Jenny Horne: Grandpappy Told Me I Was Kin To Jefferson Davis

ERGO, IT MUST BE TRUE …

|| By FITSNEWS || S.C. Rep. Jenny Horne – who is looking to turn her emotional flip-flop on the Confederate flag into a seat in the U.S. Congress – told The (Charleston, S.C.) Post and Courier that her grandfather told her she was a descendent of Jefferson Davis.

But she never researched the claim … which is now drawing scrutiny from genealogists.

Unlike the mainstream media – which swallowed Horne’s claim hook, line and sinker –  we raised questions about it in our initial coverage of her dramatic floor speech.

Now it appears Horne flat-out lied … (well, her grandpappy did).

More relevant from our perspective, we were the first outlet to report on Horne’s eleventh hour flip-flop on the flag … a tearful, public rebuke of an amendment she endorsed (and spoke in favor of) hours earlier behind closed doors.

Frankly we think her naked opportunism will be more damaging in the long term than her dubious ancestral boasts.

Eager to stretch out her fifteen minutes of fame, Horne is rallying support for a campaign against another drama queen, crybaby/ flip-flopper – former S.C. governor Mark Sanford, who won special election two years ago for the Palmetto State’s first congressional district seat.

Who do we want to win this race?

At the moment we’re taking a page out of Montgomery Brewster’s book and supporting “None of the above.”

You don’t need to wait for your Grandpa, the Republican Party will happily do that anytime you want. In fact they have multiple pre-recorded lies, about how great life was before unions, environmental regulations, child labor laws, Social Security, Medicare, employment laws, OSHA, desegregated schools, etc. etc.
Ah for the good old days.

Well Jenny Goebbels Anderson Horne is a Republican so you might have a point, but first and formost she is the current minister of propaganda for the South Carolina legislature.

I think Joseph might be her 4th cousin or some such tall tale.

My Grand pappy told me that he had to walk five miles to school.
I found a recorded map. The district wasn’t wider than three miles at it’s greatest. I believe her Grandpa lied to her but she got to be pretty stupid to repeat that on national TV.

It’s not clear that her grandfather lied. He may have believed they were descended from Davis, when, in fact, they only shared common kin. That’s not unusual at all. Especially where famous personages are concerned. This is just something being used to to mock her, by ardent flag supporters.

I’m “kin” to the first man hanged for murder in Buncombe County, and a direct descendant from at least two who paid for their passage to America as indentured servants (still not the same as slavery).

Reply
The Buzzman July 15, 2015 at 9:37 pm

Not quite the same as slavery, I’d say. But there are strong paralels. There are records of massive numbers of indentured Irish servants being shipped to the colonies in chains. Also of them being whipped and raped by their masters, and in many cases killed — with no punishment for their deaths. In the North, especially, they were treated like cattle. Less than human. In the South, they fared much better. Not all became like the fictional O’Haras, but many did own plantations and did exceptionally well. My own European ancestors were mainly Scots-Irish, meaning Irish people living in Scotland. Most came to SC and NC by way of Virginia, especially Isle of Wight County.

Some were indentured servants in VA, who bought their own freedom and intermarried with English landed gentry, and in several cases, with American Indians. The latter was often the case, especially, with those who were “Indian traders”, military officers and treaty negotiating politicians land surveyors, and travelling ministers. Such marriages were called “country marriages” by the Europeans, and more than one in my direct lines was disinherited for it. Some of the Martins had 3 or four “country wives” in different locations, mainly along the rivers and the Indian trails, in addition to the “white” wife back home. In areas such as ours with “remnant” Native Americans still extant, there was then further admixture between and among them.

^^^^ Part of the true history of at least 80% of “old families” of Horry, Georgetown, Williamsburg, Marion, and Dillon Counties, which were here before the 19th Century. And virtually all of us are related, by blood, marriage, or both.

Very damned few pure “white” people down ‘roun’ heah, in other words.

Here’s a joke I hope is worthy of Shifty: A man meets a woman in a bar. The man says, “Would you sleep with me for a million dollars.”
The woman says,”For a million? Sure.. I guess.”
The man says, “How about a buck-twenty five?”
Woman: “What kind of woman do you think I am?”
Man: “We’ve already established that. Now, we’re just haggling.”

A kid comes home from school with a writing assignment. He asks his father for help. “Dad, can you tell me the difference between potential and reality?”

His father looks up, thoughtfully, and then says, “I’ll demonstrate. Go ask your mother if she would sleep with George Clooney for a million dollars. Then go ask your sister if she would sleep with Brad Pitt for a million dollars.
Then come back and tell me what you’ve learned.”

The kid is puzzled, but decides to ask his mother. “Mom, if someone gave you a million dollars, would you sleep with George Clooney?”

“Don’t tell your father, but yes, I would,” she replies.

He then goes to his sister’s room. “Sis, if someone gave you a million dollars, would you sleep with Brad Pitt?”

She replies, “Omigod! Definitely!”

The kid goes back to his father. “Dad, I think I’ve figured it out. Potentially, we are sitting on two million dollars, but in reality, we are
living with two sluts.”

If you truly want to run it through Ancestry, all you need is her name, age and location, which is all public record. It is simple to build a case from there. However, as I said on an earlier thread, the term “descendant” means different things to different people.

Does it even matter? Everyone got the chance to grandstand and in the end if history bothers to remember the event it will be that Pitts had all of his amendments, and he was a racist jackass, and that every single person in this state supported him because we are all racist jackasses who spent every waking moment dreaming of the glory days of lynching and having sex with our cousins (when in reality it really boiled down to 4 guys in House and 1 guy in Senate holding things up). Welcome to history. We are always on the losing side even when we try to do what’s right.

The same applies to your children, their children, and their children’s children. It will go on until the Republic’s history is deemed irrelevant.

Onward boys! We’ll ISIS Stone Mountain and name a few highways in GA and SC after Sherman to show those seditious terrorist scum who still don’t believe their rebellion is over! Quick, while the Republic still has breath!

Watching Jenny’s speech reminded me of the story about a guy who wanted to make an obscene phone call. He picks at random the name of a large company where he knows there are lots of women. A secretary answers the phone, and he starts his profane and lustful suggestions. The secretary is caught off guard and having asthma begins having an attack. After thirty seconds the guy pauses, and then asks her, “Hey, lady, did I call you or did you call me?”
