MAJORITY OF PALMETTO STATE RESIDENTS WANT BANNER TO COME DOWN
|| By FITSNEWS || A majority of South Carolinians – 54 percent – want the Confederate flag to be removed from the grounds of the S.C. State House. Meanwhile 35 percent want the controversial banner to stay where it is.
That’s according to a new poll from Crantford Research conducted in the aftermath of S.C. governor Nikki Haley‘s recent about-face on the flag – motivated by last week’s horrific, racially motivated church shooting in Charleston, S.C.
The Crantford data – first published by The (Columbia, S.C.) Free Times – comes as state lawmakers have agreed to address the issue during an extended legislative session. The flag’s removal is not a done deal, although there appears to be momentum in both the S.C. House and State Senate to take the banner down.

Among whites, 45 percent want the flag to come down and 42 percent don’t. Seventy-three percent of African-Americans want the flag taken down. More women (58 percent) than men (48 percent) want the flag to come down.
Crantford Research conducted two polls, the first on June 22 and the second on June 23, both dealing with separate issues concerning the Confederate flag. The first poll included 644 registered South Carolina voters and has a margin of error +/- 3.8 percent; the second poll included 517 registered voters and has a margin of error +/- 4.3 percent.
Last fall 61 percent of South Carolinians – including 73 percent of white South Carolinians – supported keeping the flag on the State House grounds, according to data from Winthrop University.
Prior to the Charleston tragedy, this website was indifferent to the flag.
“State leaders can leave it, move it, burn it or use it as a bath towel for all we care,” we wrote back in 2011.
But things change … and as we noted in our original column calling for the banner to come down, our indifference is no longer acceptable given the extent to which the flag’s racist roots are being exploited by those wishing to deprive black Americans of their most fundamental liberty: The right to a beating heart.
Lawmakers are doing exactly what we urged them to do regarding the flag.
We hope they keep it up no matter what the polls say …

Put to vote in SC elections. Polls are too easy to skew and the on-line ones are very easy to manipulate.
No, let the Legislature continue their work and remove it now. They have the information they need. We don’t need to wait until 2016 to remove the blemish. Do you vote on acne?

Haley is leading. That reflects some of the change in the polls.
Haley is following the instructions of her Corporate and RNC bosses. Reince Preibus, Boeing, BMW, and Volvo. Nothing more. She deserves no credit for flip flopping when big guns put her feet to the fire. Its all politics as usual. What she and the entire Republican leadership should be hung out to dry for is not giving a crap about the feelings of the black citizens of this state, until they had 9 dead people on their hands. Now they want to take credit for brining the flag down. I call BS. The people who brought the flag down are being buried in Charleston..

The most recent Senate elections are one, the re-election of Prime Minister Netanyahu another. I recall them time and again. Gov. Beasley sealed his fate with his move to remove the flag. Frankly, I don’t care one way or the other; but, Haley and her sycophants may live to regret reaping what they sow.
I have many friends, many of whom are black. One I love like a brother, there is no better person. Had a conversation yesterday with others, they told me they were tired of the controversy and wish the controversy would go away. We all agreed relations in the South were doing much better and Obama’s attempts at division, Sharpton all needed to keep quiet. We all agree, what happened in Charleston was horrible and the people of Charleston black and white had come together and showed the Nation how these things should be handled. The feelings would be the same, had it been a white Church.
Unlike the idiots, none of us blame the gun! If it had been taken into the Church and laid on a pew and left untouched, NO One would have been injured!
Who was responsible for passing the laws, which prevent someone’s mental illness from being shared, to help keep guns out of their hands? The liberals and Lawyers! Why can past convictions not be brought up in current court proceedings? liberals and Lawyers! How many crimes have been committed by illegals and who is responsible for not deporting them and releasing them back on the streets of America to create more misery and commit more crimes? There will always be controversy, but this one won’t go away until the flag is down.
Here’s a comment too nasty for Free Times Rant & Rave… So, there’s more to being Governor than winning the pageant. We have the first black President of the United States coming to South Carolina to eulogize a black State Senator, killed in his church along with eight others by an avowed white racest, local boy, one of us, one of Nikki’s constituents. She issues an executive Order to the effect that during these proceedings the Confederate Battle Flag will fly above the National Colors. I suspect her intention was to honor the dead. (Where was her legal counsel) Pay attention people. This fact is an insult to the President, to us, and to the Nation. If she cannot compell her colegues in the General Assembly to move that flag, her only option is to have it Hooded in Black on the pole where it stands.
What are you talking about? First, haley never issued an executive order regarding the confederate flag. Second, if you had actually ever been to the State House, you’d know that the confederate flag flies about 10 feet above the ground. Even when the US and SC flags were set at half staff, they flew well above it. So what, exactly, is the problem?

Then if you are so confident that the poll is correct, then why not the courage to put it on the ballot? I must remind you though, thanks to the new voter ID law, the dead can no longer vote.
