur” I can dig my hole deeper, call in an airstrike, run away or chose to just die where I stand. I can’t imagine the large testículos it takes to fly into a fight.
The Koch brothers have turned on Trump. They are using their various political machines to bash him. Local Represenative of the concerned veterans of America have tweeted against Trump. Daniel Brennan is the openly gay man in charge of the concerned veterans of America. He has not military history and is idea to attack Trump.
I have been told he is in charge of organizing gay and lesbian responses to Trump.
Should be interesting to see the Koch Brothers and Trump square off against each other’s. Even more interesting is to see if the Koch brothers, through Brennan, can co-op the gay, lesbian and transgendered vote for their causes.
It is disgusting to hear that the Koch brothers and concerned veterans for America are using a gay employee to get his gay, lesbian and transgendered friends to protest trump.
Does this mean we might see Katylin Jenner in SC soon?
The Kochs are determined to buy this election. Trump is too rich for them to buy, so they are going after him. They want Walker or Cruz. They already own them. .
Okay, who has the patience and time to go back to 2008 to see how much our friends on the left loved McCain? This righteous indignation displayed NOW is sickening. Just how unhinged has Trump made the Left? One of you were even quoting Karl Effing Rove!
Speaking of unhinged, how would the right be reacting right now if Hilary Clinton made the exact same comments about McCain’s military service?
I can see that Mama, but don’t tell me you somehow just found love for McCain and Rove. Trump stepped in it for sure but the greater point is McCain sucks and has not gave a crap about Vets. Trumps response was “inartful”. BTW Hillary hasn’t made it in the business world or served in the military so that would not be a good analogy.
No love at all for him as a politician, but I would never in a million years attack his military service. Never.
Maybe you should research it then. His story about the flattop doesn’t hold up to common sense. Other reports say he acted with cowardice. He was a subpar pilot that got good reviews and promotions. His father and grandfather were Admirals. There is no doubt that his captors knew who his father was. There are conflicting reports on whether or not he conspired with the enemy or received preferential treatment. He sold out his constituents as part of the Keating 5.Was it the first time he sold people out for his own gain? it wasn’t the last. Take my word for none of this. Research it for yourself. Read official accounts from the perspective that he was an Admiral’s son.
Its not the left. Its the Republican Establishment. They want to kill Trump before the debates. Trump is receiving treatment usually reserved by the Republicans for Obama.
All in all, at the end of the day McCain is still no real Hero. Whether you were there or not. No Hero. He sold us all out. Heroes don’t do that.
Well Donald Trump is a 1 percenter, and we all know they are responsible for all the job creation in this country. So cut him some slack.
I don’t usually cross a candidate off the list this early. Trump’s statement about captured veterans is akin to Kerry’s testimony before the Senate in April 1971, I have no respect for either.
Please, please, please….I want everyone on this site to vote for Trump in the primary!! Tell your friends, organize, facebook it, twitter it…let’s make sure he gets the GOP nomination!!!
And fortunately we have open primaries. DEMS for The DONALD (temporarily)
I love seeing such deep divisions this early in the GOPer clown competition.
Anything that keeps Haley off the national stage is a net positive in my book.
Come on.Trump is a joke and will be out of the running, soon.McCain endured absolute hell.Trying to dismiss that is disrespectful idiocy…no matter your politics
He was the one who brought the “wack bird” “crazies” into the spotlight.
BOOM!! …………… Trump surges in the polls AGAIN! And all he does is speak the truth. Bunch of disgruntled losers on this threat. But then they are just a bunch of grumpy old geezers who are not happy unless they are bitching about something.
If the person you are shooting at shoots you, aren’t you a little bit at fault?
When I call GOPers morons, imbeciles, lunatics, crooks, cheats, liars, criminals, fascists and stinking piles of putrid pigshit, it’s just my (perhaps clumsy) way of expressing fondness and affection…
