S.C. HOUSE LEADERS WANT CONGRESSMAN TO CLEAN UP CORRUPT JUDICIAL BRANCH

|| By FITSNEWS || It’s no secret U.S. Rep. Trey Gowdy doesn’t like being a congressman.  In fact South Carolina’s fourth district representative has been plotting his exit from Washington, D.C. almost from the moment he got there.

Even a high profile role in the investigation of presumed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton‘s Benghazi scandal isn’t enough to hold Gowdy’s interest, apparently.

So … what does the former prosecutor want?

To be a judge … specifically a federal one.

“Republican” leaders in the S.C. House of Representatives may have a state job for the 50-year-old Greenville, S.C. native to consider in the meantime, though.

The position?  Chief justice of the S.C. Supreme Court.

Multiple GOP leaders in the House tell us Gowdy is being eyed for this powerful post as part of a massive judicial reform effort – one seeking to address recent nepotism scandals and other shady dealings in the state’s notoriously corrupt judicial branch.

FITS challenged South Carolina lawmakers to address judicial corruption last fall.

“Members of the S.C. General Assembly have proven incapable of ethically handling judicial appointments – while the corrupt judicial branch they’ve created has proven incapable of ethically handling our legal system,” we wrote at the time.

That’s for damn sure …

They failed to do so, though.  And the judiciary got even more corrupt.

Retiring liberal S.C. chief justice Jean Toal – whose 15-year reign of terror ends next month – will be replaced by longtime associate justice Costa Pleicones.  However Pleicones will serve for only one year due to his scheduled retirement.

Another liberal justice – Donald Beatty – is in line to become the next chief, however his flirtation with a spot on the federal bench has lawmakers leery of nominating him.  Lawmakers are also hoping to nominate an “outsider” to the top spot – someone who can clean up a judicial branch run by Toal as an effective dictatorship for the last decade-and-a-half.

That’s smart …

The discharging of even-handed justice is a core function of government – meaning the state’s judicial branch should be funded, structured and administered appropriately.  In fact we’ve gone so far as to support pay increases for Palmetto state judges (something we almost never do) because we believe they are among the few taxpayer-funded employees doing a vitally necessary job.

Well, when they do their job (which isn’t always).

But here’s the thing: Lawmakers can’t just bring in a fresh face, impose a few new ethical standards and call it a day.  They must also surrender their appointment authority and their power over choosing judicial candidates – a.k.a. the real roots of corruption.

Anything short of that isn’t real judicial reform …

The man has proven in a committee hearing that he does not understand how the 5th Amendment is supposed to work and people think he should be a judge?

Reply
Speak D Truth July 18, 2015 at 12:04 pm

He was applying the Rules of Court to a Congressional Hearing. The problem had nothing to do with his understanding of the Rules of Court but rather with their applicability to a Congressional Hearing. Congress should change the rules for a Congressional Hearing to make them more in line with the Rules of Court.
Furthermore, Lerner’s actions clearly show that she has evidence of corruption that she wishes to hide from Congress and the American public. That proves that corruption in the Obama Administration is a fact and not a myth.

Looked and sounded like a nice professional way of saying “fuck off” to me………………
And did not Gowdy whine and pout and issue threats like some spoiled little girl that doesn’t get what she wants?
Lerner ain’t intimidated by him and that’s what pisses him off the most.

Daniel Boome July 18, 2015 at 8:13 pm

If Lerner is able to keep from having to tell the truth about what she knew (as she did), why would she be intimidated? She would only need to be intimidated if she had to testify. It’s easy to be not intimidated when you aren’t going to be compelled to answer questions. Gowdy’s frustration was simply that she was allowed to give a statement at the beginning of the hearing, but then invoked the fifth when cross examined. To Gowdy’s point, why should she be able to give a statement (giving a meely mouthed “I didn’t do nothing”) and then assert her right to silence. Either assert the fifth or don’t, but you can’t have it both ways. That’s what “pissed him off” and with good reason, especially when he knew the democrats were going to do anything to take her side. You only see it as a hissy fit if you are a democrat who doesn’t want the truth to come out.

nitrat July 19, 2015 at 8:51 am

“Either assert the fifth or don’t, but you can’t have it both ways. ”
Well, no, not really.
To say that any American does not have the right to make a statement asserting their innocence before a grandstanding congressman or prosecutor asks them a question that may be used against them is so antithetical to the concept of American justice, it should be beyond partisan craziness.
If Trey Gowdy and the ignorant SC judges – if we had 3 strikes and off the bench on judges whose cases were overturned on appeal due to lack of understanding of the law, we would have a whole new team of judges in this state every 3 or 4 years – he has appeared before refused to allow people to plead the 5th if they had already spoken to the court, they abridged those people’s rights.
You don’t know you need to plead the 5th until a question has been asked.

sparklecity July 19, 2015 at 11:23 am

As a proud independent and NOT a Democrat, I say Gowdy threw a hissy fit because Lerner DID have it both ways (thus the symbolic “finger and “fuck off”) and there wasn’t a damn thing that Gowdy could do about it.
Then again trial lawyers like Gowdy are very good at theatrics.
As an avowed conservative you will only see things through a biased eye same as liberals will take a biased eye as well.
As far as I’m concerned, the hard right AND the hard left are equally biased and have their collective heads up their collective asses.

Daniel Boome July 19, 2015 at 11:49 am

Ok, but in this case you see the government (which is what Lerner was and who she represented) taking the fifth as a good thing. I find that incredible no matter who you are and a sad commentary on where we are at. You can say Gowdy was merely about the theatrics, and maybe he was, but I tend to think a hearing regarding government accountability should have answers and not silence. From that standpoint, Gowdy only had a natural response. Lerner giving a vague statement and refusing to be questioned on it is nothing more than a small symbol of government tyranny where the people are shut out.

sparklecity July 20, 2015 at 10:01 am

Taking the fifth usually telegraphs something ain’t kosher.
The only thing (and I mean ONLY thing) I admire about Ms. Lerner is that she sees and knows Gowdy for what he really is – a damn fine prosecuter who is good at theater (as most trial lawyers are) who got dissed because she wasn’t going to play his game and told him figuratively to fuck off where upon Gowdy had a hissy. She knew how to get his goat and did a fine job of doing so.
I love it when dudes like Gowdy get knocked off their horse from time to time because they need to.
The problem with hard core conservatives (which you appear to be) is they see things the way they think things OUGHT to be (to kinda quote your boy Rush Limpballs) or wish they WERE and not the way they ARE and proceed to get pissed off about it and obsess over every little fucking thing.
Get over this government tyranny thing under ever damn rock or behind every tree. That shit was played years ago and is stale as old bread.

Mike July 20, 2015 at 3:54 pm

It would be good to get Gowdy in, in SC, then when we get the White House, in some way we can take out Ginsburg, Sotomayor, Kagan, Breyer and the like from the SCOTUS.

We all need to pray that when we get the presidency, w/ the US House and Senate, some of the very, very bad judges are taken out of the way. By being passive, and backing down to corrupt liberals, our courts have become filthy and un-American with evil, immoral men and women. The price has been excrutiating.

I’d love to see jurists like Gowdy, Judge Roy Moore, Alan Wilson and other CONSTITUTIONALIST-minded people, instead of blatant lawless activists like we have now. Hopefully God will be with our nation if we turn to him. And we can rid out legal system of so much of the scum polluting it.

Like FITS pointed out Gowdy really didn’t want to be a representative of the SC 4th Congressional District – he just did it to better himself because as I’ve posted numerous times, Gowdy is out for only one thing and that is Trey Gowdy.

Truly one of the most self-centered persons ever. He has absolutely no temperment for the judicial bench. Justice would never be blind in his court.

He runs for a seat in a legislative body that he’s not interested in purely as a stepping-stone, so he positions himself as a prosecuter congressman. Then he sucks up to SC senators hoping for their recommendation to a federal bench. That should tell you eberything about his opportunistic mindset. Lawyers and corporations are funding him in hopes he ends up on a bench so they can line up to appear in his courtroom.

Horrible, horrible person, in my opinion and experience.

TSA shouldn’t have to frisk 3 grandmothers to justify searching 3 young Muslim males. We need honest discussions about race, crime, immigration, personal responsibility, and many other issues. Then we need honest straightforward legislation that works toward solving those issues without currying favor to any one group. That need to happen not only in Congress but in the Courts as well.
