|| By FITSNEWS || Leland Summers – Commander of the South Carolina Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCSCV) – has scheduled a press conference for this week.
Summers will speak to reporters at 11:00 a.m. EDT on Thursday, June 25 on the north lawn of the S.C. State House – near the Confederate flag that’s plunged the Palmetto State into a national firestorm.
After making his statement to the press, Summers said his organization “will make no further statements until Monday, June 29.”
“We do this out of our respect for the victims, their families, and the congregation of Emmanuel AME Church,” Summers said, referring to the historic black church in Charleston, S.C. which was attacked last week by 21-year-old white supremacist Dylann Storm Roof.
Roof prominently displayed the Confederate flag and other white supremacist symbols on his website, and has stated he intended for his attack – which killed nine black parishioners – to set off a “race war.”
What will Summers say? We’ll be sure to let you know …

Here’s what he said two days ago: “There is absolutely no link between The Charleston Massacre and The Confederate Memorial Banner. Don’t try to create one.”
I’m sure he’ll espouse some sort of similar argument….despite the fact the killer racist had photo after photo after photo of himself with the confederate flag.
You are truly a fucking idiot.
how so?
Flag supporter? Sucks to be you, asshole.
No, ass wipe. I am not a flag supporter. I just despise partisan hacks that are intellectually weak and the congeniality deceptive.
show me a mobile home with a confederate flag run up a flagpole in the front yard and i’ll show you a racist living in it.
Clark, thank you for a moment of lucidity in this entire thread. Not many Southern Gentlemen left if this thread is any example. And yes, I agree, it is time for the flag to come down.
Oh it hurts being on the wrong side of history doesn’t it?
Go back in your trailor and listen to hannity…
….and the twit who designed the flag said, himself, that it represents white supremacy over the black race. But don’t let that deflect from the ‘heritage’ argument.
Which designer of which flag would that be? If you’re talking about Thompson and the “Stainless Banner” you’re right about one of the seven or eight different flags that the confederacy flew.
It was all a design for confusion. They figured the more flags they had, the less likely the Union army would shoot, unsure of who they were shooting at. Sherman and Grant fixed that by ordering their troops to just kill everyone.
He also was seen wearing a golds gym shirt in the photos.
Unfortunately we can’t get rid of bad taste…just the flag at this point.
Baby steps.
Guy looks scrawny as hell so he probably never actually went to the gym.
Golds Gym is pretty awful too.
We can only hope we as a society eventually recognize the need to ban it in the name of not discriminating against fat people.
He was also wearing shoes but I don’t hear a call for shoes. Or maybe it was the bowl haircut…
Ok, the flag is coming down and the end of racism is here. Now. I am marking the date.
Thanks for solving this problem. You made it look easy.
OK then, tell me about the ideology historically associated with his shoes. Why are you so proud to be so fucking stupid?
Bowl cuts are coming back.
TBG’ll put down some wampum that he caves.
Is this the guy who was throwing the fit on CNN or MSNBC today?
I looked at the draft which said $9958@mk3

Whatever these fools say, short of “We were wrong”, will be roundly mocked by the rest of society. As they should be…
He’s just a guy who likes to dress up and play war like a kid.
The best and most morally correct position he can take is to concurr with the flag’s move to the museum, and offer his organization as the means by which the move occurs. Save face, brother. Be smart here and gain accordingly.
Do you really see that happening? I see the opposite, a tantrum on the Capital steps, followed by a fund raising drive to keep the flag (which of course can’t happen) and a nice fat check to himself for 25% of the take. Hey, upstate money is good money.
The SCV gives much lip service to Honor. I know it’s a long shot. I belive in a man’s ability to elevate himself when given the opportunity, If he is indeed a Man
If the post I saw from the NC chapter of SCV re-posted to Facebook by one of my friends is any indication, I’m thinking they are going to capitulate on the flag. An offer of some sort of grand compromise that involves moving the memorial and flag off the grounds might be possible as well. Maybe back to Elmwood Cemetery where the monument stood originally or mayby to some property owned by the SCV.
Perhaps the State Commander of the SCV could call for the immediate removal of the flag. Only a Third World late comer would suggest July 4 in South Carolina as a proper day to move the flag. Is there anyone on her staff who can/will read an Effing history book!!!
Is there no Historian in South Carolina who will attach him/herself to this Governor during this flag crisis? She is one udder shy of becomming the proverbial Indian sacred cow in a Confederate china shop. If she can’t move it before the President gets here, explain to her that a Black Hood in place would be a culturally fitting and appropriate tribute to the dead. It would also Cover and Protect the Banner from further misappropriation and abuse!
And, it would fix the problem with her Executive Order… (sheesh… how easy is that…
Here’s some coverage from Fox upstate – with my color added: (and yes, he really did wear the Fog Horn Leg Horn suit)
COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) –
Officials with the SC Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans held a news conference Thursday at the base of the Confederate memorial in Columbia, where the Confederate flag still flies outside the SC Statehouse.
Leland Summers, commander of the organization, dressed as Col. Saunders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame, in a white suit and sporting a graying Plantation style chin beard, said the confessed shooter in the Emanual AME Church massacre may have succeeded in starting a race war. (Commander is an honorary and mostly laughable title, as the organization does not have an active military which would award a military rank)
“That flag did not start a race war,” said Summers. “That idiot pulling a trigger on nine innocent people started a race war. Don’t try to convince me otherwise, because that dog won’t hunt.” Visibly offended, was Summers’ beagle, Jethro, who clearly felt he was up for a hunt, and eager to chase pigeons and squirrels which were lingering nearby eating left-over McDonald hasbrowns.
Summers said the efforts to bring down the flag were “supporting and creating cultural genocide.” He likened the coming holocaust to a Sunday pot luck dinner complete with ham, corn pudding and chocolate cake.
“It’s not a flag that makes people hate each other,” Summers said, addressing the eight or nine people attending his press event, “but how we decide in our own hearts how we will treat each other.” Noting that the flag was placed upon the Capital in 1962 as a symbol of protest to the efforts by African Americans to be afforded their civil rights under the Constitution of the United States, Summers’ simply said – “who dat.”
We talked with may along the sidewalk during the event if they were there in support of the SCV. Michael Hunting responded by asking if SCV was in fact a new pharmacy opening along Gervais. Others questioned simply continued to walk by, obviously busy seeking lunch.
Just read Summer’s comments in The State, thereby relegating the SCSCV (all 20 of them who stood with him) to the dust bin of history. I am an educated man. He does Not speak for me.
Fine. Leave it in place. Hood it in black for the duration of the proceedings. Honors the dead, respects the President, saves the flag any further desecration. God and History will judge us.
Pussies.
A bill to raze or remove all confederate graves and monuments in SC is next.
Has anyone interviewed state rep Bill Chumley on this? He’s a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and a “nay” vote on the vote to debate flag removal/relocation.
Our Confederate Ancestors would be astouneded and embarrassed by the Intellectual Poverty evidenced by this Clown’s remarks. Just Sound and Fury. He said absolutely nothing reasonable, coherent, or revelant to the flag issue as it stands today. This is what happens when public education fails to teach critical thinking skills. A genuine Slave to racist ideology.
commander?
